Background / History

Clear Sky Sect Heir and Fugitive

Tang Hao was the Clear Sky Sect’s favored heir and Tang Chen’s personally chosen successor. He studied smithing under Tai Tan, choosing him over the other subordinate clan heads who offered apprenticeships, and attained Divine Craftsman mastery 174 260 283.

Ah Yin sacrificed herself to give him a hundred-thousand-year ninth Spirit Ring. Tang Hao preserved her Soul Bone rather than absorbing it. During Spirit Hall’s subsequent pursuit, he fled with the infant Tang San; serious injuries left untreated after his departure from the sect became lasting internal damage 173 178 259.

The Clear Sky Sect blamed Tang Hao for the conflict that forced it into seclusion and expelled him. Tang Hao nevertheless defended the sect’s refusal to rescue him: Tang Chen had already departed, and intervention against Qian Daoliu’s campaign could have destroyed the sect 312 376 398.

Secret Protection of Tang San

As Tang San and Xiao Wu approached graduation in Nuoding City, Tang Hao left to scout their route and protect his son secretly. Knowing Xiao Wu was a transformed spirit beast, he feared that powerful Soul Masters might fight over her and involve Tang San in the danger. His concern centered on his son’s survival rather than Xiao Wu’s capture 107.

His years as a fugitive restricted his access to information. Consequently, he did not know about Qin Yuan’s Divine Slaughter’s Domain before their confrontation near Suotuo City 173.

First Battle with Qin Yuan

After Lei Meng nearly killed Tang San, Tang Hao threatened Lei Meng’s students to lure him outside Suotuo City alone. He attacked with the Clear Sky Hammer, but Qin Yuan intervened and stopped the blow 172.

Tang Hao refused to disclose his relationship with Tang San. He briefly considered recruiting Qin Yuan, reasoning that Ning Fengzhi would not have invested in someone firmly aligned with Spirit Hall. That possibility ended when their confrontation became a duel 173.

Qin Yuan wounded Tang Hao and revealed two hundred-thousand-year rings, prompting Tang Hao to covet the corresponding Soul Bones. Tang Hao escalated through Clear Sky True Body, hammer secret arts, and the detonation of his first eight rings. The final clash aggravated his old injuries so severely that he escaped using its shock waves 173 174 175.

Abduction of Ye Tianxin

Unable to recover properly, Tang Hao entered Heaven Dou City and stalked Ye Tianxin, whose healing abilities offered a chance to treat his internal injuries. Disguised in a straw rain cape and broad bamboo hat, he ambushed Ye’s group with Divine Slaughter’s Domain, knocked the disciples unconscious, and threatened them to secure Ye’s compliance 239 242 243.

Tang Hao bound Ye’s hands and feet and concealed him in underwater caves in Sunset Forest. Water-soluble medicine left by Ye exposed their hiding place. Qin Yuan forced Tang Hao out by heating and draining the lake while Dugu Bo and Lei Zhen prepared an encirclement 246 248.

Ye had stabilized Tang Hao’s injuries without truly healing them. Cornered by the three attackers, Tang Hao detonated six rings and escaped, worsening his condition again. He subsequently hid in caves near Heaven Dou City, emerging only at night for food and relying on his ninth ring’s vitality to remain alive 247 248.

Reunion and Recovery at Shrek

When his condition became critical, Tang Hao cleaned himself up and visited Tang San so that his son would not be left wondering about his disappearance. He entrusted Tang San with Ah Yin’s Soul Bone and instructed him to seek Madam Yuehua at Moonlight Pavilion, but collapsed before finishing his directions 257 258.

Tang San obtained help from Tang Yuehua, Tang Xiao, and Shrek’s teachers. Rare herbs brought Tang Hao out of immediate danger. He admitted to Tang Xiao that his arrogance had cost him a potential friendship with Qin Yuan and discouraged immediate retaliation 259 260 261.

Once he could move normally and use some soul power, Tang Hao stopped Yuehua’s increasingly conspicuous medicine purchases to protect Moonlight Pavilion and the sect’s intelligence network. He remained at Shrek and took responsibility for the team’s tournament training 264.

