Background / History

During the Nine-Tails' attack on Konoha, Kakashi rescued the infant Gu Qi from the beast. Gu Qi's parents died protecting him during the same incident, leaving Kakashi as his closest surviving paternal relative and protector. 1

Although initially reluctant to teach a very young Gu Qi, Kakashi agreed once Gu Qi expressed a desire to become strong enough to protect family and friends. He began with chakra refinement, later taught the Three Basic Jutsu, assessed Gu Qi's Lightning, Wind, and Fire chakra natures, and introduced him to Lightning Release: Earth Running. 2 6 8

Kakashi supplemented Gu Qi's training with scrolls containing ninjutsu, taijutsu, swordsmanship, camouflage, tracking, and counter-tracking methods. Recognizing Gu Qi's physical potential, he arranged for Might Guy to serve as the boy's taijutsu instructor. 8 13 14 29

Personality

Kakashi presents himself as relaxed, dryly humorous, and easily distracted by Icha Icha Paradise. His habit of arriving through windows and claiming to have “got lost on the road of life” regularly frustrates Gu Qi. 5 20

Beneath that casual demeanor, he is fiercely protective of Gu Qi. He warns Anbu surveillance teams away from his cousin, insists Gu Qi involve him in risky negotiations, and repeatedly intervenes when Gu Qi is endangered. 23 39 59 78

His mentorship is practical rather than indulgent. Kakashi praises Gu Qi's talent but repeatedly stresses that talent without work is worthless, sets conditions before teaching advanced techniques, and seeks specialized instructors where his own expertise is insufficient. 8 13 14
