Background / History

Hongjun revealed the Primordial Violet Qi after completing the Purple Cloud Palace sermons. He explained that it was the key to achieving Sainthood, while the six front-row Prayer Mats corresponded to the six Saint Positions. Three strands were given to the Three Pure Ones, while the other appointed recipients also received access to the Qi through Hongjun's arrangement 60.

The final strand was initially left masterless. Hongjun allowed fate to determine its recipient after the seating dispute and the turmoil caused by Zhun Ti's actions 62. It eventually fell into Hong Yun's hands, but Hong Yun refused to retain it. He returned it to the Heavenly Dao, declaring that the Qi should belong to someone whose virtue matched the Saint Position. The Heavenly Dao accepted it and rewarded Hong Yun with merit 63 64.

The Qi later re-entered the struggle for power when Hongjun gave a strand identified as the one previously bestowed upon Hong Yun to Di Jun. Di Jun secretly refined it, but its possession placed the Demon Race under pressure and caused him to question whether accepting it had been a mistake 539 554 556.

Afterward, Primordial Violet Qi became central to Fuxi's path. Hong Yun arranged for it to merge with Fuxi's cultivation in a controlled manner, and fragments of the Qi were eventually reunited during Fuxi's achievement of Dao 700 832 926. Fuxi attained the authority of a Saint without directly using his own Nascent Soul to carry the Qi 926.

The Qi also became a source of danger to the established Heavenly Dao Saints. Tong Tian, Taiqing, and Nu Wa attempted to sever their connections to it, with Tong Tian's separation initially leaving residual traces within his Nascent Soul 929 935 938 940. By the later conflict with Hongjun, Hong Yun was again described as possessing Primordial Violet Qi 937.

The Qi becomes the test of Hong Yun's attempt to escape his predetermined fate. Although he receives the final strand, he refuses to keep it, returns it to the Heavenly Dao, and accepts merit instead of Sainthood 63 65.

Di Jun's Possession

Hongjun later gives the recovered strand to Di Jun. Its possession increases Di Jun's power prospects but also makes him a target and places the Demon Race in danger. Di Jun considers transferring it to Fuxi, but Fuxi refuses 539 554 556.