Tournament Training and Tang San’s Cultivation Crisis

Tang Hao conducted punishing practical-combat lessons on Shrek’s secluded Back Mountain. He ordered the Battle Soul Masters to spar with Tang San, criticized their mistakes bluntly, and intensified training wherever he found weaknesses. He also instructed the Strength Clan to protect Tang San secretly and obey his commands 265 268.

After learning about immortal herbs from Tang San, Tang Hao searched the Star Dou Great Forest. He returned with numerous plants, but only three qualified as immortal herbs; many others were damaged, immature, or ordinary medicinal ingredients. Although he discouraged sharing the best resources, he ultimately allowed Tang San to manage their distribution 282 283 287 288.

Tang Hao initially opposed adding rings to Tang San’s Clear Sky Hammer, preferring to preserve its slots for older rings later. He taught Tang San a crash course in Disorder Splitting Wind Hammer, but the limited training did not prevent Feng Xiaotian from exploiting Tang San’s poor mastery 312 313 315 335 336.

Eventually, Tang Hao permitted early ring acquisition to address Tang San’s obsession with defeating his rivals. He imposed a limit of one thousand-year ring, with ten-thousand-year rings required thereafter, and sought the tournament’s three Soul Bone prizes to compensate for the sacrifice in future potential 340.

After Tang San acquired three hammer rings, using Clear Sky Strike triggered a collision between his two martial souls’ energies and the remaining medicinal power of his immortal herb. Tang Hao spent half a day dissolving that medicinal power to stabilize him. He could not restore the former balance and warned Tang San against using both martial souls in quick succession 341 342.

Final Confrontation and Death

Tang Hao intervened when Spirit Hall moved to seize Xiao Wu at the tournament’s conclusion. Unable to defeat Bibi Dong directly, he activated Clear Sky True Body and threatened the Papal Palace and spectators, forcing Spirit Hall’s elders to defend them. He abandoned his plan to take the prize Soul Bones from Qin Yuan and escaped with Tang San and Xiao Wu 374 375.

Qin Yuan and Dugu Bo followed at a distance until Tang Hao had left Spirit City and could no longer use its residents as leverage. When they caught him, Tang Hao abandoned Xiao Wu and fled with Tang San. Ghost Douluo intercepted him, prompting Tang Hao to throw his son toward a distant mountain and remain behind to delay pursuit 375 376.

Chrysanthemum and Ghost Douluos immobilized Tang Hao with their combined domain. Qin Yuan’s Infinite Starlight and Dugu Bo’s Jade Phosphorous Divine Light overwhelmed his Ring Detonation and Torso Soul Bone defenses. Qin Yuan decapitated him to confirm his death; Dugu Bo’s examination suggested that aggravated internal injuries, rather than the blade skill alone, had caused the fatal collapse 377.

Aftermath

Spirit Hall recorded witnesses identifying Tang Hao’s mutilated body. Sword Douluo recognized distinctive marks, including the collarbone scar Tang Hao had copied from Tang Chen. Spirit Hall then announced that his remains would be prepared for burial in Douluo Hall 382.

The Strength Clan displayed white mourning cloth, while Tang Yuehua was so devastated that her protectors had to prevent her from taking her own life. Tang San made avenging his father one of his goals, and Tang Xiao postponed retaliation until the Clear Sky Sect could gather sufficient strength 383 387 394 397.

Tang Hao’s death also ended the sect elders’ hostility toward Tang San. They came to regard his son as their best hope of restoring the sect. Tang Hao’s planned post-tournament training remained unfinished; the elders identified Slaughter City as its likely destination, but Tang Xiao forbade Tang San from attempting it while too weak 398 445.

Appearance

Tang Hao is a burly man whose concealed soul-power fluctuations can make him seem ordinary. His familiar disheveled appearance differs markedly from the clean-shaven disguise he adopts before reuniting with Tang San 257 265.

  • Unruly beard — shaves it and changes into fresh clothes before approaching Shrek in critical condition 257.
  • Black clothing — appears as a black-robed figure during the ambush outside Suotuo City 172.
  • Rain-cape disguise — uses a straw cape and oversized bamboo hat during Ye Tianxin’s abduction 243.
  • Left-collarbone scar — deliberately copies Tang Chen’s scar from the Seven Kill Sword 382.
  • Black sect mark — identifies him as one of the Clear Sky Sect’s highest-ranking disciples 382.

