Background / History
Creation and early state
The Great Wilderness was opened by Pangu. During world creation, Pangu slew the Three Thousand Chaos Demon Gods and used their origins to strengthen the world; the Sky-Opening Axe, Chaos Green Lotus, Jade Disc of Creation, and Chaos Bead dispersed throughout the realm. This gave the Great Wilderness stable space and complete laws. 108
In its earliest era, the world was profoundly barren. Chaos Spiritual Qi filled Heaven and Earth, the sky was hazy gray, and even enormous mountains stood amid empty land without grass, Spiritual Roots, or ordinary life. The first Innate Gods and Demons remained in gestation, while ordinary Innate Beings would not emerge until the Seventh Tribulation. 21 23 31
Earth-vein stewardship
Styx spread Blood God Sons through the Great Wilderness via the connection between the Sea of Blood Reincarnation Great Array and its earth veins. They gathered early spiritual resources, regulated the veins, adjusted the environment, and recorded the geography of mountains and rivers while avoiding damage to the realm's ecological balance. 42
His Heaven and Earth Samsara Mountain Protection Array eventually merged with the Great Wilderness itself and expanded alongside it. The array carried blood shed in conflicts toward the Blood Sea, where its Death Qi, Sha Qi, and grievance were purified. 175
After receiving the Earth God List and the Yellow Emperor fruit position, Styx's Blood God Son clones became Merit Dharma Bodies that served as powerful mountain gods and land gods across the Great Wilderness. 110
Preservation and recovery
The Western Continent's calamity damaged the Great Wilderness's foundations and began a gradual decline in its rank. Styx feared for the West's survival and brought the Earth God List there to reinforce its protection. 168
Styx's avatars and the Witch Clan continuously maintained the earth veins. Together with the Heaven and Earth Samsara Mountain Protection Array and the Star Dou Great Array centered on Zhou Mountain, they refined Chaos Qi into Innate Spiritual Qi and strengthened the stability of Primordial Heaven and Earth. 352
The breakthroughs of the Ancestor Witches also fed back into the realm. Houtu's advancement enriched the Great Earth and its earth veins, while Dijiang's attainment reinforced space, raised the apparent height of the sky, stabilized the land, and deepened Mount Buzhou's pressure. 327
Ascension and transfer of authority
As living beings multiplied, the Great Wilderness faced increasing resource pressure. Innate Spiritual Qi became thin in densely populated regions, sometimes degrading into Acquired Spiritual Qi; Tribulations were identified as both opportunities for advancement and a self-protective mechanism of Heaven and Earth. 842
After the Great Wilderness completed its ascension, Pangu returned. Styx chose to recall his Earth Vein Incarnations rather than retain extensive control over Pangu's Destiny World, believing that continued occupation of crucial Heaven-and-Earth authority could become harmful. 1510 1511
Pangu stabilized the world as Styx reclaimed the incarnations stationed throughout its earth-vein nodes. Their withdrawal released vast stores of law imprints, Great Dao Merit, and earth-vein essence into Styx, but the Great Wilderness remained intact under Pangu's authority. 1512 1513
Landscape & Structure
The Great Wilderness is defined by immense scale: even a small hill in its early era exceeded the tallest mountains of later ages. 23
- Zhou Mountain — stands at the realm's center, silently stabilizing Heaven and Earth while absorbing and converting Chaos Spiritual Qi. It is independent from the Three Ways, yet also their source. 327 519
- Earth veins — an immeasurable network underpinning the Great Earth; the main vein of Zhou Mountain connects to earth veins across the entire realm. 159
- Starry sky — includes 365 primary stars and 14,800 secondary stars, each linked to Star God incarnations. 1521
- Inner and Outer Chaos — the Great Wilderness is separated from hostile Chaos by layered defensive boundaries. 561
Cosmological Functions
Governance by the Four Transcendent Powers
Since the Great Dao withdrew, the Great Wilderness has been governed by the Heavenly Dao, Earth Dao, Human Dao, and Zhou Mountain. The Three Ways hold overlapping authority, while Zhou Mountain remains outside their direct control. 519
- Heavenly Dao governs formless laws. 589
- Earth Dao governs inanimate matter. 589
- Human Dao embodies the collective will of living beings and changes alongside them. 589
- Zhou Mountain stabilizes the realm and supports the operation of Heaven and Earth. 327
Origin growth
The world can be strengthened by refining Chaos Spiritual Qi, nurturing earth veins, developing living beings, and incorporating the essence of created worlds. 352 522
- The Three Ways must rise in balance for the Great Wilderness itself to advance. 589
- The realm's resource limits and population growth can trigger Tribulations as a corrective response. 842
- World creation is considered the fastest means of increasing its Primordial World Origin. 522
Primordial Chaos Ruins
The reforged Purple Cloud Palace became the Primordial Chaos Ruins, the mandatory portal and frontline of the Great Wilderness. 557 561
- All entry to and exit from the Great Wilderness must pass through the ruins. 561
- It stands at the boundary between Inner and Outer Chaos and confronts invaders before they can reach the Great Wilderness. 561
- It devours Chaos Spiritual Qi, converting it into reserve power and Innate Spiritual Qi that strengthens the realm's origin. 561
- Together with the Heaven and Earth Membrane, it forms two protective barriers against Chaos erosion and Chaos Demon God incursions. 561
Relationships
- Pangu — Creator God and master of the Great Wilderness as his Destiny World; he returned after its ascension and stabilized it during Styx's withdrawal of Earth Vein Incarnations. 1511 1512
- Styx — long-term steward whose formations, incarnations, earth-vein regulation, and world-development efforts strengthened the realm; he later relinquished much of his authority to avoid conflict with Pangu. 42 175 1510
- Heavenly Dao — governs the realm's formless laws and seeks to maintain balance, including warning Styx against disrupting the Great Wilderness's Great Trend. 156 589
- Earth Dao — governs inanimate matter and recognizes figures such as Houtu for their contribution to the Great Earth's development. 327 589
- Human Dao — represents the will and continual change of all living beings within the Great Wilderness. 589
- Zhou Mountain — central stabilizer, source of the Three Ways, and the focal point of the realm's earth-vein and defensive systems. 327 519
