Ch. 321Taking a Disciple

Key plot points and events

  • After finishing his father’s task, Shikamaru relaxes while Wu Yu wanders by a stream with Hanabi Hyuga. He gives Hanabi a lively rabbit made from Sage Power, Jade Rabbit, and encourages her to enjoy school rather than graduate early.
  • Naruto and Kiba’s wind-based prank drenches the girls. Sakura retaliates by striking Naruto’s wind form with Senjutsu-enhanced strength, while Choji protects the food.
  • Kiba proposes a group combat ranking. Wu Yu swiftly binds the gathered ninja with Wood Release infused with Brand Power, demonstrating how completely he can suppress and control their chakra.
  • Wu Yu has Kiba and Rock Lee fight Shiho. Though they underestimate her, she defeats Kiba and holds her own against Lee, revealing her newly formidable Sage-based abilities.
  • Seeing Hanabi’s envy of the others’ powers, Wu Yu brands her forehead and begins helping her adapt to Brand Power. Jade Rabbit soothes her pain, and Hanabi realizes Wu Yu has accepted her as a student. Her aptitude lets the power settle unusually quickly.
  • Wu Yu leaves the group with Karin and Right Mysterious Minato. With Karin lending chakra, Minato senses a distant Flying Thunder God mark; Wu Yu and Karin accompany him as he teleports toward it.

  • Hanabi moves from quiet curiosity and envy to joy and trust as Wu Yu takes her on as a disciple.
  • Shiho discovers the extent of her own strength, surprising herself as well as the others.
  • Neji acts as an informed guide for Hanabi, explaining how Sage techniques work, but recognizes he cannot help her achieve the same breakthrough himself.
  • Naruto, Kiba, and Lee remain eager to prove themselves, though Wu Yu’s intervention and Shiho’s performance expose how far Sage-trained fighters surpass ordinary competition.
  • Wu Yu shows a deliberate, understated approach to teaching: he offers power when someone seeks it, rather than handing it out indiscriminately.

  • Kiba and Lee challenge Shiho, only to be humbled by her abilities.
  • Karin jokes with Wu Yu, then transfers chakra to Minato so he can reach the distant mark.

Ch. 322Life-Saving Hairs

Chapter Summary: “Life-Saving Hairs”

Plot Points and Events

  • Wu Yu, accompanied by Karin and Right Mysterious Minato, teleports to Mount Huaguo, a remote volcanic island associated with the Four-Tails, Son Goku.
  • The extreme distance and the need to transport three people exhaust Minato’s Chakra. Karin’s Chakra helps sustain the teleportation, but Minato disappears from exhaustion after leaving behind the Flying Thunder God kunai.
  • Wu Yu and Karin explore the island, discovering that it is an active volcano with no significant animal population. Wu Yu explains the island’s connection to the Four-Tails and its similarity to the legendary Mount Huaguo.
  • At the volcano, they find a lava waterfall concealing the Water-Curtain Cave. Using Nature Integration and their connected Chakra, Wu Yu and Karin pass safely through the lava.
  • Inside the cave, they find a vast, brightly lit underground sanctuary filled with strange rocks, flowers, and plants. A multicolored stone in the ceiling provides the illumination.
  • Wu Yu discovers inscriptions left by the Four-Tails proclaiming the Water-Curtain Cave and the “Monkey King Great Sage Equal to Heaven.” He adds “Victorious Fighting Buddha” beneath them using Lava Release.
  • Mysterious Kaguya destroys the cave’s large stone throne, revealing three strands of concentrated Four-Tails Chakra hidden inside.
  • Wu Yu and Kaguya determine that these are “Life-Saving Hairs”: emergency reserves capable of regenerating into a new incarnation of Four-Tails Son Goku if its main body remains trapped or is destroyed.
  • The chapter ends with Wu Yu and Karin sitting beside the volcanic crater. Karin openly confesses her feelings and challenges Wu Yu over his apparent relationship with Tsunade, asking whether he intends to have both women.

Character Developments

  • Wu Yu: Demonstrates his expanding abilities, including long-distance travel, Nature Integration, Lava Release, and the capacity to connect his power with Karin’s Chakra. He becomes increasingly interested in the strategic implications of the Four-Tails’ hidden resurrection reserves.
  • Karin: Shows greater confidence and intimacy with Wu Yu. She playfully uses her Hydrification Technique during their flight, enjoys exploring the cave with him, and finally expresses her romantic feelings directly. Her jealousy toward Tsunade becomes explicit.
  • Right Mysterious Minato: His immense teleportation ability is emphasized, but the journey pushes him beyond his Chakra limits, causing him to vanish from exhaustion.
  • Mysterious Kaguya: Remains detached and mysterious but proves observant and practical. Her destruction of the throne reveals the hidden Chakra reserves, showing her value as an investigator and her continuing interest in Wu Yu’s activities.
  • Four-Tails Son Goku: Though absent, its personality and foresight are revealed. It had prepared multiple means of resurrection in case it was sealed or absorbed by the God Tree, showing distrust of prophecy and a strong instinct for self-preservation.

Significant Themes

  • Survival and preparedness: The Life-Saving Hairs represent the Four-Tails’ refusal to leave its fate to chance or prophecy.
  • Prophecy versus free will: Wu Yu reflects on the prophecy of a blond, blue-eyed savior, questioning whether the prophecy truly promises the survival of the Tailed Beasts.
  • Myth and reality: The legendary Water-Curtain Cave and Mount Huaguo are reimagined through the Shinobi World’s volcanic landscape and Tailed Beast lore.
  • Power and connection: Wu Yu and Karin’s combined Chakra illustrates both literal cooperation and their growing emotional closeness.
  • Romantic tension and jealousy: Karin’s confession and confrontation with Wu Yu introduce a more direct love-triangle conflict involving Tsunade.

