Background / History

Early life

Xiao Lan and Jiang Chen recognized one another as siblings at an orphanage. Though they are not related by blood, they relied on each other for years, and Jiang Chen considers her unequivocally his sister. 2 30 217

Her healing-type Supernatural Ability awakened early, allowing her to attend Sacred Heart Academy's middle school division while Jiang Chen had yet to awaken his own ability. 2

During the S-Class demonic-beast attack on Sacred Heart Academy, Jiang Chen rushed to the infirmary to find her. Xiao Lan later recalled only going to the infirmary before losing all memory of what followed. 3 235

Rescue and return

After Sode no Shirayuki reached her complete form and Jiang Chen defeated the Ice Queen, he awakened Xiao Lan by repeatedly speaking to her at the coffin. She recognized him immediately and returned home with him. 235

Upon returning to Imperial Central Academy, Xiao Lan joined Jiang Chen, Zhang Banxian, and Fatty Wang’s five-person team as its required junior student. She was initially left alone because other students considered her healing ability insufficient for combat. 236

Dark-entity incident

Xiao Lan later encountered Black Xiao Lan, a dark mirror-image who claimed they were one being and offered power in exchange for acceptance. Xiao Lan rejected the offer despite wanting strength to protect Jiang Chen. 241 242

Jiang Chen entered her inner world and purified the dark entity with Elimination. Although the entity vanished, Omniscience warned that the darkness in Xiao Lan’s heart could allow it to return.
