Background / History

Gu Yue arrived at East Sea Academy after missing the registration period. Wu Changkong offered her admission if she could satisfy him in a Soul Duel against Zhao Tao. Introducing herself as a level-15 wielder of the Elementalist Martial Soul, she fought Zhao Tao to a draw by displaying fire, wind, earth, water, light, and space powers. Wu Changkong accepted her into Class Five afterward. 17 18 19

Although she publicly maintained the identity of a gifted student, Gu Yue concealed the true extent of her Spiritual Power. Her displayed score of 333 already exceeded Zhao Tao's, yet her actual power—despite her injuries—was described as being close to the Divine Origin Realm. She deliberately restrained herself to remain at East Sea Academy and fulfill her bet with Na'er. 36

During the Spirit Ascension Platform training, Gu Yue chose strategic retreat when confronted with a Thousand Year Crystal Bear beyond her displayed level. After joining Zhao Tao, she helped defeat more than twenty Thousand Year Soul Beasts and advanced to level 19. 42 43

She committed to Zhao Tao's goal of developing Artificial Soul Spirits and resolved to work alongside him. She was already a disciple of Heavenly Phoenix Douluo Leng Yaozhu when she brought Zhao Tao to meet her master and helped facilitate his entry into the Spirit Pagoda. 50 106 107
