Background

Sect Master Tongtian is the master of Ye Changqing and the leader of the Jie Cult. Before Ye Changqing's Dao tribulation, Tongtian foresees that an impending calamity could annihilate the Jie Cult, though heavenly secrets prevent him from seeing its full course. Ye Changqing's warning that even Tongtian could not escape the future tribulation drives him to seek a path beyond ordinary Heavenly Dao Sainthood. 1

He attempts to protect Ye Changqing during the latter's tribulation, but the Two Sages of the West prevent him from intervening. Ye Changqing's eventual ascension gives the Jie Cult a second Saint, leaving Tongtian deeply proud of his disciple. 3 7

After Ye Changqing's presumed death, Tongtian follows the plan left within the Chaos Bead: he relinquishes his Saint Position, removes the Saint-Slaying Pill's control with the Primordial Unity Tribulation-Crossing Pill, and rebuilds his cultivation through the Primordial Unity Immortal Method. 74 78

Personality

Tongtian is fiercely protective of the Jie Cult and treats its survival as his foremost responsibility. He supports Ye Changqing's decisions against those who damage the sect's fortune, though he personally disdains needlessly ruthless actions. 32

He becomes increasingly distrustful of Laozi, Venerable Primordial, and the Heavenly Dao after learning the Jie Cult's destined downfall. At Ye Changqing's funeral, he severs his ties with Laozi and Venerable Primordial, declaring that the Three Pure Ones no longer exist. 56