Character Interactions

  • Their cooperative use of Nature Integration creates both a powerful combat/travel partnership and a playful, intimate dynamic.
  • Karin becomes embarrassed when Wu Yu calls the isolated cave an ideal place for a date, revealing her romantic interest.
  • Mysterious Kaguya’s sudden appearances unsettle Karin, who finds her ghostlike presence frightening.
  • Kaguya and Wu Yu work together to interpret the hidden Chakra strands.
  • The final conversation between Wu Yu and Karin shifts from playful banter to a serious romantic confrontation about Tsunade and whether Wu Yu intends to pursue both women.

Ch. 323Birthday (4k)

Chapter Summary: “Birthday”

1. Key Plot Points and Events

  • Wu Yu and Karin discuss their relationship with Tsunade. Karin worries that Wu Yu may ultimately choose Tsunade over her, but Wu Yu admits that he cannot abandon either woman. Karin is reassured that Tsunade appears to tolerate—and perhaps accept—their closeness.
  • After the volcanic activity at Mount Huaguo subsides, Wu Yu, Karin, and Right Mysterious Minato return to Konoha using Naruto’s Flying Thunder God seal as a teleportation anchor.
  • The group’s informal ranking match has ended:
    • Sasuke defeats Naruto by using his Cursed Seal power.
    • Sasuke and Naruto occupy the highest tier.
    • Neji, Hinata, Sakura, and Shiho rank as half-Sages.
    • The remaining classmates are conventional mortal-level ninja.
  • Karin claims she is roughly on Naruto and Sasuke’s level, possibly slightly stronger. When challenged, she demonstrates her Sage Mode, advanced Brand Power, and Adamantine Sealing Chains, overwhelming the others.
  • Wu Yu checks on Hanabi Hyuga, who has remained unconscious after receiving a gray brand between her brows. The brand has merged with her Byakugan and begun transforming it.
  • Hanabi awakens with altered gray eyes and discovers that she can instinctively reproduce other people’s techniques and chakra manifestations. She copies:
    • Naruto’s Chain Curse Mark,
    • Sasuke’s Susanoo,
    • Neji’s Flying Bird ocular technique,
    • Karin’s Wood Release-like technique through the Lesser Formless Sage Art.
  • The following day, Tsunade returns from work and learns that Hanabi’s evolved Byakugan can use Brand Power to imitate powerful abilities. She is impressed but concerned about the political and security consequences, particularly the possibility of Hyuga branch members breaking free from the Caged Bird seal.
  • Tsunade and Wu Yu discuss whether more Hyuga should receive brands. They then separate to obtain groceries and a custom gift before reuniting at home.
  • Tsunade uses Shadow Clones to prepare dinner while Wu Yu presents his gift. After bathing, she adopts a younger appearance through her powers and playfully tells Wu Yu that her seventeen-year-old self belongs only to him.

2. Character Developments

  • Wu Yu becomes more openly committed to both Karin and Tsunade, refusing to treat Karin as temporary or secondary. He also takes responsibility for Hanabi’s development as her teacher.
  • Karin moves from insecurity and fear of abandonment toward confidence. Her joking arrogance during the ranking discussion reflects her growing strength and her comfort with Wu Yu and Tsunade’s arrangement.
  • Tsunade demonstrates acceptance of Karin’s relationship with Wu Yu, though she remains cautious about distributing Brand Power. Her responsibilities as Hokage temper her personal desires to strengthen the Hyuga Clan.
  • Hanabi undergoes a dramatic transformation. Formerly a young Hyuga dependent on others, she awakens with an extraordinary ocular ability that may surpass ordinary Byakugan techniques.
  • Naruto and Sasuke continue their rivalry. Sasuke’s use of his Cursed Seal gives him victory, while Naruto protests that the tactic was unfair.
  • Hinata acts protectively toward Hanabi, nursing her throughout her unconsciousness and carefully monitoring her condition.
  • Neji becomes one of the first to recognize the implications of Hanabi’s power, especially its ability to reproduce ocular techniques.

3. Significant Themes

  • Love, acceptance, and unconventional relationships: Wu Yu, Karin, and Tsunade negotiate a relationship outside traditional expectations. Karin’s fear of rejection is eased by Tsunade’s apparent tolerance.
  • Power and responsibility: Brand Power can evolve bloodlines, reproduce techniques, and alter the balance of power. The characters must consider not only its benefits but also the danger of misuse.
  • Inheritance and transformation: Hanabi’s Byakugan evolves through Wu Yu’s brand, suggesting that inherited abilities can be radically reshaped by outside power.
  • Identity and uniqueness: Tsunade feels conflicted as Wood Release, once the exclusive hallmark of her grandfather, becomes increasingly common through Brand Power.
  • Freedom versus control: The possibility that branded Hyuga members could overcome the Caged Bird seal raises questions about clan authority, oppression, and personal freedom.
  • Youth and nostalgia: Tsunade’s transformed youthful appearance and her reference to her seventeen-year-old self connect her current relationship with Wu Yu to an idealized version of her past.

4. Character Interactions

  • Wu Yu and Karin openly discuss their mutual attraction and her place beside Tsunade, mixing emotional reassurance with playful teasing.
  • Karin and the other young ninja interact competitively after the ranking match, with Karin’s confidence provoking silent disbelief and renewed interest from Sasuke.
  • Hinata, Neji, and Wu Yu care for Hanabi after her transformation, while Jade Rabbit helps monitor the brand’s effects.
  • Hanabi’s newly awakened eyes interact directly with Naruto’s, Sasuke’s, and Neji’s techniques, revealing her ability to copy or reconstruct them.
  • Karin tests Hanabi by demonstrating Wood Release, leading to a display of two competing forests.
  • Tsunade and Wu Yu combine flirtation with serious discussion about the dangers of branding the Hyuga Clan. Their intimate exchange concludes the chapter, emphasizing both their romantic bond and Tsunade’s playful return to youth.

