Background

Ryūban was an independent Uchiha deeply devoted to his younger brother, Uchiha Kojiro. When Kumogakure ninja killed Kojiro during an operation connected to research on the Sharingan and other bloodline limits, Ryūban witnessed the death firsthand and awakened his Mangekyō Sharingan in grief and rage. He swore revenge on Kojiro's killer, Sawai, and later learned that someone in Konoha had supplied Kumogakure with intelligence on Uchiha targets. 141 142

Uchiha Madara recruited Ryūban by presenting the Moon Eye Plan: collecting the Tailed Beasts, reviving the Ten-Tails, and casting Infinite Tsukuyomi to create a peaceful world within genjutsu. Ryūban accepted the plan, believing it offered a path to permanent peace, while retaining freedom to alter its execution. 143 145

Personality

Kojiro's death defined Ryūban's early actions. His grief became an obsessive drive for revenge against Kumogakure and Shimura Danzō, whom he held responsible for the circumstances surrounding the attack. 142 150 153

He was ambitious and initially overconfident in the potential of his Mangekyō dōjutsu. His defeat against Minato and Hyuga Ritsu forced him to acknowledge that raw power and copied techniques were insufficient against coordinated elite opponents; afterward, he became more patient, prioritizing the accumulation of chakra samples and powerful replicas. 149 150

Despite his ruthlessness, Ryūban distinguished between useful targets and meaningless killing. After killing Rasa and witnessing the Sand ninja's bonds, he withdrew from Sunagakure and explained that he only wished to target strong opponents capable of strengthening his dōjutsu. 184
