Background / History
Alliance with Bai Lang
Barry first appears while pursuing an alien object descending toward Central City. Bai Lang recruits him to pursue the World Engine by promising to save Barry’s mother, Nora Allen. Though Barry has only recently gained the Speed Force, he agrees immediately and carries Bai Lang to White Dream City at super-speed. 87
Bai Lang later sends Barry to assist Batman and Superman against the World Engine. Barry joins the Kryptonian conflict in Metropolis, but Faora anticipates and counters his attacks, severely burning and crippling his legs. Despite being unable to stand, Barry decides to attempt rescuing Batman rather than flee. 88 92 93
After Bai Lang defeats Faora, he regenerates Barry’s damaged legs through Magnetic Field Power. Barry subsequently borrows Batman’s Anti-@@REF_ENTITY_8456855@@ Armor and uses its enhancement alongside his Speed Force electricity to help bring down a Kryptonian combatant. 94 95 98
Time Travel and the Parallel World
Seeking to save Nora Allen, Barry follows Bai Lang’s plan to use the Speed Force for time travel. Bai Lang explains that altering the past could collapse their present timeline, then helps Barry accelerate beyond light speed on a specially constructed treadmill. 104
The pair enter a temporal portal but become separated. While Bai Lang arrives in 1999 Gotham, Barry wakes in City Z, an unfamiliar parallel world, where he meets Master Bat Brood—an alternate-world counterpart of Batman. 105 109
Barry assists Master Bat Brood against a giant created by a mad scientist, saving him from the creature’s attack. He later receives a high S-Class assessment from the Hero Association before choosing to leave the parallel world and return to his original timeline. 110 123 136
Saving Nora Allen
After returning, Barry reunites with Bai Lang and insists on resuming the mission to save his mother. They travel to Central City and confront Reverse Flash Thawne, whose stated purpose is to kill Nora in retaliation against Barry. 141
The rescue attempt becomes complicated by multiple Flashes and Reverse Flashes appearing from different timelines. Bai Lang identifies them as future timeline variants. 142 Nora’s soul is later stated to be preserved with Bai Lang’s help, though she still requires a suitable or bionic body for complete resurrection. 156
Justice League
Batman Alfred recruits Barry for a new superhero team intended to defend Earth from future crises. Barry accepts without hesitation, becoming one of the Justice League’s twelve official members. 157
Appearance
Barry wears a red-and-gold Speed Force suit with a red helmet and wing-like symbols at its sides. 87
- Red-and-gold battle suit marked by lightning-themed design. 87
- Surrounded by blue or golden-red electrical arcs while accelerating. 93 104
- An older alternate-timeline Barry has white hair and a wrinkled face. 192 194
- Temporarily wears Batman’s white Anti-@@REF_ENTITY_8456855@@ Armor during the Metropolis battle. 95 98
Personality
Barry is driven foremost by his desire to save his mother. Bai Lang’s promise to help Nora immediately earns his cooperation, and Barry remains focused on the rescue even after being displaced into another universe. 87 141
He is compassionate and determined under pressure. Even after Faora crushes his legs, Barry chooses to help Batman rather than abandon him; he also agrees to join the Justice League as soon as Batman Alfred asks. 93 157
The older Barry of the Broken Bat timeline is described as polite, initially timid, and reluctant to kill. His decades of fighting crime alone in Central City have left him emotionally fragile, especially after the Rogues destroy his home. 193 194
Abilities & Skills
Speed Force
Barry’s primary power grants extreme movement speed, accelerated perception, and rapid response.
- Outruns Bai Lang shortly after acquiring his powers. 87
- Can move fast enough to cover thousands of kilometers in roughly half an hour while towing the Batmobile; at maximum speed, he claims he could cross from Central City to Florida in one second. 194
- Creates afterimages and can rapidly relocate others from danger. 88 193
- His speed is assessed as approximately 700 times the speed of sound in the Hero Association’s parallel world. 123
- Faora’s tactical awareness and superior combat ability allow her to predict and intercept his attacks. 92
- Severe leg injuries can greatly impair his movement, though he can temporarily use his arms to propel himself. 93
Time Travel
Barry’s Speed Force can interact with spacetime when he reaches sufficient velocity.
- Can exceed light speed and enter a temporal tunnel with Bai Lang’s treadmill and magnetic-field assistance. 104 105
- Returns from a parallel universe through Master Bat Brood’s cosmic treadmill. 136
- His time-travel attempts can create or encounter multiple versions of Flash and Reverse Flash from divergent timelines. 142
- An older timeline counterpart uses Speed Force time manipulation to instantly defeat an opponent. 198
Electrical Attacks
Barry generates electrical energy through Speed Force acceleration.
- Uses blue electrical currents in combat against Kryptonians while wearing the Anti-@@REF_ENTITY_8456855@@ Armor. 98
- In the Broken Bat timeline, gathers electrical charge from the air and releases it as powerful current attacks. 203
- Destroys dozens of Parademons with lightning strikes after returning to devastated Central City. 203
- Electrical attacks that could destroy a three-story building are ineffective against Ultraman. 196
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Red-and-gold Flash suit — Barry’s standard Speed Force costume. 87
- Anti-@@REF_ENTITY_8456855@@ Armor — Temporarily loaned by Batman Bruce to protect Barry from radiation and enhance his electrical attacks against Kryptonians. 95 98
- Particle-accelerator treadmill — Built by Bai Lang for their initial attempt to enter the temporal tunnel. 104
- Cosmic treadmill — Constructed by Master Bat Brood’s side to enable Barry’s return from the parallel world. 136
Relationships
- Bai Lang — Ally, benefactor, and instructor in the mechanics of Speed Force time travel; Bai Lang promises to help save Nora and later heals Barry’s shattered legs. 87 94 104
- Nora Allen — Barry’s mother; saving her is his central motivation. Her soul is eventually preserved, but her full resurrection remains incomplete. 87 156
- Batman Bruce Wayne — Battlefield ally during the Kryptonian invasion; Barry attempts to rescue Bruce despite his own crippling injuries. 93
- Batman Alfred — Recruits Barry into the Justice League and discusses the dangers of altering time with him. 157

Alternate-Timeline Counterpart
An older Barry exists in the Broken Bat universe, where the Justice League was never formed and he spent roughly thirty years protecting Central City alone. 192 193
- Agrees immediately when Broken Bat asks him to help save Earth, despite receiving almost no explanation. 193
- Defeats Captain Cold, Deadshot, Javelin, and Captain Boomerang but initially refuses to kill them. 194
- Returns to find Central City devastated by Parademons and destroys many of them using Speed Force-generated lightning. 203
- Fights beside Broken Bat in Gotham against Mantis, combining his speed with Broken Bat’s physical strength and improvised tactics. 203