Ch. 324Gifts (4k)

Chapter Summary

1. Key Plot Points and Events

  • Wu Yu returns with a gift for Tsunade: Fang Yao’s red Fangling Set, a revealing garment. Tsunade teases him but agrees to wear it, and the two spend a playful, intimate evening together.
  • The following morning, Wu Yu gives Tsunade a more significant gift: three Life-Saving Hairs containing the chakra of Son Goku, the Four-Tails. He proposes sealing one into the Bagua Furnace to continue the Sage of Six Paths’ unfinished attempt to refine Nature Energy or create immortal-pill-level products.
  • Tsunade suggests that Minato, Kushina, and Mysterious Kaguya could provide the sealing expertise necessary for the experiment. Haotu, eager to become stronger, complains internally about being left out.
  • Meanwhile, Itachi has undergone a permanent facial reconstruction by Tsunade and now lives under the identity Izumi Shinichi. With a new face, altered chakra, and a new Anbu identity granted by Tsunade, he can move through Konoha without being recognized.
  • Sasuke visits Izumi in the hospital and takes him to Tushita Palace, a hidden facility beneath Hokage Rock. There, Tsunade, Danzō, Shikaku Nara, and Choza Akimichi are discussing the production and classification of Nine-Turn Bear-Snake Pills.
  • Tsunade orders Izumi to test a high-grade pill, hoping to improve his weak physical reserves and thereby strengthen the combat potential of Wu Yu’s projected Mysterious Clone.
  • The chapter ends by shifting back to Mount Huaguo, where Wu Yu and Tsunade continue their intimate time together.

2. Character Developments

  • Wu Yu and Tsunade: Their relationship becomes increasingly affectionate, comfortable, and intimate. Their teasing and domestic conversation show that they share emotional peace as well as physical attraction.
  • Tsunade: She demonstrates both playful confidence in private and decisive authority as Hokage and medical expert. She is also pursuing increasingly ambitious uses for the Bagua Furnace and medicinal pills.
  • Itachi/Izumi Shinichi: He receives a literal new identity through Tsunade’s advanced medical techniques. His transformation allows him to escape his former reputation and begin functioning as someone new, though he still carefully observes the people and systems around him.
  • Sasuke: He acts as a link between Itachi’s former life and his new identity, being one of the few people who knows the truth. His use of Indra’s Cursed Seal has also altered Itachi’s chakra enough to conceal him from former acquaintances.
  • Mysterious Kaguya: She remains an enigmatic, highly capable assistant who can observe events through her Byakugan, though she is awkwardly positioned between Wu Yu and Tsunade’s intimacy.
  • Haotu: Her insecurity and jealousy toward the stronger Jade Rabbit continue, motivating her desire for stronger pills and greater power.

3. Significant Themes

  • Rebirth and identity: Itachi’s transformation into Izumi Shinichi represents a physical and social rebirth, while raising questions about whether changing one’s face and name can truly separate someone from the past.
  • Power through cultivation and technology: The Life-Saving Hairs, Bagua Furnace, sealing techniques, and Nine-Turn Bear-Snake Pills reflect the chapter’s blending of chakra science, medical ninjutsu, and mystical refinement.
  • Intimacy and domestic peace: Wu Yu and Tsunade’s ordinary conversations, joking, gift-giving, and shared meals emphasize emotional companionship alongside their more sensual relationship.
  • Ambition and experimentation: Tsunade and Wu Yu repeatedly seek ways to improve existing systems, including refining Nature Energy and enhancing the strength of allies through pills.
  • Secrecy and transformation: Itachi’s hidden identity, Danzō’s concealed role as furnace keeper, and Sasuke’s suspicion that Tsunade is a clone reinforce the importance of appearances, concealed power, and uncertainty.

4. Character Interactions

  • Wu Yu and Tsunade flirt, exchange gifts, share dinner, reminisce about their pasts, and deepen their romantic bond.
  • Wu Yu and Mysterious Kaguya discuss obtaining the Four-Tails chakra hairs, while Kaguya silently observes the couple’s behavior.
  • Tsunade and Wu Yu debate whether the Four-Tails chakra can be used in the Bagua Furnace to create or refine immortal-level products.
  • Tsunade treats Itachi with remarkable precision, reshaping his face while preserving his awareness and minimizing pain.
  • Sasuke brings Izumi to Tushita Palace, demonstrating his continued trust and connection to his brother.
  • Tsunade consults Shikaku about the effects and production of different grades of chakra-enhancing pills, then personally assigns Izumi a test.
  • Izumi watches Danzō, Shikaku, and Choza carefully, recognizing how thoroughly his former identity has been concealed.

Ch. 325Plan (4k)

Chapter Summary

Key Plot Points and Events

  • Karin, Sakura, and Shiho meet in Konoha for a girls’ outing, later joined by Hinata and Hanabi Hyuga. They travel to Xibuya Town, where they watch a manzai performance, see a movie, shop, and take photos.
  • The chapter establishes the growing importance of Chakra Pills, whose use has greatly reduced the workload of Konoha’s medical ninja. A newer version, developed by medical specialists and the Ino-Shika-Cho clans, may permanently increase a ninja’s chakra reserves, causing various departments to compete for overtime work.
  • Karin explains that she contacted Hanabi through the resonance between their Brand Power rather than using a conventional Mind Secret Technique.
  • Hanabi grows uneasy during the leisurely outing because she is accustomed to strict training. She also questions why Wu Yu gave her a powerful brand and a temporary Jade Rabbit clone.
  • Karin notices that the “Tsunade” in the Hokage’s office is actually a Mysterious Clone, meaning the real Tsunade and Wu Yu have secretly been spending several days together in the Water-Curtain Cave.
  • In the cave, Wu Yu and Tsunade finish their secluded vacation and discuss the Akatsuki’s plans to target Kumogakure’s Two-Tails and Eight-Tails. Wu Yu explains that Black Zetsu intends to create a pretext for Konoha to enter the Land of Lightning, possibly by having White Zetsu impersonate Sasuke and Killer B and stage an incident.
  • Shiho becomes separated from the group while thinking about how Cursed Seal Power and Brand Power might interact. She begins activating both powers simultaneously, but the result is not shown.
  • The apparent Hinata and Hanabi later return to the group, but Karin immediately detects that something is wrong and punches the “Hanabi,” exposing her as a Kumogakure ninja using Transformation Jutsu. The “Hinata” is revealed to be another disguised enemy.
  • Both attackers escape underground after confirming that the real Hinata and Hanabi have been kidnapped.
  • Karin sends an emergency signal to Wu Yu and Tsunade. Wu Yu realizes that Black Zetsu has turned the planned staged incident into an actual kidnapping, creating an immediate crisis between Konoha and Kumogakure.

