In Guanghan Palace, Ye Changqing hugged a wine jar and drank. The others sat around him, a little tipsy as well.
"Senior Disciple Brother, tell us more about your past."
Bixiao's little face was flushed. She let out a hiccup and made the suggestion.
"Yeah, Senior Disciple Brother, tell us!"
"We want to hear, too."
The other Jie Sect Disciples looked on eagerly.
Their Senior Disciple Brother was far too mysterious. Only in recent years had they gradually heard a few rumors about him.
Every one of his origins was astonishing, far beyond their imagination.
"Very well!"
Ye Changqing smiled faintly. They had nothing better to do, so he might as well tell them a story.
"Have you ever seen the end of chaos?"
He suddenly asked them.
The myriad immortals of the Jie Sect fell into thought. The chaos beyond the heavens was boundless; even the Saints could not explore where it ended.
"One flower, one world; one leaf, one bodhi."
"Have you ever considered that our vast Primordial World might be nothing more than a leaf or a grain of sand in another world?"
Ye Changqing asked again.
This was originally a theory of the Western Sect, but he had taken it to broaden their horizons.
Their perspective was still too narrow, focused only on the present.
"Gasp..."
"This..."
The Jie Sect Disciples were badly startled by his words. If things were really as Senior Disciple Brother said, that world must be astonishingly powerful.
"How does it compare to Senior Disciple Brother's Primordial World?"
Zhao Gongming posed the question.
The Primordial World was already so powerful that he could not imagine it. Even ordinary living beings there had reached the realm of Primordial Unity Great Luo Immortals.
Even a being as powerful as Great God Pangu was only somewhere in the middle.
"The Primordial World is indeed at the pinnacle of all worlds."
Ye Changqing nodded.
"But do you know where the Primordial World came from?"
He asked once more.
He scooped up a handful of dust from the ground, then let it trickle through his fingers.
"As I said, there may be countless worlds even within this handful of dust."
"All the worlds beneath the Primordial World are collectively known as the myriad heavens and worlds."
The myriad immortals of the Jie Sect followed Ye Changqing's example and picked up handfuls of dust. They carefully released their spiritual senses to examine it, but found nothing.
Looking at them grinning foolishly at the dust, Ye Changqing decided to tell them an inspiring story.
It was called Stellar Transformations. (The first novel I ever read, an eternal classic!)
It was the story of an ordinary man who refused to accept an ordinary life, steadily grew stronger, ascended again and again, and ultimately established himself above the myriad heavens and worlds.
Of course, he changed the protagonist's name to his own.
"I once taught the Three Thousand Immortal Kings in a small world called Shrouding the Heavens, and led them in quelling the Dark Calamity."
"After I slew the Dark Immortal Kings and ascended to the Ninth Heaven, I found no one there..."
"In the end, I severed the River of Time and chose to stand alone throughout the ages."
San Xiao, Holy Mother Wudang, Holy Mother Guiling, and the other female immortals gazed at him, inexplicably feeling heartache.
Was their Senior Disciple Brother now not also standing alone throughout the ages for the sake of the Jie Sect?
"Ding! Congratulations, host. The mysterious past you fabricated—that of the master of the Three Thousand Immortal Kings who stood alone throughout the ages—has successfully become true after death."
"Reward: Primordial Unity Tribulation-Crossing Pill ×3, Spirit Ascension Treasure Voucher ×5."
No one doubted Ye Changqing's words. He had earned the reward once again.
In the final battle of the future Investiture of the Gods Tribulation, the Myriad Immortals Formation would be broken, and countless Jie Sect Disciples would die or be injured. Heartbroken, Sect Master Tongtian would try to destroy the Primordial World and recreate chaos.
Old Ancestor Hongjun would personally subdue Sect Master Tongtian, force him to swallow a Saint-Slaying Pill, then imprison him in Purple Heavens Palace.
His life and death would be in Heaven's hands.
If that day really came, the Primordial Unity Tribulation-Crossing Pill would be the perfect antidote to the Saint-Slaying Pill.
The Spirit Ascension Treasure Vouchers would be very useful, too. They could raise the level of a magic treasure, even upgrading an Innate Spiritual Treasure to a Chaos Spiritual Treasure.
Ye Changqing found himself thinking of the Four Immortal Slaying Swords. If he upgraded them to Chaos Spiritual Treasures and paired them with an Immortal Slaying Formation Diagram improved using the Chaos Formation Compendium, how many Saints could break through it?
He smiled and drained the last of the osmanthus wine from the jar.
How he wished he could see the Jie Sect's future glory. Sadly, he would not live to see it.
He had only a little over twenty years left, and his body was growing weaker by the day.
He had not slept all night. As the Sun Star rose, his story was nearing its end.
"I swallowed the sun and moon, embraced Qiankun, held the universe within me, and evolved a world. In the end, I became the Hongmeng Controller."
San Xiao and the others listened with rapt attention. The idea of using their dantian for cultivation was completely new to them, and they found it fascinating.
Some Jie Sect Disciples were even considering destroying their cultivation before rebuilding it, so they could give it a try.
But then they realized that there was only one Ye Changqing in the world.
Seeing their disappointment and regret, Ye Changqing imparted the entire Primordial Unity Immortal Method to them.
On Taiyin Star, powerful auras surged one after another as people broke through.
Some even seized the opportunity to successfully slay their corpses.
According to the cultivation method passed down from Purple Heavens Palace, one needed the aid of Innate Spiritual Treasures to slay all three corpses.
Yet there were only a little over a thousand Innate Spiritual Treasures in the entire Primordial World.
Many of them possessed only one or two Postnatal Spiritual Treasures. Some were so poor that all they had was their cultivation.
This cultivation method overturned everything they had imagined: it let them slay their corpses without needing spiritual treasures.
The Jie Sect's myriad immortals stared in amazement at their steadily rising power, speechless.
This method was truly wondrous!
"Thank you, Senior Disciple Brother!"
The Jie Sect Disciples all bowed before Ye Changqing in gratitude.
Though Ye Changqing had rooted out some traitors within the Jie Sect, he had still kept something back.
The cultivation method he taught came with a restriction: cultivators could only comprehend it for themselves and could not pass it on to others.
Even if a Saint captured them and searched their Primordial Spirits, it would be in vain.
"All right, all right."
"We should get going."
Ye Changqing stood up and brushed the dust off his clothes.
Before leaving Taiyin Star, Ye Changqing decided to give Chang'e some compensation for having imposed on her.
"I drank so much of your osmanthus wine. I should grant you a blessing in return."
"Would you like to leave here and return to the Primordial World?"
Chang'e's eyes widened at once, filled with disbelief.
All night long, she had not said a word, only quietly listening.
She had always thought everything he said was a pack of lies, and had even felt some disdain for him.
But when he asked her that question, she couldn't hold back anymore.
Large tears rolled down her cheeks. She had waited for this chance for far too long.
"What you said... is it true?"
Ye Changqing sighed. She was a poor soul, too.
It was just a pity that by the time people in the future reached the moon, Chang'e would be gone.
Still, they might take the name he left behind as a trace of Chang'e's existence.
Perhaps someone would even come along and argue that it wasn't Chang'e who flew to the moon, but a man named Ye Changqing.
They might even produce evidence that Chang'e's real name had been Ye Changqing.
Ye Changqing cast the strange ideas from his mind and handed Chang'e a Primordial Unity Tribulation-Crossing Pill.
She froze.
It had all begun because of a pill, and now it would end with another.
Perhaps it was all a matter of cause and effect, set in motion by fate.