Personality

Tang Hao is fiercely protective of Tang San and willing to threaten unrelated people to secure his safety or development. He attempts to kill Lei Meng over Tang San’s injury, uses Ye Tianxin’s students as hostages, and ultimately stays behind against four powerful opponents to give his son time to escape 172 239 376.

Pride and possessiveness frequently shape his decisions. His admiration for Qin Yuan’s talent turns into jealousy when he sees the younger fighter’s rare rings and potential Soul Bones. After nearly dying, he acknowledges that his own arrogance destroyed a possible alliance, though his resentment later resurfaces through his desire for Shrek to defeat Qin Yuan’s team 173 261 264.

His loyalty to the Clear Sky Sect survives expulsion. He accepts responsibility for its suffering, defends its refusal to rescue him, and limits his actions when they could create enemies for the sect or expose its resources 264 312 376.

As a teacher, Tang Hao combines genuine technical knowledge with favoritism and contempt for students he considers unpromising. He prioritizes Tang San and Yu Tianheng, dismisses several teammates as useless, and treats Xiao Wu more gently because of her relationship with his son. His caution about lasting cultivation foundations can nevertheless give way to Tang San’s demands for immediate strength 265 283 315 341.

Abilities & Skills

Clear Sky Hammer

Tang Hao’s martial soul specializes in overwhelming force, supported by the Clear Sky Sect’s secret techniques 173 174.

  • Spirit Ring configuration: yellow, yellow, purple, purple, black, black, black, black, red 172 174.
  • Sky-Piercing Strike: delivers an overbearing attack with the enlarged hammer; its limited range allows Qin Yuan to evade it through superior movement 173 174.
  • Clear Sky Strike: channels immense force into a seemingly plain hammer swing 174.
  • Clear Sky Bulwark: a defensive soul skill used during the lake battle; Qin Yuan’s blade intent progressively erodes it 247.
  • Limitations: heavy hammer martial souls suffer from speed disadvantages and intervals between attacks. Secret hammer techniques help reduce these openings 358.

Clear Sky True Body

His seventh soul skill manifests a gigantic humanoid phantom holding the Clear Sky Hammer 173.

  • Used against Qin Yuan, the lake encirclement, and Spirit Hall 173 247 375.
  • Its destructive scale enables his threat against the Papal Palace and nearby spectators 375.

Disorder Splitting Wind Hammer and Clear Sky Nine Absolutes

Also rendered as Chaotic Cloak Hammer Technique, Disorder Splitting Wind Hammer accumulates force through consecutive attacks. Tang Hao can unite eighty-one strikes and combine the technique with Clear Sky Nine Absolutes 174.

  • Uses the Shatter Art and Breaking Art in combat 174 247.
  • Combining the two systems multiplies his attack force several times over 174.
  • His lower body presents a weakness that Qin Yuan targets while countering the stacking sequence 174.
  • Teaches Tang San the technique but warns him not to chase eighty-one strikes before establishing a sound foundation 315.

Great Sumeru Hammer and Ring Detonation

Tang Hao possesses the Great Sumeru Hammer Profound Meaning, a legacy unavailable to Tang Xiao. Ring Detonation converts shattered Spirit Rings into a temporary surge of soul power 174 398.

  • Enhances both offensive strength and escape speed 174 247.
  • Detonates eight rings against Qin Yuan and six during the lake escape 174 247.
  • Repeated use aggravates his old internal injuries and can leave him unable to fight 248.
  • Preserves his hundred-thousand-year ninth ring during the first duel because its detonation would release power beyond what he could withstand 174.
  • Fails to overcome Chrysanthemum and Ghost Douluos’ combined immobilizing domain during his final battle 377.

Divine Slaughter’s Domain

Tang Hao’s blood-red domain augments his combat power and can overwhelm weaker opponents 174 239.

  • Reinforces his attack during Ring Detonation 174.
  • Knocks Ye Tianxin’s disciples unconscious in the abduction ambush 239 243.

Blue Silver Emperor Ring’s Vitality

Ah Yin’s hundred-thousand-year ring continually supplies Tang Hao with life force 174 248.

