Background / History

Ye Changqing was the Jie Cult’s prodigious senior disciple and attempted to attain Primordial Unity through power in the Chaos. During the tribulation, he rejected Sect Master Tongtian’s help, dispelled a lightning tribulation with one sword strike, and overcame an Inner Demon Tribulation formed from his past traumas and failures 1 2.

His attempt drew intervention from Old Ancestor Minghe, Daoist Randeng, and Demon Master Kunpeng, while Tongtian was restrained by Laozi, Zhunti, and Jieyin. Ye Changqing turned the Chaos Divine Thunder against his attackers, severely injuring Minghe and Randeng and forcing Kunpeng to flee; the tribulation instead sharpened his aura 3 5. When the Heavenly Dao manifested its Eye to suppress him, his Clear Heart Sword Intent broke the restraint. He destroyed the Eye and became a Saint 7.

After later suffering worsening injuries and having less than a thousand years of lifespan remaining, Ye Changqing activated the Hongmeng Wish System. It offered to turn the “mysterious past” he fabricated into reality after his death. He subsequently presented himself to San Xiao as the Hongmeng Controller: the god of a primordial Hongmeng World destroyed before his reincarnation in the Primordial World 11 13.

Ye Changqing spent his remaining time preparing the Jie Cult for the Investiture of the Gods Tribulation. He punished Chan Sect aggressors, though he spared True Person Huang Long after ordering him to restore the Peach Blossom Forest 18. He gave the Jie Cult the Chaos Formation Compendium and the Primordial Unity Immortal Method, supported Niangniang Shiji with the Water Spirit Pearl, and aided Chang’e with a Primordial Unity Tribulation-Crossing Pill 25 41 42.

Before his death, he granted Pangu’s essence blood to Empress Pingxin and gave Empress Nuwa Hongmeng Purple Qi and the Human Dao Golden Seal. His name appeared on the Investiture of the Gods and was immediately erased, marking his true death 50. Nevertheless, his influence persisted through formations, instructions, statues, and his disciples’ faith 82 86 97.

Ye Changqing’s consciousness later awakened and controlled his statue on Golden Ao Island to defend the Jie Cult during its crisis 97. He ultimately ascended as a Mythical Great Luo and resurrected in full, returned to the Primordial World, destroyed the Western World in retaliation, and used the River of Time to restore slain Jie Cult disciples 148 149.

Personality

Ye Changqing is resolute and defiant in the face of overwhelming authority. During his Dao tribulation, he refused assistance, treated tribulations as tempering, and directly challenged the Heavenly Dao 1 5 7.

He is also protective and invested in the Jie Cult’s future. Even while dying, he sought ways to change his disciples’ fates, distributed cultivation methods and treasures, and made arrangements for the coming tribulation 11 25 42 50. His retaliation against the enemies responsible for the Jie Cult’s losses contrasts with his mercy toward figures he considers less culpable, such as True Person Huang Long 18 149.