Character Developments

  • Karin is portrayed as energetic, perceptive, and exceptionally capable. Her sensory abilities allow her to detect Mysterious Clones and see through White Zetsu’s transformations. She also shows affection and concern for Wu Yu, becoming irritated by his unexplained absence.
  • Sakura continues to develop as a highly talented medical ninja and has begun learning the Yin Seal. She is more confident and competent but remains the relatively practical and self-aware member of the group.
  • Shiho shows intellectual curiosity about the relationship between Cursed Seal Power and Brand Power. Her willingness to experiment suggests she may be approaching a significant breakthrough, although she is also temporarily distracted and separated from the others.
  • Hinata remains gentle and observant, understanding Hanabi’s discomfort and quietly suspecting the nature of Wu Yu’s mysterious clones.
  • Hanabi struggles with the idea of relaxing and questions the value and purpose of the brand Wu Yu gave her. Her kidnapping makes her and Hinata central to the emerging political conflict.
  • Tsunade is shown in a private, affectionate relationship with Wu Yu while still maintaining her sense of responsibility as Hokage. She warns him that excessive indulgence can harm the mind and insists that Konoha cannot recklessly attack Kumogakure.
  • Wu Yu demonstrates overwhelming power, strategic thinking, and a playful relationship with Tsunade. However, his confidence is undercut when Black Zetsu acts beyond the agreed plan, forcing him to respond to a real crisis.

Significant Themes

  • Power and utility: Brands, Chakra Pills, Cursed Seals, and Mysterious Clones all represent different forms of power, raising questions about how strength is measured and how individuals are valued for their usefulness.
  • Political manipulation: Black Zetsu seeks to manufacture a justification for war by exploiting old tensions between Konoha and Kumogakure. The chapter emphasizes how easily truth can be replaced by a convincing narrative.
  • Perception versus reality: Mysterious Clones and Transformation Jutsu blur the distinction between genuine people and imitations. Karin’s sensory abilities become crucial in exposing false appearances.
  • Leisure versus duty: The girls’ carefree outing contrasts with the military and political responsibilities awaiting them. Hanabi’s difficulty relaxing highlights how deeply duty and training shape a person’s identity.
  • Intimacy and secrecy: Wu Yu and Tsunade’s hidden retreat reveals their close relationship, while Karin’s awareness of their deception adds humor and tension.
  • Scientific experimentation and transformation: Shiho’s attempt to combine Cursed Seal Power with Brand Power suggests the possibility of creating a new form of chakra or power system.

Character Interactions

  • Karin and Sakura tease each other about their work, abilities, and romantic reactions, reinforcing their close friendship.
  • Karin, Shiho, Sakura, Hinata, and Hanabi bond during the outing, with Karin acting as the energetic organizer.
  • Hanabi confides her doubts about Wu Yu’s brand, prompting the others to reflect on Wu Yu’s motives and expectations.
  • Karin and Sakura discuss Wu Yu’s absence, revealing Karin’s jealousy and concern.
  • Wu Yu and Tsunade share a playful but intimate relationship while debating the limits of Hokage responsibility and the dangers of Black Zetsu’s plan.
  • Karin’s quick recognition of the disguised enemies protects the group from being deceived, but the revelation comes too late to prevent Hinata and Hanabi’s kidnapping.

Ch. 326Third Brother, You Fool! (4k)

Chapter Summary: “Third Brother, You’re Confused”

Key Plot Points and Events

  • Karin, Sakura, and Shiho return to Konoha after discovering that Hinata and Hanabi have been kidnapped and replaced by impostors.
  • Karin blames herself for failing to detect the deception despite her exceptional sensory abilities, while Shiho feels guilty for becoming careless and relying too much on the younger ninja to protect her.
  • The group cannot pursue the kidnappers because:
    • Karin can no longer sense Hinata or Hanabi’s chakra.
    • The disguised enemies escape underground too quickly.
    • They lack reliable information about the kidnappers’ identities or destination.
  • Tsunade and Wu Yu arrive. Wu Yu creates Mysterious Clones of Hinata and Hanabi, allowing the group to question versions of the sisters that possess their memories and chakra-related experiences.
  • The clones reveal that the real Hinata and Hanabi were rendered unconscious shortly after being approached by seemingly ordinary women. Hinata vaguely remembers being attacked and transported, while Hanabi senses that she was carried through a cold, northern region of the Land of Fire.
  • The narrative then reveals how the kidnapping occurred:
    • White Zetsu and Black Zetsu coordinated an elaborate ambush.
    • Black Zetsu immobilized the sisters by possessing them.
    • White Zetsu drained their chakra, copied Hinata’s chakra signature, and transformed into convincing replicas.
    • The impostors separated from Karin and Sakura under the pretense that Hinata and Hanabi needed to go elsewhere.
    • Additional White Zetsu copies disguised themselves as Hinata and Hanabi, while the real sisters were carried away.
  • The deception is designed to make Konoha believe Kumogakure has repeated its earlier crimes, encouraging Konoha to pursue the kidnappers and potentially create chaos in the Land of Lightning.
  • During the escape, Hanabi suddenly awakens and reveals that Gray Mysterious is inside her body. Gray Mysterious transforms part of Hanabi’s body into a monstrous gray form and confronts Black Zetsu.
  • Black Zetsu is shocked to discover Gray Mysterious, whom he calls “Third Brother,” and asks why he is inside Hanabi.
  • Gray Mysterious explains that he placed a cursed seal on Hanabi as one of several backup plans connected to their “Mother,” who is preparing for future events and attempting to manipulate destiny.
  • The chapter ends with Gray Mysterious accusing Black Zetsu of nearly ruining their mother’s plan.

