Background / History

Corazon is Doflamingo's younger brother and one of the Donquixote Family's highest cadres, holding the codename Red Heart. Despite his position, he secretly serves Navy Headquarters under Fleet Admiral Sengoku, using his role within the Family to report on Doflamingo's movements. 22 43 44

Before Abel and Luo joined, Doflamingo had taken in more than a hundred children. Corazon harshly drove nearly all of them away to keep them from being led astray by the Family; only Baby-5 and Buffalo remained. 22

After Luo and Abel became trainee members, Corazon repeatedly threw Luo out of the base to force him to leave. He ultimately threw Luo out twenty times, but held back because he feared accidentally killing him. 22 25 26

When Luo attempted to stab him, Corazon deliberately avoided a vital injury and later allowed Luo to flee rather than expose him. Doflamingo subsequently promoted Luo and Abel to official members, ending Corazon's ability to drive them away as before. 26 28

Corazon's attitude toward Luo changes after learning Luo's full name. He begins privately encouraging Luo, seeks a cure for his Lead Sickness, prevents him from joining a dangerous operation, and volunteers for the Devil Fruit mission in order to keep him under his protection. 33 43 44 48 49

Personality

Corazon initially presents himself as cold, silent, and hostile toward children. His repeated treatment of Luo is intentionally harsh, meant to push him away from Doflamingo's influence rather than punish him for its own sake. 22 26

Beneath that façade, he is compassionate and protective. He covers up Luo's attempted assassination, comforts him when he doubts his own worth, and promises to search for a doctor capable of treating Lead Sickness. 26 28 44 48

His concern for Luo places him in conflict with Doflamingo's goals. Corazon wants Luo to leave the Donquixote Family and is prepared to forcibly take him somewhere safe if Luo endangers himself during an operation. 49

Corazon repeatedly expels Luo from the Donquixote Family base, provoking Luo into hostility and an eventual assassination attempt. He survives the stabbing by avoiding a vital area and allows Luo to escape. 22 23 25 26

Luo and Abel's Formal Recruitment

Doflamingo makes Luo and Abel official Family members, preventing Corazon from continuing his extreme attempts to force them out. Corazon resigns himself to letting them remain, believing they have little time left due to Lead Sickness. 28

Protecting Luo

After taking Luo away upon learning his full name, Corazon becomes noticeably more concerned for him. He keeps Luo out of the retaliatory mission against the Navy, privately reveals his ability to speak, and offers emotional support when Luo feels inferior to Abel and the other trainees. 33 43 48

Devil Fruit Mission

When the Family moves to seize an unknown Devil Fruit, Corazon unexpectedly volunteers for the operation. He makes Luo promise to remain within his sight during the mission and considers using Abel as a means to help take Luo away from Doflamingo. 49
