Background

Frevanz

Yol served as a nun in Frevanz and had known Merlin since his childhood. When the country collapsed, she offered to flee with him and protect him, but Merlin convinced her that she could not save everyone by herself 4.

Using Merlin's information, Yol gathered children from the Church and attempted to lead them to safety. War separated her from the group; the ten children remaining under her protection were all lost. She was later shot in the abdomen while protecting others and believed she had failed everyone who depended on her 9 10.

Merlin removed the bullets from her abdomen, healed her gunshot wound, and absorbed her Lead Platinum Disease. Her survivor's guilt worsened afterward, until Merlin forced her to confront the fact that she was a nun rather than an all-powerful saint 10 11.

Escape and mountain training

Yol became Lami's primary guardian after Frevanz's fall, promising to raise her and refusing to abandon her 12. She negotiated with survivor groups, chose to fight beside Merlin, and helped guide civilians during the resistance against the occupying soldiers 13 14.

After escaping through the Fultons Mountain Range, Yol chose to remain with Merlin and Lami rather than part ways with Eric's survivors. She also declared that she would follow Merlin if he became a pirate, trusting that he would not become a cruel one 20.

In the mountains, she helped build their tree dwelling, trained under Merlin's Yoga regimen, and resolved to become strong enough to protect her family 22 26 28.

Yol no longer believes kindness requires passivity; she judges violence by whether it protects life and accords with her own conscience 32 36.
