Background and History

Mu En inherited Shrek Academy’s leadership after breaking through to Limit Douluo. His predecessor entrusted him with protecting the academy and finding a way forward for an institution that had become stagnant; under Mu En, Shrek began opening itself through measures such as establishing a Soul Tool Academy. 198

As “Old Mu,” he acted as Shrek’s senior guardian and adviser, guiding Xuan Zi and Fan Yu while maintaining enough influence to summon Long Xiaoyao as a contingency against Di Tian. 5 14 He initially regarded Chen Fu’s ambitions with caution, but ultimately accepted cooperation rather than oppose him, prioritizing Shrek’s survival. 35

Mu En became the first executor of Chen Fu’s Ascension project. The procedure used ring-orbit force fields, Ark Energy Cores, Soul Bones, and Melting Rings to force a qualitative transformation in his body and Soul Power. 36 37 It made him a Demigod, but Sea God divine-power pollution gradually changed his body, mentality, and faith. 45 48

Tang San’s interference during Mu En’s ascent led him into the Abyssal Sea’s influence. Mu En became the Kraken, fought Tang San’s Sea God incarnation, lost control of his mutation, and was eventually sealed inside a specialized metal canister to prevent further collapse. 58 60 62

Chen Fu later attempted to save him by fusing him with an Abyssal Sea Demon Emperor Octopus embryo. Mu En resisted an abyssal will from within his sealed White Jade Dragon Pill, burning his soul origin to keep it from taking his body. 196 198 The eventual fusion transformed his Martial Soul into Xiang Liu, restored his youth, and granted him an alternative path to godhood. 202 217

Mu En originally appeared as an elderly, white-robed man with a withered body. Following his reconstruction, he regained a youthful, exceptionally beautiful appearance that is frequently mistaken for female. 58 202 248

Mu En is calm, stern, and highly pragmatic. His decision to cooperate with Chen Fu stems less from submission than from a willingness to accept difficult compromises for Shrek’s protection. 35 36 He later recognizes Shrek’s failures and regrets his past judgment of Xuan Zi, concluding that wisdom matters more than brute strength. 54

He is protective toward those he considers his own. He personally returns Mo Ling to Chen Fu, intervenes to save Long Xiaoyao from Shupros, and remains a stabilizing presence in Star Dou despite being repeatedly treated as a weapon. 48 196 253 In contrast, he is cold and intimidating toward enemies, especially those who attempt to claim resources or authority through arrogance. 308

His transformation leaves him more emotionally detached, but not indifferent. He eventually lets go of his former attachment to Ye Xishui, recognizing that it had become closer to guilt than love. 205 He also retains a petty streak, particularly where Long Xiaoyao’s personal life is concerned. 315
