Background / History

Rui is the fourth son of Inuzuka Ryo. He grew up close to the clan’s ninja dog White Wolf Maru, so he took Zhou Duan’s shaving and plucking of the dog’s fur personally 44.

At Steel Rock Valley, Inuzuka Jin assigned Zhou Duan’s newly arrived squad to Rui for training before a major battle. Rui initially singled Zhou Duan out with condescending advice, then ordered the squad to clean a sewage pool—a job normally handled by a dedicated team—while presenting it as psychological preparation for combat 43 44.

Zhou Duan’s squad cleared the pool and investigated Rui. After Zhou Duan used potions on Rui’s ninja dog, Yakushi Maru, Rui begged him to stop and promised not to retaliate. Jin intervened, but kept Zhou Duan’s squad under Rui’s command. Over the following two days, Rui did not trouble them again and instead taught them battlefield precautions and information about Sand Ninja traps 45 46 47.
