Okegis initially travels as Duanmu Huai's taciturn summoned creature and concealed final line of defense. Though she resembles a delicate maiden carrying a suitcase, she is identified as a mage and is held back unless Duanmu Huai considers intervention necessary 11 14 15.

Her early purpose includes observing humans, experiencing their emotions, and understanding souls. Encounters in Fallen Moon Forest lead her to question whether identity is defined by appearance or soul; Duanmu Huai explains that personality and inner self matter as much as an outward form 18 20. She continues seeking explanations for fear, cowardice, pride, grief, and other contradictory human behavior during their travels 36.

A series of puppet murders in the Holy City draws attention to her resemblance to the culprit: both are silver-haired Puppet Maidens.
