Background / History

Hong Yun was originally the first cloud in heaven and earth, formed with the innate origins of Water, Fire, and Wind. His present self is a transmigrated soul from later generations who knew the original Hong Yun’s doomed fate and resolved to alter it. He travelled through chaos toward the Purple Cloud Palace alongside Zhen Yuan Zi, seeking the turning point that would change his destiny. 1

At the Purple Cloud Palace, Hong Yun gave up his seat to Hou Tu. The opportunity enabled Hou Tu to absorb Pure Qi and cultivate a Nascent Soul, creating a profound karmic bond between Hong Yun and the Ancestral Shamans. 16 He later relinquished the Primordial Violet Qi as well, an action that made other great cultivators regard him as far more calculating than his benevolent reputation suggested. 66

Hong Yun developed a path apart from both conventional Law cultivation and the Three Corpses method. After reaching Quasi-Saint without severing corpses, he became a variable whom Hongjun could not easily suppress due to his ties to the Witch Clan and the broader Primordial Era’s fate. 135 136

He subsequently became a central force in the Human Dao, protected the Human Race, and developed Fire Cloud Cave World into a world capable of sustaining living beings and cultivation. 522 535 By the later era, he stood against Dao Ancestor Hongjun, protected the Human Dao’s fortune, and wielded power that surpassed a Heavenly Dao Saint. 701

Appearance

Hong Yun usually appears as a red-haired youth with a jade-like face, star-like eyebrows, moon-like eyes, and a faint smile. His eyes are notably intelligent and lively. 1

Personality

Hong Yun deliberately cultivates the public image of a generous, righteous “good person,” but Zhen Yuan Zi recognizes that he is careful, shrewd, and difficult to take advantage of. 1 He plans around karma, long-term consequences, and the known general trend of events rather than acting impulsively.

His kindness is genuine when protecting those under his care: he aided Hou Tu, took responsibility for Ancestral Dragon rather than abandoning him, saved Xi He’s children’s True Spirits, and repeatedly supported the Human Race. 16 198 652 However, he is not merciful toward persistent enemies. When pushed, he fights ruthlessly, exploits openings precisely, and refuses to spare opponents merely out of sympathy. 85 86 812
