Kate's arrival made Floris Hospital's already difficult situation, caught between Sean's True Formula labyrinth and Elvily's furious breakthrough to Rank 6, even worse.
When Zajik heard Kate's enraged roar, he was momentarily stunned.
He didn't understand.
While his sneak attack was certainly provocative, he hadn't actually injured Elvily.
He had only injured some young man who appeared out of nowhere. Was that enough for Elvily to forcibly break through her rank?
The Light Servant Kate had also arrived, seemingly for this young man as well.
So... what exactly had he provoked to make two Rank 5 Wizards so furious?
Most importantly, this wasn't something he had intended to provoke.
Wiping out a Rank 5 Wizard wasn't easy. A single mistake could let them escape, or even turn the tables. In such a high-stakes situation, how could he possibly add more trouble?
Kate claimed he was plotting against his brother.
But the problem was, he didn't even know who Kate's brother was. Sean had appeared suddenly and insisted on blocking that attack for Elvily. Could he be blamed for that?
What did this have to do with him!
This was clearly a damn frame-up!
Zajik felt wronged!
He was so close to succeeding, only to have this precious item appear midway, turning all his patience and planning over the past period into nothing.
Zajik wasn't afraid of Elvily alone. Facing Kate as well, he could still manage – this wasn't to say his personal strength was that great, but Wizards below Rank 7 Archmage had relatively limited Magic. Numbers could compensate for the gap between them to some extent.
Tonight, Floris Hospital had hundreds of orderlies, all transferred from the main hospital. Even combined, they couldn't kill a Rank 5 Wizard, but they could at least stall them, preventing them from attending to anything else. Holkodo was his territory, and the longer the time dragged on, the greater their advantage. They could wear down Elvily and the others here.
Everything had been going smoothly until this man appeared.
Being so heavily injured by his puppets indicated Sean's rank wouldn't be too high, yet he could cast such a large-scale spell, trapping all his subordinates.
And this spell was a damn math problem!
Zajik really wanted to curse.
If these orderlies were truly that cultured, would they still be orderlies??
Zajik was also deeply shaken by this labyrinth that defied understanding, but beyond the shock, he felt more annoyed. He didn't have time to ponder why the spell took this form; he only knew that numbers were his biggest advantage tonight, and that advantage had been nullified by Sean, who had inexplicably rushed to the hospital.
Fortunately, he had contingency plans and had prepared for the worst.
While transferring personnel from headquarters, all important items within the hospital had also been moved out.
Zajik had no lingering worries.
He had only one thought at the moment – escape!
Minimize losses as much as possible.
But since he had come, it wouldn't be so easy to leave.
Regarding the True Formula, regarding Quill, regarding Kate... Iris had many questions for Sean, but she knew now wasn't the time. She had doubted Sean before, but Sean had proven everything with his actions. All she needed to do now was take advantage of Sean's control over the orderlies and go on a killing spree to avenge her fallen comrades!
"Kill!"
A fierce light flashed in Iris's eyes, her aura surging. She transformed into a bolt of lightning, leaving a thick arc of electricity on the ground, instantly piercing through several orderlies. She freed them from the sea of problems, crackling with electricity, their skin blackened as they fell.
Even Isha, who looked frail enough to be knocked over by a finger, charged into the labyrinth, displaying a ferocity completely unsuited to her loli appearance.
Her weapon was her "hands." Under the enhancement of curses, her skin turned a sickly white, her teeth sharpened like those of a juvenile vampire. Her entire right hand transformed into a giant bat, its fangs bared. Each bite turned an orderly into a standing, headless corpse.
Sean couldn't help but twitch his eyes at the sight.
So ruthless.
"Damn it, kill these bastards!"
The other Wizards Elvily and her group had brought with them, now that their enemies were trapped by the True Formula labyrinth, finally had a chance to breathe and began their counterattack.
Many of their people had already died, leaving less than half of the original number. They were no match for the orderlies in terms of numbers, but the enemies bound by the True Formula had lost their ability to resist – at least until Sean was exhausted, they wouldn't be able to fight back. This wasn't a chaotic free-for-all, but a one-sided slaughter.
The Wizards swarmed into the labyrinth like wolves into a flock of sheep.
The situation had completely reversed at this moment.
Vice Dean Zajik couldn't escape either.
A beam of light shone upon him, making him the focus in the darkness.
Given Zajik's rank, he wouldn't be vaporized by a beam of light like those police officers, but that didn't matter. The effect of this light wasn't just to clear away weak dust; it had an effect akin to a domain.
Not only were his enemies dissolving with the light, but Kate himself was too.
Within the light, Kate was invincible.
His movements were impossible to track. He constantly moved within the beam of light, Zajik could only see a shadow darting around him, constantly changing position, and occasionally landing a punch that left him flustered. He couldn't tell where Kate was at all, let alone retaliate.
The punches themselves didn't have much offensive power, but they were extremely insulting.
Zajik knew this was deliberate. Once he showed signs of fatigue, or exposed a weakness out of rage, Kate would immediately unleash his true killing blow and finish him in one strike.
Zajik had no will to fight. Seizing a brief opening in Kate's fierce assault, he managed to escape the light's range, only to run headfirst into Elvily, who was as beautiful as a seraph and just as deadly.
At this moment, the maiden's pupils burned like fire, her wings wreathed in flames that warped the surrounding air with heat. Yet, her voice was as cold as ice, filled with a palpable killing intent.
"No matter where you hide, Zajik, I will find you and send you to hell forever."
The maiden raised her greatsword.
The brilliant flames on the sword turned as red as blood.
Just as Zajik was about to flee, a giant silhouette suddenly appeared behind him, pressing a palm onto his shoulder.
"Did I say you could move?" Kate said coldly.
The sword of blazing fire descended.
Zajik screamed in despair, "No!!!"
"Boom!"
With a deafening roar, Zajik's body exploded. The violent blast surged out like a tsunami of flames, creating a powerful shockwave that engulfed, pulverized, and swallowed him and the main building behind him, painting the night sky crimson.
The Vice Dean was dead.
And with his death, there was no longer any power in this hospital that could stop them.
Elvily, however, had lost the will to continue directing the operation.
She retracted her wings, descended from the air, and headed straight for Sean.
Iris knew Elvily was worried about Sean's injuries. She had intended to tell Elvily that Sean was fine—though it sounded incredible, the guy was indeed tough, and he had even helped them take down the orderlies just now.
But when she turned around, Sean, who had been full of vigor a second ago, suddenly collapsed back onto the ground. His eyes were tightly shut, his brow furrowed, looking unconscious and as if he were desperately enduring some unbearable pain.
Iris: "?"
"I'll leave this place to you."
Elvily handed over command to Iris and Isha, scooped Sean into her arms, and quickly walked out of the hospital. Her hurried footsteps revealed the maiden's anxious state; even Kate, who had rushed over wanting to see how badly Sean was injured, couldn't see him.
He could only ask Iris, "Is it serious?"
Iris watched from afar as Sean seemed to nuzzle into Elvily's embrace. She couldn't help but pause for a moment, then a knowing smile spread across her face. "Who knows?"
"Maybe it's very serious."