  • Keeps him alive after severe injuries and supports his attempts at recovery 248.
  • Has poor compatibility with the Clear Sky Hammer, providing a smaller proportional combat boost and less satisfactory soul skills 174.
  • Does not prevent his internal injuries from becoming fatal 257 377.

Smithing and Cultivation Instruction

Tang Hao attained Divine Craftsman mastery under Tai Tan and understands the relationship between hammer handling, force delivery, and practical combat 262 283 313.

  • Designs cultivation schedules and identifies mistakes through sparring 265 283.
  • Understands why delaying a second martial soul’s rings can preserve its future potential 312 340.
  • Stabilizes Tang San’s cultivation crisis through direct soul-power intervention, but lacks a complete method for safely cultivating twin martial souls 339 341 342.
  • Mishandles unfamiliar medicinal plants; an immortal herb he once dug up withered because he did not know its required harvesting method 282.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Six absorbed Soul Bones — recovered after his death 377.
    • Right-arm and left-leg bones: Clear Sky Sect inherited treasures, both over seventy thousand years old; awarded to Chrysanthemum and Ghost Douluos 377.
    • Eighty-thousand-year Torso Soul Bone: obtained by Tang Chen from an Earth-Armored Dragon and gifted to Tang Hao; used defensively in his final battle 377.
    • Three remaining bones: none exceeds fifty thousand years 377.
  • Blue Silver Emperor’s hundred-thousand-year Soul Bone — Ah Yin’s keepsake, carried rather than absorbed. Tang Hao gives it to Tang San in a brocade box and warns him not to reveal or absorb it before becoming strong enough to protect it 173 257 258.
  • Storage Soul Tool — survives his final battle and is taken by Qin Yuan 377.
  • Concealing flower — given to Xiao Wu to hide her spirit-beast identity from Soul Douluos while fighting; Titled Douluos may still detect her 266.
  • Aura-concealing grass — carried for Xiao Wu’s tournament disguise, with an effect that cannot last indefinitely 281.
  • Harvested herbs — includes a Blue Silver King shoot intended for Tang San and immortal herbs suited to Yu Tianheng and Zhu Zhuqing 287.

Relationships

  • Tang San — son and principal priority. Tang Hao protects him secretly, guides his cultivation, entrusts him with Ah Yin’s Soul Bone, and delays his pursuers so he can escape 107 257 341 376.
  • Ah Yin — wife and source of his ninth Spirit Ring through sacrifice. Her Soul Bone remains a treasured relic, and Xiao Wu’s devotion reminds him of her 173 174 266.
  • Tang Xiao — elder brother and Clear Sky Sect master. Brings healing supplies, shields Tang Hao from sect politics, and later assumes responsibility for Tang San 260 261 387.
  • Tang Yuehua — sister who discreetly obtains medicine and serves as Tang San’s route back to the family 259 260 264.
  • Tang Chen — grandfather, role model, and patron. Chooses Tang Hao as successor and gifts him the eighty-thousand-year Torso Soul Bone 174 377 382.
  • Tai Tan — smithing teacher who later becomes his devoted servant. Maintains the Strength Clan’s allegiance and accepts orders to protect Tang San 262 268.
  • Qin Yuan — recurring enemy whose intervention defeats Tang Hao’s attempt on Lei Meng, leads to Ye Tianxin’s rescue, and culminates in Tang Hao’s death 172 247 377.
  • Ye Tianxin — kidnapped healer. Tang Hao relies on him for treatment, but Ye only stabilizes his injuries and helps rescuers locate the hiding place 239 246 247.
  • Dugu Bo and Lei Zhen — enemies and members of the lake encirclement; Dugu Bo also participates in the fatal pursuit 247 375 377.
  • Xiao Wu — Tang San’s beloved, whose identity Tang Hao knows. He initially protects and disguises her, imposes eventual separation from Tang San, then abandons her during the final pursuit 265 266 376.
  • Yu Xiaogang — Tang San’s teacher, whom Tang Hao privately disdains but retains for political usefulness and access to Bibi Dong’s twin-martial-soul knowledge 265 339.
  • Bibi Dong and Spirit Hall — long-standing adversaries. Tang Hao exploits their responsibility for public safety during his final escape, but Spirit Hall’s Douluos help bring about his death 374 375 377.
