Background / History

Nawaki is a Senju Clan descendant and Tsunade's only brother. During his Academy years, he was regarded as his class's practical-combat genius: his Chakra reserves and combat potential surpassed most peers, though his theoretical performance was less exceptional. His straightforward, reckless approach often leaves openings against more tactical opponents. 6

He trains under Orochimaru and is determined to improve enough to compete with Namikaze Yoru. Their early spars establish a friendly rivalry, though Yoru repeatedly exploits Nawaki's tendency to underestimate traps and unconventional tactics. 6 7

Yoru later infiltrates the Senju compound disguised as a Kaguya Clan assassin, attacks Nawaki, and plants evidence to create the appearance of a foreign assassination attempt. Nawaki reacts quickly with Water Release and briefly resists the intruder, but is caught in an illusion before the attacker escapes. The incident leads to a major Anbu search and Nawaki being placed under house arrest by Tsunade. 11 12 17

Before Nawaki deploys to the Land of Rain, Tsunade entrusts his safety to Yoru. Nawaki joins Team 17 alongside Aburame Shibi under Hyuga Teruki, surviving the Five-Tails incident despite being at its epicenter; Yoru had temporarily pawned and later redeemed him and Shibi to escape. 23 25 30 31

Rivalry with Namikaze Yoru

Nawaki challenges Yoru after training under Orochimaru, opening with Water Turbulent Wave. Yoru ends the spar with a fake Explosive Tag, teaching Nawaki that ninja battles are decided by deception as much as strength. 7

Nawaki later tries to reuse the fake tag against Tsunade, only for her Hundred Healings Jutsu to neutralize the trick before she defeats him. Witnessing Yoru spar Tsunade afterward forces Nawaki to recognize how much strength his friend had concealed. 20

Senju Compound Assassination Attempt

While relaxing at home, Nawaki is targeted by Yoru's disguised persona. He responds with Water Release, catches a kunai, and identifies the attacker's Bone Spikes as a Kaguya Clan ability, but is briefly trapped by the Fox Heart Illusion Technique. 11

The apparent assassination creates a village-wide security crisis and results in Nawaki's house arrest. Unaware that Yoru orchestrated the incident, Nawaki gives him an embellished account of his supposed battle with the assassin. 12 17

Land of Rain Deployment

Nawaki joins Team 17 for a promotion-test mission to the Land of Rain. Tsunade sees him off, while Yoru remains wary of Nawaki's repeated declarations that he will become Hokage. 22 24

Five-Tails Incident

Nawaki and Shibi are caught in the Five-Tails battlefield. Yoru pawns both teammates to gain the means to escape and defeat the tailed beast, then redeems them afterward. Nawaki returns with Team 17 despite the death of their jonin leader, Hyuga Teruki. 30 31

Orochimaru's Training