Character Developments

  • Karin becomes more self-critical, believing her failure to detect the impostors caused Hinata and Hanabi’s abduction. Her confidence in her sensory abilities is shaken.
  • Shiho also blames herself, realizing that she unconsciously accepted a passive, protected role despite being the oldest member of the group.
  • Sakura acts as emotional support for Karin but is frustrated by her inability to provide meaningful comfort or immediately solve the crisis.
  • Wu Yu demonstrates the unusual capabilities of his Mysterious Clone technique, using it to reproduce Hinata and Hanabi for investigation.
  • Hinata’s and Hanabi’s clones provide fragmented but valuable information about the kidnapping, especially their sensory impressions of the attack and their journey.
  • Black Zetsu is shown as ruthless, manipulative, and deeply committed to “Mother’s” plans, but he is also confused and vulnerable when confronted by Gray Mysterious.
  • Gray Mysterious emerges as a hidden conspirator with a connection to Hanabi and a broader scheme involving cursed seals, destiny, and preparations for the future.
  • White Zetsu displays impressive infiltration and imitation abilities, but his confidence and pride in the operation are undercut by Gray Mysterious’s sudden intervention.

Significant Themes

  • Guilt and responsibility: Karin and Shiho both struggle with personal blame after the kidnapping, showing how failure affects even capable ninja.
  • Deception and identity: The chapter repeatedly blurs the boundary between the real sisters, Mysterious Clones, White Zetsu copies, and possessed bodies.
  • Surveillance and manipulation: The kidnappers exploit chakra signatures, disguises, false clues, and Konoha’s political assumptions to control how the village reacts.
  • Destiny versus control: Gray Mysterious’s explanation suggests that even powerful beings cannot fully predict fate, leading them to create multiple backup plans.
  • Hidden family and conspiratorial relationships: The revelation that Gray Mysterious calls Black Zetsu “Third Brother” introduces a deeper hierarchy and familial connection among the mysterious entities.
  • The danger of overconfidence: Karin’s reliance on her sensory abilities and White Zetsu’s pride in their disguises both contribute to mistaken assumptions.

Character Interactions

  • Karin reassures and is reassured by Shiho and Sakura, though all three share anxiety and self-blame.
  • Tsunade and Wu Yu intervene as mentors and authorities, helping the group investigate rather than recklessly pursue the enemy.
  • Karin questions the Mysterious Clone versions of Hinata and Hanabi, hoping their inherited memories can reveal what happened.
  • The Hinata and Hanabi clones compare their partial memories and bodily sensations, reconstructing the kidnapping.
  • White Zetsu impersonators manipulate Karin and Sakura by pretending to be Hinata and Hanabi, exploiting the group’s trust and reluctance to interfere in a family matter.
  • Black Zetsu directs and criticizes the White Zetsu agents, treating the kidnapping as a strategic operation rather than a personal act.
  • Gray Mysterious confronts Black Zetsu from within Hanabi, accusing him of misunderstanding the plan and nearly compromising their mother’s preparations.

Ch. 327Pursuit (4k)

Chapter Summary: “Chasing”

Key Plot Points and Events

  • Hanabi Hyuga’s exhaustion allows Wu Yu’s will, sealed within the Brand Power on her forehead, to emerge and act independently as “Gray Mysterious.” Unlike Sasuke’s Cursed Seal, Hanabi’s seal is not being consciously suppressed, and Wu Yu’s superior mastery of Senjutsu lets him take control of her body.
  • Gray Mysterious and Black Zetsu discuss Kaguya’s preparations for possible defeat. Black Zetsu realizes that Kaguya sent Gray Mysterious back through time as a hidden countermeasure and left the “Gray Mysterious Seal” behind as another safeguard.
  • Two White Zetsu, disguised as Cloud shinobi, carry the unconscious Hinata and Hanabi northward. Their disguises are based on real Cloud shinobi whose chakra they copied in the past.
  • Konoha’s pursuit team—Karin, Neji, Sakura, Shiho, and Wu Yu—tracks the kidnappers. They pursue them toward the Land of Lightning, accepting the possibility of provoking conflict with Kumogakure.
  • The kidnappers attempt to delay the pursuit by using Lightning Release on the sea. The technique electrolyzes seawater and produces chlorine gas, incapacitating Shiho, Karin, and Neji.
  • Sakura administers antidotes, while Wu Yu rescues Shiho using the Jade Rabbit Power. Karin then uses her healing chains to restore the injured members almost instantly.
  • To escape more quickly, Gray Mysterious uses Brand Power, Sage Art, and a Mind Secret Technique to seize control of the two White Zetsu. He forces them to activate the Eight Inner Gates, dramatically increasing their speed despite the physical strain.
  • The kidnappers enter the Land of Lightning and deliberately adjust their route so that the Konoha team will eventually appear to “accidentally” discover the hiding place of the Two-Tails’ jinchūriki.
  • Tsunade authorizes the pursuit but questions why Naruto and Sasuke are not sent. Wu Yu explains that keeping them away prevents Black Zetsu from realizing that his earlier claims about Naruto and Sasuke may have been fabricated.
  • The chapter ends with Tsunade criticizing Wu Yu’s methods as underhanded, while Wu Yu insists that deception is simply part of being a shinobi.

Character Developments

  • Wu Yu: Demonstrates increasingly sophisticated control over his seals, Senjutsu, mind techniques, and the Brand Power. He remains confident, manipulative, and willing to use morally questionable strategies to achieve his goals. His altered constitution also makes him resistant to suffocation and toxins.
  • Gray Mysterious: Reveals that he is an extension or future-created incarnation of Wu Yu with exceptional abilities. He acts independently while inhabiting Hanabi’s body and proves capable of controlling White Zetsu and using the Eight Inner Gates through them.
  • Black Zetsu: Becomes suspicious of Gray Mysterious’s origins and abilities but continues cooperating with him. He also reveals more about Kaguya’s contingency plans and the isolated deployment of jinchūriki.
  • Karin: Shows strong determination to rescue Hinata and Hanabi, insists that the team continue even into Kumogakure’s territory, and displays powerful healing abilities.
  • Neji: Takes responsibility for tracking the kidnappers with his Byakugan but worries that the Hyuga family’s failure may cause Hinata and Hanabi to blame themselves.
  • Sakura: Acts quickly and competently as the team’s medical specialist, identifying the chlorine-gas attack and treating the poisoned pursuers.
  • Shiho: Serves as a more cautious, politically minded voice, worrying about the consequences of invading the Land of Lightning. Her interactions with Wu Yu also highlight her familiar, almost familial relationship with him.
  • Tsunade: Supports the rescue operation despite recognizing Wu Yu’s deceptive tactics. Her discomfort shows the tension between conventional leadership and Wu Yu’s increasingly ruthless pragmatism.

