History

Hinata entered the Chūnin Exams as part of Kurenai's Team 8. During the preliminary round, she was matched against Naruto Uzumaki. Overwhelmed by fighting Naruto and convinced she could not defeat him, she initially attempted to surrender. Naruto's insistence that neither of them waste the effort that brought them there convinced her to continue. 56

With the Byakugan active, Hinata faced Naruto's multiple Shadow Clones without striking the original Naruto directly. She evaded their encirclement through Eight Trigrams Movement and eliminated the entire group with Gentle Fist pressure-point strikes. Naruto's Curse Mark then activated as he prepared to get serious, disrupting the match. 56 57
