Background / History
Mei Wa previously served in a military Shadow Unit, where she received the codename Mushroom. During a hostage-clearing operation, she witnessed Alexander Duggan—then known as Jackal—neutralize enemy heavy firepower from 877 meters alongside his spotter, allowing their team to withdraw safely. Her military experience later enabled her to identify Duggan from a photograph. 76
Her sealed records also document severe past torture: she was imprisoned in a water cell, treated “like a dog,” and subjected to prolonged abuse. The trauma remains a deeply guarded wound and resurfaces violently when her supervisor raises the subject. 129 140
At MI6, Mei Wa became the leader of the Special Operations Group. After the 3,800-meter Downing Street assassination, the case was transferred from Scotland Yard to her division. She immediately recognized that the shot exceeded ordinary police capabilities and characterized the shooter as an inhumanly capable sniper. 4
Appearance
Initially, Mei Wa is a sharp-featured woman with golden-brown hair, gray-blue eyes, and a highly professional presentation. At work, she favors practical tactical clothing; outside it, she can adopt a more formal appearance. 4 129
- Golden-brown hair, usually tied in a high ponytail during her early MI6 service 4
- Gray-blue eyes described as constantly scanning for details 4
- Commonly wears a tactical jacket, fitted athletic pants, and light combat boots 4
- Later wears her hair short and tucked behind her ears as Scotland Yard’s Chief Superintendent 191
- Her later public appearance is noticeably more fatigued and aged than her earlier MI6 image 191
Personality
Mei Wa is observant, decisive, and relentlessly methodical. She favors action over inaction, approving unconventional avenues of investigation when conventional evidence fails. Her ability to remain composed under pressure is repeatedly tested by political manipulation, interagency distrust, and the danger of becoming expendable within MI6. 21 83 89 100
Her commitment to justice initially drives her pursuit of Beta and Jackal, particularly after the Downing Street attack. However, MI6’s factional struggle steadily forces her to weigh truth against survival, credit, and political leverage. By the end of her arc, her original morality has been eroded by compromises she never expected to make. 76 100 164 192
Abilities & Skills
Investigation and Forensic Reasoning
Mei Wa can reconstruct events from sparse physical evidence and recognize patterns across international cases.
- Determined that the Downing Street shot was extraordinarily difficult because of range, elevation, temperature difference, and environmental conditions 4
- Authorized a large-scale mosquito blood-DNA collection operation to seek traces of a suspect 21
- Connected the French ultra-long-range assassination to Beta’s known methods 64 69
- Deduced that Beta returned to a French crime scene to recover biological evidence left during a firefight 83
- Identified omissions in French reporting by analyzing bullet-mark distribution and body locations 83
Strategic Planning and Command
Her MI6 dossier credits her with Platinum Certification in complex-operation planning and execution, as well as the successful design and completion of 37 field operations. 62
- Specialized in multi-line command, high-risk decision-making, and resource coordination 62
- Led an eight-person cross-border investigation team in France 69
- Used a nominal French investigation as a way to remove her team from MI6 during an internal reshuffle 73
- Considered timing, reporting channels, and political credit when deciding how to act on her identification of Jackal 76
- Led a temporary squad during the assault on Bianca’s Spanish vineyard estate 108 109
Fieldcraft and Combat
Mei Wa’s military background and Special Operations experience allow her to operate directly in hostile environments.
- Trained through real combat exposure to withstand the physical and psychological pressures of field operations 76
- Infiltrated Bianca’s estate at night using night-vision equipment and coordinated silent movement through the vineyard 108
- Neutralized a perimeter sentry with a suppressed three-round burst 108
- Personally engaged hostile operatives inside the villa and ensured downed threats were eliminated 108
Languages and Regional Expertise
- Native-level French interpretation 62
- Professional-level Russian 62
- Professional communication-level Arabic 62
- Specializes in the former Soviet states, the Caucasus, and the Middle East and North Africa 62
Equipment
- Tactical clothing and light combat boots for field operations 4
- Diplomatic passport used during the French operation 76
- Rifle equipped with a suppressor during the Spanish estate assault 108
- Night-vision goggles 108
- MI6 fingerprint-lifting coating, applied to her fingertips during her meeting with Beta 164
Relationships
- Her supervisor / Charl — A superior who alternately protects, pressures, and manipulates Mei Wa within MI6’s factional conflicts. He risks his own standing to keep her alive, while also viewing her as a means to eliminate rivals and advance his plans. 100 101 123 164
- Alexander Duggan / Jackal — A former Shadow Unit associate whom Mei Wa recognizes from military service. She attempts to use his identity to resolve the Downing Street case, then confronts him at Bianca’s estate. 76 84 110
- Beta / Saloon Wick — Mei Wa’s principal investigative target after the Downing Street shooting. Although she tries to collect his fingerprints during a later meeting, she is eventually forced into the same shadow-political world he inhabits. 4 83 164
- Bianca Pullman — A rival operative from another MI6 faction. Their competition over the Jackal investigation escalates into Mei Wa’s assault on Bianca’s estate, after which Bianca is officially reported dead in a Jackal attack. 76 108 123
- Doyle — Scotland Yard’s Chief Superintendent and father of Eliot. Mei Wa questions him about Eliot’s financial company, later receives a sensitive list from him that becomes central to MI6’s internal purge. 28 55 61
- Charley — A French Security Bureau agent who challenges Mei Wa’s claim that Beta and Jackal are the same person. He suspects MI6 political motives and receives intelligence exposing the attempted identity merger. 89 93
- Her deputy and team — Subordinates who assist her with evidence collection, case analysis, and overseas investigations. Mei Wa treats them as trusted aides, even while directing them to produce deliberately unproductive reports during the MI6 reshuffle. 4 21 73
Story Role / Major Arcs
Downing Street Investigation
Mei Wa assumes control of the Downing Street assassination investigation after the 3,800-meter shot exceeds normal law-enforcement scope. She studies Beta’s methods, investigates the deaths of Jasmine and Eliot, pursues financial leads through Doyle, and authorizes unconventional DNA collection efforts. 4 21 28
MI6 Purge and the Jackal Theory
After obtaining Doyle’s directory of implicated officials, Mei Wa becomes entangled in MI6’s Conservative Faction purge. In France, she recognizes Alexander Duggan as Jackal and considers presenting him as Beta to close both the Downing Street and Munich cases. 56 62 76 84
Her effort collapses when an internal MI6 leak gives French intelligence evidence that Beta and Jackal may be separate people. The failure leaves her vulnerable to charges of treason and secret execution. 93 100
Bianca Operation
Refusing an offer to flee to Russia, Mei Wa chooses to preserve her position by targeting Bianca and taking over her investigation. She leads a temporary squad into Bianca’s Spanish estate, fights through Bianca’s guards, and is later assigned the Jackal case after Bianca’s death. 100 108 123
American Deployment and Cooperation with Beta
As interim leader after Bianca’s team is disbanded, Mei Wa is assigned to protect a U.S. presidential candidate from an assassination attempt attributed to Beta. She later meets Beta directly while delivering a gift on behalf of the Ghost Party, where her attempt to lift his fingerprints exposes that she still cannot abandon her pursuit of him. 140 164
Scotland Yard Appointment
Mei Wa is eventually appointed Chief Superintendent of Scotland Yard after an internal selection process. Public reporting credits her with resolving the Downing Street and Munich assassination attempts, though the promotion visibly comes at a personal cost. 191