Significant Themes

  • Deception as a shinobi weapon: The chapter repeatedly emphasizes disguises, false identities, manipulated routes, staged accidents, and fabricated explanations.
  • Contingency planning and survival: Kaguya’s attempts to preserve hidden weapons against defeat mirror the kidnappers’ layered escape plans.
  • Power and physical limits: Hanabi’s exhaustion, White Zetsu’s regeneration, Wu Yu’s unusual body, and the Eight Inner Gates all explore how characters exceed ordinary physical boundaries.
  • Moral ambiguity: Wu Yu’s methods are effective but manipulative, raising questions about how far one can go in the name of rescue or victory.
  • Family and responsibility: The pursuit is driven by the Hyuga family’s need to recover Hinata and Hanabi, while Neji and the others struggle with guilt over having failed to protect them.
  • Jinchūriki as weapons: Black Zetsu explains that other villages isolate their jinchūriki and treat them as military assets, contrasting this with Konoha’s treatment.

Important Character Interactions

  • Gray Mysterious and Black Zetsu: Their dialogue reveals the time-traveling contingency involving Kaguya and establishes Gray Mysterious’s superior knowledge and abilities.
  • Wu Yu and Shiho: Their teasing exchange reflects familiarity but also contrasts Wu Yu’s aggressive worldview with Shiho’s caution.
  • Wu Yu and Karin: Both express uncompromising determination to rescue the Hyuga sisters, even if Kumogakure must be attacked.
  • Sakura, Karin, and Neji: They cooperate under pressure during the chlorine-gas ambush, combining medical treatment, healing techniques, and sensory abilities to recover.
  • Wu Yu and Tsunade: Their final exchange highlights the central conflict between traditional notions of honorable conduct and Wu Yu’s belief that successful shinobi rely on manipulation and shamelessness.

Ch. 328For the ideal (4k)

Key plot points and events

  • Tsunade wrestles with the cost of Wu Yu’s plan: most Jinchūriki are doomed because removing their Tailed Beasts will kill them. She particularly worries that Wu Yu allowed Gaara to be captured, but he says Gaara’s body is being preserved in Mysterious Kaguya’s Naraka Path and that help will come later.
  • Wu Yu describes his ideal future as a world free of hunger, illness, and accidental injury. He says his motivation is simple human compassion, not a desire to impose an all-encompassing illusion like the Infinite Tsukuyomi.
  • Tsunade senses that Wu Yu keeps part of himself hidden, though their closeness remains clear. Their conversation ends when he dispels his Shadow Clone, leaving her anxiously wondering whether Karin and the others have reached the Land of Lightning and how many people may die.
  • Yugito Nii meditates with Matatabi, the Two-Tails. Their banter touches on Kumogakure’s rank-based naming customs and Matatabi’s belief that Yugito is too weak to understand him.
  • Yugito senses activity nearby and sees Deidara flying overhead on a clay bird. Meanwhile, Karin’s group pursues two Kumogakure ninja who are carrying Hinata and Hanabi. Karin and Sakura use powerful blows to wreck the ground, but the pair escape underground toward Yugito’s temple.
  • The fugitives appeal to Yugito for help, claiming they are long-missing Kumogakure operatives who are trying to bring the Hyuga sisters back to the village. Yugito recognizes them and realizes they are apparently attempting another kidnapping for the Byakugan.

Character developments and interactions

  • Tsunade shows growing moral unease about sacrificing Jinchūriki for Wu Yu’s goal, while remaining emotionally close to him. Her private thoughts reveal both trust and uncertainty about the parts of him she cannot understand.
  • Wu Yu presents himself as driven by modest, practical compassion, but his calm willingness to let events unfold—and his hidden inner life—leave his motives somewhat mysterious. He appears to let Karin’s group take the lead.
  • Yugito and Matatabi share a combative but familiar bond: Matatabi teases her and boasts of their mental connection, while Yugito resents his intrusion and dismisses his assumptions.
  • Karin, Sakura, Shiho, and Neji work together in the pursuit. Karin is saving her Sage Mode strength for a major fight; Neji suspects the group’s destination holds a powerful opponent, though Wu Yu’s presence reassures him.
  • Deidara spots Yugito from the air and is preparing to act, but notices the approaching group, complicating the situation.

Significant themes

  • The cost of an ideal: A peaceful future may demand terrible sacrifices in the present, forcing Tsunade to confront the contradiction between healing and killing.
  • Compassion and privilege: Wu Yu’s wish to prevent hunger and suffering comes from recognizing how differently life might have gone had he been born into a harsher place.
  • Duty versus personhood: Yugito sees herself primarily as the vessel for Kumogakure’s weapon, reflecting the dehumanizing treatment of Jinchūriki.
  • Trust and secrecy: Tsunade and Neji both consider Wu Yu’s intentions, while his concealed inner world remains a source of distance even in intimate relationships.

Ch. 329Mobilization (4k)

Key plot points and events

  • Two Cloud Ninja return to Kumogakure with the kidnapped Hyuga sisters, Hinata and Hanabi. Yugito Nii, the Two-Tails’ jinchūriki, stays behind to hold off their Konoha pursuers.
  • Yugito blasts the pursuers with Tailed Beast Chakra. Karin uses her Uzumaki Chakra Chains to protect her group and help send Neji past Yugito toward the kidnappers.
  • Deidara joins the battle, bombarding the temple and its surroundings. Amid the chaos, Neji intercepts the kidnappers and rescues both sisters, disabling their captors. He later discovers their bodies have vanished: they were White Zetsu impostors who can blend into their surroundings.
  • Hinata and Hanabi awaken and recognize Neji’s Nature Energy technique. Black Zetsu reveals that the abduction and pursuit were arranged to draw Konoha’s powerful young ninja into Deidara’s fight with Yugito.
  • Deidara’s explosions continue. Karin, Sakura, and Shiho display frightening transformations and immense power, while Yugito partially transforms into the Two-Tails and manages to send a message to Kumogakure.
  • The Fourth Raikage, learning of the crisis, rushes out with Darui. Meanwhile, Obito and Pain move to exploit the Raikage’s absence and begin an operation against Kumogakure’s jinchūriki. Jiraiya senses that the time has come for him to act.

