Background / History

Pope of the Mysterious Church

As the Female Pope, Bonneville sought to expand the influence of the deities through legitimate political authority rather than relying only on personal force. She crowned Denaren king of Gantis on the condition that he embrace the deities eternally, then secretly assigned two seventh-tier God Seers to protect him. 110

Her faith in the Ancestor God was intense and personal. During a vision in Gantis, she received a piece of flesh and blood that she believed was a divine gift, absorbed it into herself, and wished to become “Secret Dread” so she could remain beside her master forever. Tang Chuan later observed that the flesh and blood was not actually his. 110

Continental Expansion

Bonneville followed the God of Mystery and Terror eastward when it crossed the sky, then became involved in the confrontation over the newly discovered continent. She challenged Goblin, the supposed king across the void, and declared that his head would become her goblet. 132 135

She subsequently concluded that war was necessary “for the gods” and for civilization. During the prolonged conflict between the continents, she rejected peace negotiations, allowed God Seers to become Fallen Creatures in battle, and used the conflict to erode royal authority. 136 155

The Divine Favor House

Bonneville became determined to find a route to godhood after learning that the Divine Favor House allegedly allowed mortals to become deities for a sufficient price. She restarted the Church's investigation and arranged for customers to seek an audience with its owner. 156

At the Divine Favor House, she met Tang Chuan, whom she knew as the Boundless Heavenly Venerate and the shopkeeper. To preserve the memory that gave her a path toward godhood, she offered her wealth, two-tenths of her power, and ultimately her sense of taste as part of her transactions. 163 165 473

Consolidation of Canglan

Bonneville dismantled the Kingdom Alliance through bribery, political coercion, control of rear armies, and the promise of lifelong authority to compliant heirs. By the time seven kingdom heirs came to pledge allegiance, the alliance had effectively collapsed. 212

To prevent morale from collapsing during the border war, she ordered death warriors disguised as enemy soldiers to raid her own merchant caravans. She intended to preserve the conflict, maintain public outrage, and keep her authority intact, accepting that the operatives might need to die to preserve secrecy. 175 176

War for Cangmang Star

When the Dawn Empire arrived, Bonneville treated the extraterrestrial threat as an opportunity to unify Cangmang Star. She rapidly mobilized Canglan's forces and became the planet's central military and political figure. 310 313 314

She deliberately framed the Dawn Empire as irredeemable invaders to create a permanent divide between Wutong Star and Cangmang Star. Her aim was to bind the population to her cause and secure control over the planet, even if the resulting war cost countless lives. 318

Her gamble eventually became a source of regret. Tang Chuan confronted her over using the masses as stakes for her own future, and Bonneville admitted that she had misused divine power and had no right to make such choices for everyone. 348

Reformation and Ascension

Following the war, Bonneville secretly worked with Azk to promote gradual civilization integration. While Azk focused on entertainment and cultural influence, Bonneville concentrated on improving daily life and avoiding backlash from rapid change. 381

Over the next decade, she abandoned much of her former obsession with absolute power. Under her rule, Canglan reached exceptional material and spiritual prosperity, with cultural products exported to other regions. 469 470

After receiving the Future World, Endless Treasure Trove, Bonneville shared its contents with Kubana and Azk rather than keeping the advantage for herself. Her decision convinced both rivals that her transformation was genuine. 531 532

Bonneville later became a Second Generation Deity alongside Kubana. She took responsibility for spreading faith, maintaining order, and ensuring that technological and social advances reached the mortal world. 566 568 573

Appearance

Bonneville is usually associated with black papal attire, dark energy, and an imposing, cold presence. In public she can shift between ceremonial robes and a fitted black dress almost instantly. 135 241

  • Black hair described as cascading like a waterfall. 475
  • Often wears black robes that merge into the void while flying. 132
  • Can manifest a cloud-like black gown around herself through rolling dark energy. 475
  • Commands battles in soft armor inscribed with magic arrays. 346
  • Her divine form wears a hooded garment that conceals the colors of the stars; her face is indistinct, but recognizable to those familiar with her. 566

Personality

Bonneville is intensely ambitious, self-reliant, and unwilling to yield initiative to rivals. She considers power a tool for changing the world rather than an end in itself, and she is indifferent to whether history praises or condemns her. 177 385

Her devotion to the deities initially strengthened her resolve but also fed her willingness to justify extreme actions. She was prepared to sacrifice wealth, power, senses, soldiers, and civilians if she believed doing so would create her ideal future. 165 175 318

After confronting the consequences of her choices, she became more reflective and repentant. She did not abandon her capacity for command, but redirected it toward peace, prosperity, and the spiritual well-being of ordinary people. 381 406 470

Bonneville remains lonely despite her status and later divinity. She seeks ordinary experiences—sunsets, taverns, streets, wilderness travel, and the starry sky—to escape the isolation created by power. 470 508
