Katakuri grew up among the Charlotte children on Rocks’ ship. When Rocks died, he was only ten and was burdened with protecting younger siblings amid frequent violence and infighting. His failure to prevent retaliation against Brulee after defeating an enemy became the defining source of his guilt and protectiveness. Kaido, then an apprentice on the same ship, was one of the people who supported the Charlotte children during that period. 115 133