Character developments and interactions

  • Neji demonstrates calm, precise leadership and uses his Flying Bird clones to rescue Hinata and Hanabi. He regrets killing the apparent kidnappers before learning more, showing concern for the consequences of his actions.
  • Karin reveals the power of her Chakra Chains, which Matatabi recognizes as a threat to the Two-Tails. Her taunting exchange with Yugito quickly turns into a direct confrontation.
  • Yugito and Matatabi cooperate despite their mutual dislike: Matatabi warns Yugito of Karin’s attack because it wants to remain with its current host.
  • Hinata and Hanabi regain consciousness and understand Neji’s technique through their Byakugan.
  • Black Zetsu exposes the larger deception: the apparent rescue mission was engineered to manipulate both Konoha’s pursuers and Yugito. The Raikage’s impulsive response creates an opening for Akatsuki.

Significant themes

  • Deception and manipulation: White Zetsu’s disguises and Black Zetsu’s staged abduction turn a rescue into a trap.
  • Power and the burden of being a jinchūriki: Yugito is forced to defend her village and confront enemies who covet both her power and the Byakugan.
  • Escalating conflict: Personal rivalries and a kidnapping rapidly widen into a threat involving multiple villages and Akatsuki.
  • Cooperation despite distrust: Yugito and Matatabi work together out of self-interest, while the Konoha team relies on one another under pressure.

Ch. 330Heavy Hammer

Key plot points and events

  • The Fourth Raikage rushes from Kumogakure after hearing that Yugito, the Two-Tails Jinchūriki, needs help against a joint Konoha–Akatsuki attack. He reaches the battlefield in under two minutes, leaving Darui and a support squad far behind.
  • On the way, the Raikage collides with Neji, Hinata, and Hanabi Hyuga after Wu Yu trips him. Wu Yu then turns into wind and blasts the Raikage toward the battle.
  • The Raikage sees Konoha and Akatsuki fighters arguing rather than cooperating, making him question whether Konoha truly hired the criminals. He tries to reach the fight and attack the Konoha kunoichi.
  • The Raikage destroys Sasori’s puppets with Lightning Release, but Wu Yu expands into a gigantic wind form and pulls him into a powerful gale.
  • Neji and Hanabi use Nature Energy clones to strike the Raikage with Gentle Fist, disrupting his Lightning Chakra Mode. Hinata then traps him with her Lion Heart technique, while the others unleash a coordinated barrage of Eight Trigrams attacks.
  • Obito appears amid the battle, finds Sasori badly damaged beneath debris, and remarks on the intensity of the fight.

Character developments and interactions

  • The Fourth Raikage is shown as fiercely protective, impulsive, and extraordinarily fast. His confidence in his strength is challenged by Wu Yu’s Wind Release and the Hyuga siblings’ coordinated techniques.
  • Wu Yu uses humor and overwhelming Wind Release to redirect and restrain the Raikage, turning a potential confrontation into an opening for the Hyugas.
  • Neji, Hinata, and Hanabi cooperate effectively. Hinata’s past connection to the Raikage—he ordered her attempted kidnapping, and Neji’s father died because of him—gives their action the feel of settling old scores.
  • Darui and Mabui coordinate the response in Kumogakure; Darui recognizes that the Raikage will arrive long before a squad can follow.
  • Obito enters at the end, while the Konoha and Akatsuki fighters’ bickering complicates the Raikage’s assumptions about their alliance.

Significant themes

  • Power and teamwork: Even a fighter with Tailed Beast-level strength can be overcome through coordinated tactics.
  • Misunderstanding and suspicion: The Raikage assumes Konoha and Akatsuki are allied, but their arguments suggest the situation is more complicated.
  • Old grievances: The Hyugas’ involvement is tied to past harm caused by the Raikage, framing the battle as both a tactical clash and a reckoning.

Ch. 331Pain invaded Kumogakure (4k)

Key plot points and events

  • Nagato’s Akatsuki approaches Kumogakure, whose broad mountain terrain is protected by eight supporting barriers and a vast outer barrier. Pain plans to send in Animal Path first, then split the Paths into teams to sow confusion and search for the Eight-Tails Jinchūriki.
  • Konan warns that attacking Kumogakure’s Two-Tails and Eight-Tails at once could provoke the Raikage and unite the other villages against Akatsuki, jeopardizing their plan to gather the tailed beasts. She also distrusts “Madara,” whose recent push for rapid captures seems unusually reckless.
  • The chapter shifts to Obito watching the ongoing battle. Sasori is overwhelmed by the transformed Two-Tails Jinchūriki, so Obito rescues Sasori’s living core with Kamui.
  • The Fourth Raikage fights Neji, Hinata, and Hanabi Hyuga, but their triangular formation traps him. Obito suspects an unseen force—possibly nature energy—is disrupting the Raikage’s movements, and notices unusual chakra around Hanabi.
  • Sakura and another transformed Konoha kunoichi support the red-haired fighter battling the Two-Tails while keeping Deidara’s bombs at bay. Obito judges the Two-Tails’ defeat likely, but intends to keep its Jinchūriki alive.
  • Obito grows suspicious of Black Zetsu and wonders whether Madara is alive, hidden within Zetsu, or pursuing a plan Obito does not know. He resolves not to risk Nagato’s Rinnegan.
  • At Kumogakure, Animal Path launches through the barriers using Asura Path’s missile-like arm. The explosion clears the mist, and the remaining Paths and Konan teleport to the breach to begin the assault.

