Background / History

Long Wen was sentenced to six years’ imprisonment for assault and battery. After his release, he worked as a security guard in Hedong Province, where his small-scale drug dealing left him indebted to a local thug named A’si. He returned to Tangdu after a man called Qiangzi gave him a bank card on behalf of an unknown “boss,” instructing him to establish a labor-export and passenger-transport business. 38

Using buses as a legitimate front, Long Wen opened a company that sent Tangdu residents out for work. Three months later, the boss ordered him to transport unspecified goods from Hedong to Tangdu; Fourth Brother received the shipment. Long Wen eventually accepted a role in the boss’s drug-trafficking operation and expanded into Hongdu Entertainment City. 38

He gathered local hoodlums around the West City Labor Export Company, cultivating followers through rewards, drugs, and intimidation. Cuntoucao became devoted to him after Long Wen introduced him to drugs while rewarding him for participating in an assault. 31

He rules through a combination of reward and fear. He praises loyalty, distributes money to subordinates, and presents himself as their protector, yet responds brutally to perceived betrayal. When Hu Pan is suspected of leaking information, Long Wen has his thumb severed in front of the group. 38 44

Despite his confidence and swagger, Long Wen remains anxious about police scrutiny and dependent on the protection and direction of his unidentified boss. Cuntoucao’s arrest causes him to flee Tangdu for more than ten days out of fear that his subordinate will implicate him. 38

Long Qiaozhen’s Death

Concerned that police attention may expose Hu Pan and Scarface, Long Wen seeks Qian Fu’s assistance and delegates the problem of Long Qiaozhen to Hu Pan. Her resulting suicide removes a potential witness while the case is formally closed as suicide. 28

Hongdu Drug Conflict

After Cuntoucao’s release from rehabilitation, Long Wen returns to Tangdu and receives orders from the boss to resolve a dispute over Hongdu’s drug market. He deploys Cuntoucao and Hu Pan against Brother Zhang Tou’s men. 38
