Merlin survives the trial and injures Doflamingo with electric paralysis and a sword strike. Rather than continue a fight that could kill either of them, Doflamingo accepts a two-year cooperation agreement. In exchange for Merlin's services, he provides resources, Haki instruction, Devil Fruits, and information concerning Frevanz's royal family. 79 80 81

Alliance with Merlin

During their cooperation, Doflamingo permits Merlin to train with Family executives and benefits from Merlin's Rokushiki knowledge. 81 82 110 When Baby-5 chooses to remain with Merlin, Doflamingo turns the dispute into a formal alliance rather than openly fighting Merlin. 109 110
