Background / History

Jieyin originated in the impoverished Western World, whose spiritual veins had largely been destroyed. Its lack of treasures and spiritual resources shaped his and Zhunti's fixation on obtaining opportunities and restoring the West. 72 76

He first drew widespread contempt at Hongjun's Purple Cloud Palace sermon. Arriving late with Zhunti and finding the six cushions occupied, he wept and begged for a place, then joined Zhunti in insulting Kunpeng and Dijun to create an opening. Jieyin ultimately occupied Kunpeng's former cushion, while Zhunti remained without one. 50 51 52 132

Seeking resources from Qin Yun, Jieyin and Zhunti approached the Witch Clan with an offer to construct a Mountain God Temple. After building one near the Witch Clan and offering incense, Jieyin received Origins of the Great Dao Laws of Space and Dreams, which directly matched his cultivated divine abilities. 76 87 88

Hongjun later accepted Jieyin and Zhunti as disciples after they pledged to revitalize the West. 166 However, after receiving Primordial Violet Qi, Jieyin grew increasingly dismissive of Qin Yun. He and Zhunti demanded a method to prove Dao and further Great Dao Origins, then attacked Qin Yun when rebuffed. Qin Yun's Hong Meng Measuring Ruler suppressed them, and Wuzhen gravely wounded both their bodies and Primordial Spirits with the God Slaying Spear. 233 234 235 236

Personality

Jieyin is calculating, opportunistic, and intensely conscious of resources and status. He repeatedly uses the West's barrenness to appeal for sympathy or justify his pursuit of benefits, from the Purple Cloud Palace cushions to Qin Yun's treasures. 51 76 88

Although he often shares Zhunti's greed and arrogance, Jieyin is usually the more cautious of the pair. After becoming a Saint, he advised restraint rather than immediately attacking Qin Yun, recognizing that their newly gained cultivation was insufficient. 270 271

His commitment to the Western World is nevertheless genuine. He accepted Hongjun's discipleship while promising to revive the West, co-founded the Western Teaching, and made vows binding his future cultivation to the West's restoration. 166 268 269

Founding the Western Teaching

After seeing other powers establish teachings and gain Merit, Jieyin and Zhunti reached the Sub-Saint realm and founded the Western Teaching in the West. Their doctrine promised that entrants would leave suffering, attain joy, and aid in repairing the West's spiritual veins and karma. 267 268

The Merit from the teaching initially seemed sufficient for only one Saint. Rather than choose between themselves, the brothers made forty-eight vows to the Heavenly Dao, gained additional Merit, and both became Saints. 269

Conflict with Qin Yun

After reaching Sainthood, Jieyin and Zhunti returned to Fangzhang Immortal Island under a courteous pretense, demanded access to the island, and attempted to break its protection formation. 271 272

Jieyin joined Zhunti in attacking Qin Yun at full power with Buddha Kingdom in Palm. Qin Yun combined their attacks and returned them against the two, exposing his Zenith Heaven Golden Immortal of the Origin cultivation and forcing their disgraced retreat. 275 276

They later attended Qin Yun's Dao Preaching Dharma Assembly in an attempt to seek peace and obtain benefits, but Qin Yun refused their gifts and they left in anger. 282 283 286

Public Penance and Great Dao Origin

Jieyin and Zhunti eventually returned to Fangzhang Immortal Island to apologize. The Twelve Ancestral Witches demanded that they kneel for ten thousand years; when the two tried to resist, the Witches and Qin Yun's avatar suppressed them and exposed the event by breaking their concealment of Heavenly Secrets. 385 386 387

After ten years of kneeling, they relinquished treasures as compensation. Despite the prior enmity, Qin Yun later gave them Great Dao Origin, enabling faster cultivation in seclusion. 390 392 393

Western Teaching Expansion

Jieyin and Zhunti supported the Demon Race's side of the Witch–Demon conflict, arguing that the conflict was needed to preserve the Primordial World's balance. They attempted to persuade Fuxi and Nuwa to support the Demon Race, but the two remained neutral. 332 333

Following Maitreya's ascension, Jieyin and Zhunti tried to convert Sect of Interception disciples by promising Western Teaching status, resources, cultivation in the Eight Treasures Merit Pool, and teachings from a Primordial Saint. The Sect of Interception rejected them. 452 453
