Background / History
Before becoming a Zanpakuto, Omniscient was named Zeus and ruled the Void Circle. He could tear through space and travel between worlds, but his growing power caused him to lose control and slaughter indiscriminately. He became a Zanpakuto to restrain himself, at the cost of being unable to use his Void abilities without risking death 165.
Jiang Chen receives him from the system, but cannot initially release him: Omniscient requires his wielder to possess a female Zanpakuto. Jiang Chen obtains Sode no Shirayuki to meet that condition 9. Omniscient later challenges Jiang Chen's worth as his master and attempts to cast him off. Zangetsu subdues him, after which he pledges loyalty 19.
Their partnership deepens as Omniscient comes to see Zanpakuto as companions rather than merely weapons. He unseals his foresight to help Jiang Chen save Muramasa, despite having sealed it to avoid being treated as a fortune teller 66 115. He later uses Void power against Aizen to protect Jiang Chen. The resulting damage to his soul is treated with a Chaos Bead given by Six Paths True Lord 165 179.
Omniscient sacrifices himself so Jiang Chen can gain the spiritual pressure needed to destroy a magic array's eye 184 185. Jiang Chen subsequently uses an Ancient Zanpakuto Activation Card to bring him back 214 215.
Appearance
Omniscient usually appears as a man in a white Shinigami uniform 17 18.
- His appearance is important to him; a joke about his age and looks prompts him to stop speaking to Jiang Chen for a time 137 139.
- A white or black-and-white mask appears when he draws on his Void power 126 227 232.
Personality
Omniscient is proud of his age, knowledge and standing among Zanpakuto. He initially considers Jiang Chen too weak to wield him, and can withhold help when offended 19 137 139. He also values freedom: he sealed his own foresight after prospective wielders tried to use it for trivial questions 115.
Despite his teasing and aloofness, he grows protective of Jiang Chen and the other Zanpakuto. He helps Muramasa because he does not want Jiang Chen to be sad, faces Aizen despite the danger of using Void power, and accepts sacrificing himself rather than let Jiang Chen die 115 165 184.
