At noon, the sun burned overhead like fire.
In Dormitory Xuan-01, Xian Wu was studying the "Guidance Technique."
"The Guidance Technique is an advanced method of using Soul Force, requiring the practitioner to have a certain level of control over it..." Nie Li said, pushing a page of paper on the desk towards Xian Wu.
"What you need to do now is use your Soul Force to move this piece of paper. It doesn't have to be anything spectacular, just controlling it to move left and right is enough. I'll demonstrate first."
Nie Li formed a sword finger and held it suspended a few millimeters above the center of the paper.
"Move!" Nie Li commanded softly. His Soul Force surged out of his body with his call, invading the paper.
Immediately, the sheet of paper began to move up, down, left, and right on the desk, as flexible as if it were an extension of Nie Li's body.
"Whoa, Nie Li, how did you do that? That's amazing!" Lu Piao rubbed his hands together, eager to try. "Come on, let me have a go!"
His talent was just a tiny bit higher than Nie Li's. If Nie Li could do it, there was no reason he couldn't.
But... Lu Piao just couldn't do it!
Lu Piao's face turned red and his neck bulged. He almost strained himself trying, but he couldn't make the paper move even a little bit.
"It moved, it moved!" Lu Piao exclaimed happily, clapping his hands.
Xian Wu and Nie Li exchanged a knowing smile. It had indeed moved.
If you blow on it with your mouth, of course it'll move.
Lu Piao found an excuse for himself, then put his hands behind his back, acting cool, and lay back on the bed.
"Sigh, too easy, not challenging at all. I'm just a genius!" Lu Piao pulled up his covers and waved his hand. "Brother Wu, you keep practicing slowly, don't get discouraged. Heaven rewards diligence; not everyone is a genius like me."
Xian Wu's forehead was covered in dark lines. He had never met anyone so shameless.
"Listen to Brother Piao and practice well," Nie Li said, patting Xian Wu's shoulder. "I'm exhausted after staying up all night. Wake us up when it's time." Nie Li yawned and lay down on the bed as well.
"No problem, I've got this," Xian Wu readily agreed.
He sat on a small stool, furrowing his brow and widening his eyes. He held his right wrist with his left hand, and his right hand, in a sword finger, hovered above the paper.
Xian Wu's concentration was intense; his eyes were fixed only on his hand and the paper.
Unfortunately, even though his hand trembled like a Parkinson's patient, he couldn't budge the paper one bit.
"Am I worse than Lu Piao? Impossible, absolutely impossible!" Xian Wu shook his head. If that were true, he might as well kill himself. A scholar could be killed but not insulted.
He used to be an outstanding student year after year, a model youth league member. How could he fail at something so simple? That was ridiculous!
So, Xian Wu switched the hand controlling the paper to his left.
One couldn't stick to the same path when it led to failure; one had to be brave enough to try and change.
Failure was the mother of success, but repeatedly repeating the same failed experiments and wasting time would never lead to success.
As expected, the effect was different when he switched to his left hand. Soul Force easily flowed through his left fingertip and invaded the paper.
The paper began to move left and right according to Xian Wu's will.
After about a minute, Xian Wu felt a wave of dizziness, accompanied by ringing in his ears.
He guessed that his Soul Force had been depleted.
One minute of Soul Force maintenance.
If he could convert Soul Force into a new energy battery, it would sell out on Earth.
"Speaking of which, I can't cultivate the Seven Star Divine Curse, so how do I recover my Soul Force?" Xian Wu rubbed his throbbing temples. This was a problem worth considering.
If he forcibly cultivated the Seven Star Divine Curse, he would very likely lose control like that night and inflate like a balloon.
Without Vice Dean Ye Sheng's Spirit Transformation Pill to protect him, Xian Wu wouldn't dare to try it lightly.
Nie Li, having been reborn, was incredibly resourceful. He should have a way.
He'd ask him when he woke up.
Time flew by, and the lunch break ended.
As promised, Xian Wu woke Nie Li and Lu Piao.
"Don't bother me, let me sleep a little longer? Just a little while," Lu Piao whined, acting like he couldn't bear to get out of bed.
Nie Li sat on the edge of the bed, looking at Lu Piao speechlessly.
An idea struck him. "Hey, Xian Wu, which class does that beautiful girl walking past the window belong to?"
"Beautiful girl?" Xian Wu blinked, then immediately understood Nie Li's intention.
"You don't even recognize her? She's the flower of the beginner Inscryption class, nicknamed 'Little Sweetie.' But what's she doing in the male dormitory area? She seems to be looking for someone. Let's go take a look."
"Wait for me! I'm coming too!" Hearing their serious conversation, Lu Piao couldn't lie there any longer. With a powerful flip, he sat up.
"Where is she? Where? Where's the beautiful girl?" Lu Piao, his eyes wide, pressed his face against the window, looking left and right.
"Beautiful my foot! Hurry up, or we'll be late!" Nie Li slung an arm around Lu Piao's neck and dragged him out of the dormitory.
Only then did Lu Piao realize they were playing a trick on him.
"You... you guys are terrible! I'm breaking off my friendship with you! I'm going to break off all contact!" Lu Piao said, crossing his arms and huffing indignantly.
Xian Wu and Nie Li burst into laughter; Lu Piao was truly pathetic.
The first class of the afternoon was taught by the arrogant instructor Shen Xiu.
Nie Li and the other five students took their places at the back of the classroom, and Xian Wu shrugged and stood up from his seat as well.
They had faced hardship together that morning, so he couldn't possibly sit while his brothers stood.
That would be too inconsiderate.
Besides, his seat was in the corner of the classroom anyway, so no one would notice whether he was standing or sitting.
Instructor Shen Xiu strutted into the classroom with her chin held high, hands on her slender waist, her rounded hips swaying with every seductive step, bringing with her a gust of fragrant breeze of unknown origin.
The male aristocratic students gazed at Shen Xiu with adoration.
To die beneath the peonies, to be a romantic ghost.
They would gladly lose ten years of their lives for just a taste of her lips.
The commoner students generally disliked the flirtatious female instructor. Her words yesterday had deeply wounded their hearts.
Seeing Nie Li and the others obediently standing at the back of the classroom, Shen Xiu let out a cold snort and said nothing more.
During class, Shen Xiu, just like yesterday, lectured on trivial matters concerning nobles, imparting nothing of value.
Xian Wu couldn't help but grumble, "People of the Sacred Family are truly gilded on the outside and rotten on the inside."
Fortunately, before coming to class, he had gone to the library to borrow a comprehensive anatomy book.
Nie Li had asked him to borrow it, as the second stage of learning the Guidance Technique involved familiarizing oneself with all the acupoints and meridians of the human body.
Xian Wu had a good memory, and in the span of one class, he had read a quarter of the book.
He estimated that by the time school ended that evening, he would have thoroughly read the entire book.
Xiao Ning'er also paid no mind to Shen Xiu's rambling, repetitive speech. She sat in her seat, quietly cultivating her Soul Force.
She bit her lip gently. Once she began cultivating her Soul Force, her ribs would feel like they were being pricked by needles, causing unbearable pain.
