Background
Zhou Xuan transmigrated into the Chaos World and fell into a slumber lasting through tens and hundreds of millions of years. While he slept, his bound system automatically cultivated him by absorbing Primordial Chaos Origin and profound Laws; his body gradually spiritualized and became extraordinarily durable 1 4.
Upon awakening, he established the Lingxuan Dao Field and encountered Sun Wukong, whom he recognized as the central figure of the Journey to the West tribulation. Knowing that Wukong was being manipulated by Buddhism and other powers, Zhou Xuan accepted him as his first disciple and declared himself Daoist Lingxuan, the first human-shaped spiritual entity in Chaos 2 3.
His cultivation is closely linked to his disciples through the Ten Billion Times Share system. Their breakthroughs, altered destinies, and acquired treasures repeatedly strengthen Zhou Xuan, enabling his rapid rise while he remains within the concealed Lingxuan Dao Field 7 45 110.
Zhou Xuan later revealed that he came from another world. When pressed by the Great Dao’s avatar about his destination, he answered only that he was going “Where the Heart Leads” 243.
The system later addressed Zhou Xuan as “Master” and implied that he may have created it, but withheld the full truth until he reaches Chaos Great Dao Supreme Grand Perfection 297.
Appearance
Zhou Xuan usually presents himself as a young Daoist with an unhurried, detached bearing. He is frequently seen beneath the ancient willow of the Lingxuan Dao Field, reclining in a rocking chair with tea or a book in hand 2 197.
- Often wears loose white or pale robes. 197 213
- Has long hair hanging down his back. 213
- His awakening, movement, or cultivation can cause flowers to bloom, spiritual birds to gather, and natural phenomena to shift. 19 29
- Normally conceals his aura so thoroughly that he can appear to be an ordinary mortal. 246
- His physical body, tempered by Chaos Origin and Great Dao runes during his slumber, is comparable to an Innate Supreme Treasure. 4
Personality
Zhou Xuan is notably leisurely. He prefers reading, drinking tea, sleeping, and leaving cultivation to his system and disciples rather than pursuing advancement through conventional hardship 4 45. His sect’s most important practical rules are not to disturb him while he is reading or resting, and not to invoke his name casually after leaving the Dao Field 52 83.
Despite this indifference, he is deeply protective of those under his care. He treats every Ling Xuan Sect disciple as his “reverse scale” and will intervene when they face genuine danger 197. He is also generous with treasures and explicitly rejects favoritism among his disciples 365.
His casual demeanor can turn ruthless toward enemies, particularly Hongjun and those who threaten his disciples. He holds a longstanding grudge against Hongjun over the Jade Disk of Creation and views Hongjun’s merger with the Dao as enslavement to the Heavenly Dao 49 239.
Abilities & Skills

- The Ten Billion Times Share subsequently expanded each flower to thirty-six billion grades. 7
- His triple-flower phenomenon greatly surpassed Sun Wukong’s nine-grade Three Flowers Gathering at the Crown. 7

Physical and Reality-Altering Power
At higher realms, Zhou Xuan’s casual actions can override the Laws and authority of the Primordial World.
- Restored the near-dead Hollow Willow Tree and saved Yang Mei with a single finger. 180
- Dispelled a Heavenly Dao lightning tribulation with a word. 274
- Destroyed the Primordial Lord of Heaven and his Heavenly Punishment with what observers believed to be a drop of water, later identified as Zhou Xuan’s spit. 203 206
- Annihilated the Heavenly Dao’s avatar with a flick of his finger. 247
- Could initially contend with the Heavenly Dao outside his Dao Field, while the Dao Field itself conceals heavenly secrets and minimizes karmic exposure. 45
