Background and History
Ying Zheng unified the six states, integrated the Nine Provinces, standardized script, weights, and measures, built imperial roads and the Great Wall, and created the title of “Emperor.” Rejecting the subordinate title of Son of Heaven, he proclaimed that he would cultivate immortality and defy Heaven itself. 33
His defiance provoked the Heavenly Dao, which decreed that he would die at forty-nine and that Great Qin would perish in its second generation. When Sun Wukong entered the Qin palace, Ying Zheng initially rejected the Monkey King's offer of brotherhood and protection; Wukong nevertheless left him a Life-Saving Monkey Hair, to be used if he ever chose to call for aid. 34 35
At the Palace of Sha Qiu, Ying Zheng reached the prophesied age of forty-nine and used the Monkey Hair as he died. His soul was sentenced by King Yama to ten thousand years in the eighteenth level of hell for defying Heaven, but Sun Wukong forced the Underworld to release him. In return, Ying Zheng acknowledged Wukong as his elder brother and resolved to seek a path beyond fate. 63 67 69 70
Sun Wukong brought him to the Lingxuan Dao Field, where Zhou Xuan accepted him as his second inner disciple. Zhou Xuan removed the restraints on his soul, restored his body, and made him an immortal; Ying Zheng then swore absolute loyalty to his master. 83 84
Restoration of Great Qin
After mastering cultivation tied to national destiny, Ying Zheng returned to find Great Qin destabilized by rebellions and the forged report of his death. He reunited with Fusu and Meng Tian, led the northern army toward Xianyang, executed Zhao Gao, spared and exiled Li Si, and reasserted imperial control. 209 210 211 212
His restored rule changes aspects of his governance. While he condemns Fusu's earlier attempt to obey a forged suicide decree, he considers Fusu's criticism of harsh Qin laws and resolves to seek a state in which “everyone is like a dragon.” 210 212
War Against the Heavenly Court
When Li Jing and Nezha arrived with Heavenly Soldiers to destroy Xianyang, Ying Zheng used his Imperial Seal and the Mountain River Society State Bottle to repel their assault. The bottle's barrier withstands the Heavenly Thunder Earth Fire Great Array without damage to either Ying Zheng or the city. 214 215 216
He then wielded the Conquer the World Sword, killed Li Jing and the attacking Heavenly Soldiers, and subdued Nezha. Declaring that the Human Race would no longer be ruled by the Heavenly Dao, he executed the rebel leaders Liu Bang and Xiang Yu despite their Heavenly Dao protection. 217 218 219
Rise of the Human Dao
Ying Zheng's resistance draws support from the Three Sovereigns and the Human Dao itself. Empowered by Human Dao Merit and later the Human Dao Origin, he becomes the first Saint of the Human Dao and renames Great Qin the Great Qin Sacred Dynasty. 220 225 227 228 230
As Human Dao Saint, he distributes Human Dao Origin to his heir and officials, revives Bai Qi, and grants the people of Great Qin the capacity to cultivate. He formally declares that every citizen of Great Qin can pursue immortality and the Great Dao. 230 231
After defeating the Heavenly Court's forces, Ying Zheng forces the Jade Emperor to surrender treasures and abdicate in his favor, becoming Co-Lord of the Three Realms. Great Qin later forms a brotherly alliance with Sun Wukong's Heavenly Demon Country. 232 233
The Human Dao Incarnation later reclaims the Human Dao Origin Wheel, stripping away much of Ying Zheng's saintly power. Zhou Xuan ultimately brokers the Human Dao's abdication, returning the Wheel to Ying Zheng and establishing him as the true Lord who fully controls the Human Dao. 234 245
Appearance
Ying Zheng is a middle-aged man whose imperial bearing remains intact even as a soul. He commonly wears black-and-gold dragon-patterned imperial robes and a twelve-stringed imperial crown. 33 67 79
- Jet-black hair secured beneath a golden coronet or white-jade imperial crown. 33 79
- Sharp, sword-like eyebrows and cold, eagle- or falcon-like eyes. 33 79

Personality
Ying Zheng is defined by his refusal to submit. He rejects Heaven's authority over human rulers, refuses the title Son of Heaven, and pursues immortality even after learning that defiance will cost him his life and dynasty. 33 35
As emperor, he is severe, proud, and decisive. He reacts furiously to betrayal, rejects weakness in Fusu, and shows ruthless resolve against invaders of Great Qin. 33 210 217
His discipleship under Zhou Xuan tempers this severity with a stronger concern for the people and the long-term prosperity of the state. He spares Li Si for his usefulness, restrains his reliance on killing, and redefines his ambitions around safeguarding Huaxia and allowing its people to become “dragons.” 210 212 218
