Background / History
Xue Qingxi was the Third Prince of Barak and the favored son of King Xue Yang. His Lanner Falcon Martial Soul matched his father's, making him a natural focal point in the royal succession; Tang Ling warned that this inheritance and his position among multiple adult brothers made him a target for removal or assassination 14 17.
After his Martial Soul awakening, Tang Ling approached him with a political alliance. She considered him more suitable than Xue He for reform because he was emotionally intelligent, meticulous, pragmatic, and possessed both the ambition and political capital to compete for power. Qingxi accepted her judgment and committed himself to the struggle 15 16.
He left Barak City with Tang Ling and Tang San to study at Notting Junior Soul Master Academy. There, he became Tang Ling's student, gained his first Soul Ring, and began learning swordsmanship as protection against the assassinations he expected as a prince 17 21 22.
Tang Ling later publicly identified Qingxi as the personally taught disciple selected by both her and the Heavenly Dao. His intended role was to lead top-down reform against entrenched class structures 51 58.
At eighteen, Xue Yang abdicated in Qingxi's favor. Qingxi succeeded as emperor of the Barak Empire, received direct instruction from his father, and began applying Tang Ling's political teachings in government and war 97 112. He later ruled the unified Douluo Empire, married Ning Rongrong, eventually abdicated, and ascended to the God Realm 119 121.
Appearance
Xue Qingxi normally has short golden hair. During his Lanner Falcon Martial Soul manifestation, his hair becomes long and gray, feathers grow behind his ears, and a large falcon phantom appears behind him as he levitates 14.
- Golden short hair in his ordinary state 14
- Long gray hair and ear-feathers during Martial Soul manifestation 14
- Capable of hovering and aerial movement while using the Lanner Falcon 14 26
- As emperor, wore an open-sleeved red robe embroidered with a gold-threaded Soaring Falcon 108
Personality
Qingxi is lively, curious, and sociable. He enjoys teasing Tang San, sharing stories, watching excitement, and learning about unfamiliar martial arts or techniques 19 20 23 36. He is also notably fastidious, reacting with disgust to being covered in swamp mud despite enduring the training 33.
Beneath his playful behavior, Qingxi is politically aware and realistic. He understands that his royal status prevents him from living peacefully, accepts the burden of succession, and seeks practical means to survive threats—including swordsmanship as an “ace in the hole” 15 22.
As emperor, he develops a balance between friendliness and authority. Tang Ling specifically praises his ability to apply both qualities during negotiations, while Tang San notes his growing use of imperial methods 108 112.
Abilities & Skills
Lanner Falcon Martial Soul
Qingxi's inherited Martial Soul grants aerial mobility and forms the basis of his defensive and wind-based Soul Skills 14 18.
- Can fly and swoop through the air; he used it to catch Tang San and slow their fall from a cafeteria window 18 26
- Possesses strong archery capability but comparatively weak inherent defense before acquiring Soul Skills 18
- Its manifestation changes his hair and produces falcon-like features 14
Golden Body Armor
Qingxi's first Soul Skill was gained from a Long-Armed Ape Soul Ring 19 21.
- Turns his skin gold and produces a metallic resilience 21
- Provides physical protection against direct attacks 21
- Enhances his offensive force as well as defense; he could trade blows with a fifty-year Long-Armed Ape, though the exchange still injured him 21
Wind Blade Pursuit
Qingxi's second Soul Skill releases multiple gray wind blades while airborne 50.
- Launches several wind blades toward a designated target 50
- Used in coordinated sparring with Tang San and Ning Rongrong 50
Soft Swordsmanship
Tang Ling accepted Qingxi as a sword student after he explained that he wanted a reliable method of self-defense against future assassinations 22.
- Uses a soft sword style distinguished by deceptive, unexpected attacks rather than obvious destructive force 36
- Studied sword techniques alongside Tang San and competed with him in training 22
- Repeatedly expresses admiration for Tang Ling's principle that “one sword can break ten thousand techniques” 21 36
Political Leadership
Qingxi was deliberately trained to govern and carry forward Tang Ling's reform agenda 58 100.
- Managed part of the Great Tang Merchant Guild's government affairs while still young 83
- Led Barak's army during the war against Star Luo and ordered relief porridge distributed to Aojia City's civilians after its capture 110 112
- Negotiated with Dai Mubai using both diplomatic warmth and imperial pressure 108
- Worked with Prime Minister Wei to standardize laws across the unified empire 121

Relationships
- Tang Ling — Master and personally taught disciple. Tang Ling selected Qingxi as her political successor, trained him in cultivation and governance, and remained closely involved in his future 15 51 100.
- Tang San — Close friend and fellow disciple. The two train, compete, tease one another, and later serve together in Barak's leadership and military campaigns 20 22 112.
- Ning Rongrong — Childhood sweetheart, later wife and empress. They supported their relationship despite their fathers' objections and married in October 40 55 119.

- Xue He — Older brother. Qingxi discusses Tang San's talents with him and is contrasted with him as the more politically suitable choice for Tang Ling's plans 15 16.
- Xue Luan — Younger brother. Qingxi disapproved of Xue Luan imitating Tang San's mannerisms and approaching Tang Ling 15.
- Dai Mubai — Political counterpart and ally. Qingxi accepted Dai Mubai's Star Luo defense map in exchange for assistance rescuing Dai Yue 108.
