Background / History
Hinata first knew Gu Qi as a child, when he repeatedly helped a young Hyuga girl. Their connection became pivotal when a Kumogakure ninja abducted her from the Hyuga compound; Gu Qi attempted to rescue her despite severe injuries, and Hiashi later formally thanked him for saving his daughter 1 6 18.
At the Ninja Academy, Hinata becomes Gu Qi's deskmate. She is initially too shy to speak comfortably around him and repeatedly faints when embarrassed, while Gu Qi gradually realizes that she is the same girl from his childhood. They confirm their feelings, and Gu Qi walks her home after confessing to her 47 49 51 56.
After graduation, Hinata joins Team Eight with Kiba and Shino, while Gu Qi is assigned to Hyuga Homura's veteran genin team. Though saddened by their separation, she promises to train hard enough to keep up with him 62.
During the Chunin Exams, Hinata refuses to yield to Neji's fatalism and hostility toward the Main Family. Encouraged by Gu Qi, she continues fighting despite serious injuries and openly asserts her own beliefs before Gu Qi uses a Healing Potion to save her 76.
When Gu Qi is believed dead, Hinata's grief triggers the awakening of her Tenseigan. On his return, she challenges him to a spar to prove that she can fight beside him; her new power overwhelms many of his usual techniques, though Gu Qi judges that she still lacks experience controlling it 120 121.
Hinata later tracks Kakashi and Shikamaru to join the search for the missing Gu Qi. She uses her dōjutsu to locate him inside a secret base and helps rescue him from Zetsu and the guards holding him captive 143 144 146.
Danzō subsequently uses Kotoamatsukami to control Hinata, forcing her to stab Gu Qi and testify falsely against him. Although the immediate genjutsu is released, Gu Qi later seeks to recover the memories and feelings altered by Danzō's technique 155 156 188.
Appearance
Hinata has sapphire-blue eyes, which become the visible focus of her Tenseigan awakening. During a quiet meeting with Gu Qi at the Hyuga estate, she is seen wearing a kimono while making pressed flowers 120 123.
- Frequently blushes, lowers her head, or stammers when Gu Qi gives her attention during her Academy years 47 49.
- Her grief over Gu Qi's apparent death leaves her noticeably thinner before their reunion 120.
- The Tenseigan's strength initially causes accidental displays of force, including lifting Hanabi with invisible power 120.
Personality
Hinata begins as quiet, timid, and easily overwhelmed around unfamiliar people or Gu Qi. Her shyness does not mean passivity: she trusts Gu Qi deeply, defends him against Hanabi's accusations, and accepts his help even when others question his methods 56 66 76.
Her defining motivation becomes the desire to stand beside Gu Qi rather than remain someone he must protect. This drives her to confront Neji, pursue greater strength after Gu Qi's near-death experience, and independently join the mission to rescue him 76 102 135 143.
After awakening the Tenseigan, Hinata becomes much more assertive. She challenges Gu Qi directly, insists that he stop holding back, and takes decisive action against enemies during the rescue operation. However, Gu Qi notes that she can rely too heavily on her overwhelming power rather than experience and tactical judgment 120 121 144.
