When Kinji Hakari and Kirara Hoshi woke up again, they found themselves back at Jujutsu High, lying in the infirmary.
"You're awake. Congratulations, you're both Grade 2 Sorcerers now."
Shoko Ieiri, wearing a white lab coat, greeted them as she saw them stir.
"Shoko-sensei, is this Jujutsu High? Where's Zenin-sensei?"
Kinji Hakari pushed himself up, still a bit dazed. He only remembered holding out until Zenin-sensei arrived; he didn't know what happened afterward.
"Him? Satoru Gojo took him away."
Somewhere at Jujutsu High, Shinsuke Zenin and Satoru Gojo were chatting.
"You ran into Suguru? Why didn't you bring him back?"
Satoru Gojo asked a question that left Shinsuke Zenin speechless.
"Are you serious? He's a Special Grade Sorcerer. Besides, you yourself can't bring yourself to lay a hand on your good friend, can you?"
"Don't think I don't know what you're thinking."
Shinsuke Zenin looked at Satoru Gojo as if he were a cunning fox.
"Oh, let's drop this topic. Let's talk about those two boys instead. You're their teacher, yet you let your students get this badly injured. That's a dereliction of duty, you know. They'll dock your pay."
Satoru Gojo wore a faint smile.
He had scammed so much money from this guy; he couldn't just take the money and do nothing, could he?
"First of all, they aren't dead. Second, that kid Kinji Hakari mastered Domain Expansion during this mission."
Shouldn't he get a bonus for his students' great progress?
"Domain Expansion? Are you sure?"
Satoru Gojo became a little more serious. He knew Kinji Hakari's Cursed Technique had a gambler's attribute, combined with modern science. It was the type of Cursed Technique the conservative higher-ups hated the most.
However, he quite liked these strange and unusual Cursed Techniques.
"Is this kid that talented?"
A sorcerer who could manifest a Domain Expansion was at least a Grade 1 Sorcerer, and an extremely strong one at that.
"It's just a half-finished product. Take some time to guide him properly. Stop focusing on your good friend all day. You'll be able to see him soon enough."
"What do you mean?" Satoru Gojo looked at Shinsuke Zenin, his eyes serious.
"Exactly what I said."
Shinsuke Zenin smiled, not giving Satoru Gojo any spoilers.
"I'm leaving. I need to go home for dinner."
Ignoring Satoru Gojo, who had fallen into thought, he turned and left.
Satoru Gojo watched his retreating back, his brow furrowed. "This guy is really annoying."
He hated riddle-makers and people who only spoke half the story the most.
The next six months passed in a flash. Kinji Hakari and Kirara Hoshi were successfully promoted to the second year.
After several missions and guidance from Satoru Gojo, Kinji Hakari gradually mastered Domain Expansion. With the recommendation of two Grade 1 Sorcerers, Shinsuke Zenin and Riko Amanai, he became a Grade 1 Sorcerer.
Kirara Hoshi was a bit behind, but it was highly likely he would reach Quasi-Grade 1 before graduation.
In those six months, the pure love warrior Yuta Okkotsu came to the attention of the higher-ups due to being bullied at school.
The Jujutsu World's higher-ups, due to the unstable factor of the Queen of Curses Rika, directly issued an order to designate Yuta Okkotsu for execution.
And the task of carrying out the execution fell to Shinsuke Zenin.
The reason it fell to him had to do with his attitude towards Cursed Spirits over the years.
The two people the higher-ups found most troublesome were Satoru Gojo, who was unreasonable and powerful, and acted ostentatiously, earning him no favor from the higher-ups.
The other was Shinsuke Zenin. If Satoru Gojo was unreasonable, then Shinsuke Zenin was purely headstrong, completely ignoring the higher-ups' orders except when it concerned Cursed Spirits.
However, after the higher-ups somehow got wind of news that Shinsuke Zenin and Yuki Tsukumo were involved, their impression of him slightly improved.
If his girlfriend was like that, then Shinsuke Zenin was merely disobedient.
This mission fell to him entirely because the higher-ups were banking on his fondness for Cursed Spirits.
Even for a Special Grade Vengeful Spirit, the higher-ups felt confident entrusting the extermination mission to him.
Although they questioned Shinsuke Zenin's attitude, personality, and even his character, they never doubted his strength. He definitely possessed the power to exorcise Special Grade Cursed Spirits.
If it weren't for the fact that he only excelled in hand-to-hand combat and lacked wide-ranging attack techniques, the higher-ups would have considered promoting him to Special Grade.
The criteria for Special Grade weren't just the ability to exorcise Special Grade Curses, but more importantly, the capacity to wipe out a nation.
At the school entrance, Shinsuke Zenin leaned against the wall, waiting for his target to appear.
He hadn't expected the higher-ups to send him to kill Okkotsu. This must be the so-called butterfly effect.
The dismissal bell rang, and students poured out of the campus like a flood.
Several days had passed since Yuta Okkotsu had killed those bullies. The school was operating normally, and it was likely that besides the teachers and students, few people knew about the incident.
Yuta Okkotsu's figure appeared in Shinsuke Zenin's line of sight. He looked dejected and timid, his appearance alone marking him as someone frequently bullied.
The students around him kept at least three meters away, seemingly afraid of him.
After all, the guys who used to bully him had gotten into trouble, so they didn't dare to lay a hand on him anymore.
"Kid, come with me for a bit. Someone paid to have you killed."
Shinsuke Zenin blocked Yuta's path, looking down at him.
When the surrounding students saw Shinsuke Zenin, they moved even farther away, afraid of provoking this delinquent uncle.
Yuta stopped in his tracks and looked up blankly at the unfamiliar face. There was no fear in his eyes. "Is it because of what happened to them?"
"Of course. Murder is punishable by death."
A smile spread across Shinsuke Zenin's face.
"Yuta... No one can hurt Yuta!"
An extremely terrifying surge of cursed energy erupted behind Yuta. Rika tore open a rift, trying to crawl out and tear Shinsuke Zenin to shreds.
"Rika, don't be rash!"
Yuta quickly comforted Rika. He didn't want to kill any more people.
"Tsk tsk, what a powerful cursed spirit."
Shinsuke Zenin, sensing the aura Rika emitted, couldn't help but exclaim.
No wonder Satoru Gojo considered Rika troublesome, and Suguru Geto had fallen victim to this cursed spirit.
It seemed the curse of love was indeed extraordinary.
"Don't get so worked up. While murder is punishable by death, killing beasts isn't. Come with me."
Shinsuke Zenin didn't tease Yuta further. If he continued, Rika would likely go berserk.
Yuta didn't speak, merely following silently behind Shinsuke Zenin.
He didn't know what awaited him, but eventually, there had to be an explanation for what had happened to him.
Along the way, Shinsuke Zenin observed the future Special Grade Sorcerer, clicking his tongue inwardly.
Talent was truly disheartening.
Just because he was a descendant of one of the three great vengeful spirits, just because he was related to Satoru Gojo, he could obtain a Queen of Curses with a casual curse, without even trying.
With a bit of effort, he could easily become a Special Grade Sorcerer.
Meanwhile, the Maki and Maki sisters worked themselves to the bone, yet their highest peak was only Grade 1, not even reaching his starting point.
Thinking this, Shinsuke Zenin decided he would properly train Maki, at least to the level of being able to exorcise Special Grade Cursed Spirits.
As for Maki... she could just lie down and relax. She wasn't aiming to become particularly strong anyway.