Character developments and interactions

  • Konan acts as Nagato’s cautious strategic counterweight, questioning the timing of the attacks and expressing distrust of “Madara.” She remains closely allied with Nagato, linking her chakra to the body of Yahiko used as Deva Path.
  • Nagato/Pain stays composed and committed to the operation, proceeding with the established plan despite Konan’s concerns.
  • Obito is increasingly unsettled: he recognizes the strength of the young Hyuga and Konoha kunoichi, investigates their unfamiliar abilities, and becomes wary of both Black Zetsu and Madara’s influence.
  • The Hyuga trio demonstrate coordinated skill that can restrain even the exceptionally fast and powerful Fourth Raikage.
  • White Zetsu offers to help Pain, but Konan rejects him, affirming Pain’s strength.
  • Obito’s intervention saves Sasori, while his decision to protect the Two-Tails’ host shows that Akatsuki’s goal is capture, not merely victory.

Significant themes

  • Power and uncertainty: New or unexplained abilities challenge even experienced observers’ understanding of the shinobi world.
  • Strategy versus haste: Konan fears that rapid, simultaneous attacks may unite Akatsuki’s enemies before it can achieve its aims.
  • Distrust and hidden agendas: Obito and Konan both suspect that “Madara” is concealing motives or information.
  • Peace through coercion: Akatsuki’s plan seeks peace through a weapon powerful enough to intimidate the world, while risking a war that could prevent that goal.
  • Teamwork and adaptation: Coordinated formations and support allow young fighters to confront opponents far stronger than any one of them alone.

Ch. 332Is That What You Want? (4k)

Plot points and events

  • Darui hears explosions behind the squad supporting the Raikage and turns back to investigate Kumogakure, sending the others onward.
  • Akatsuki’s Pains and Konan attack the village. Animal Path summons giant creatures to crush buildings, while Asura Path rains missiles on the surrounding peaks. The other Pains search for the Eight-Tails’ location, using interrogation and memory extraction on Cloud Ninja.
  • Karui charges Deva Path Pain but is repelled by Shinra Tensei. Darui arrives and attacks during the technique’s cooldown, but Preta Path absorbs his Storm Release. Deva Path pulls Darui toward him; Darui manages to strike Human Path and destroy half its head while trying to protect Omoi, but Preta Path catches and drains his chakra.
  • Samui initially restrains Konan with Ice Release, but Konan escapes and captures her with paper. Konan threatens to kill Samui unless she reveals the Eight-Tails’ location. Before Samui can answer, Deva Path reports that Killer B is at the Valley of Clouds and Lightning, and Akatsuki leaves with Konan.
  • Karui returns to find Omoi dead and Darui down. She challenges the Pains and demands to know why they are attacking. Deva Path answers that powerful villages routinely exploit weaker ones; Karui bluntly admits Kumogakure has stolen kekkei genkai and argues that strength, not kindness, explains why other villages lack them.

Character development and interactions

  • Darui puts the village’s safety ahead of supporting the Raikage, showing his loyalty and sense of duty. He also risks himself to save Omoi, despite quickly realizing he is outmatched.
  • Omoi’s anxious caution contrasts with Karui’s impulsiveness: he warns her not to charge, but she attacks anyway. His death turns Karui’s anger into grief and defiance.
  • Konan is controlled and ruthless in battle, yet her thoughts reveal deep mistrust of the masked man posing as Madara. Her secret stockpile of explosive tags reflects years of preparation to oppose him.
  • Samui remains composed under pressure but chooses silence rather than betray the Eight-Tails, accepting the possibility of death.
  • Deva Path’s confrontation with Karui turns the attack into an accusation against Kumogakure’s own history of violence and appropriation.

Significant themes

  • The cost of power and secrecy: Kumogakure’s classified information about Killer B makes interrogation brutal, while Akatsuki’s search leaves ordinary villagers caught in the violence.
  • Hypocrisy and cycles of violence: Deva Path argues that Kumogakure’s suffering mirrors what it inflicts on weaker villages; Karui acknowledges the theft but treats strength as justification.
  • Loyalty and sacrifice: Darui risks himself for the village and Omoi, while Samui refuses to give up Killer B’s location.
  • Hidden distrust and long-term resistance: Konan’s secret preparations show that even within Akatsuki, alliances are fragile and vengeance may be carefully planned.

Ch. 333A Perfect Chance to Make Amends (4K)

Chapter Summary

Key plot points and events

  • Nagato unleashes Super Shinra Tensei, using nearly all his chakra to flatten Kumogakure into a vast crater. Konan is horrified, but Nagato quickly recovers and orders the group to move toward the Valley of Clouds and Lightning.
  • The Fourth Raikage is held in place by Neji, Hinata, and Hanabi Hyuga’s coordinated Byakugan techniques. Neji accuses Kumogakure of kidnapping Hinata and Hanabi; the Raikage denies responsibility and suspects Konoha is using the incident as a pretext for war.
  • Elsewhere, Obito’s group defeats Yugito Nii, the Two-Tails Jinchūriki. Shiho discovers how effectively her Brand Power can shape chakra, Sakura strikes down Deidara, and Obito uses his Sharingan and space-time technique to abduct Yugito into the Kamui Dimension.
  • Karin realizes Wu Yu seems willing to let Akatsuki collect the Tailed Beasts. Wu Yu confirms little, but Karin says she will remain on his side.
  • Obito says he intends to find Nagato. At the chapter’s end, Killer B notices what appears to be a missile falling toward him.

Character developments and interactions

  • Konan remains devoted to Nagato despite disagreeing with his increasingly destructive methods. Remembering the gentle person he was before Yahiko’s death, she chooses to stay beside him.
  • Nagato demonstrates both the overwhelming scale of his power and his willingness to spend his life force to advance his plan.
  • Neji, Hinata, and Hanabi work together to restrain the Raikage. Neji takes on more of the burden, while Hinata persists partly to prove herself and protect her sister.
  • The Raikage is furious but also unsettled by the kidnapping accusation, suspecting rogue agents may have acted without his knowledge.
  • Shiho gains confidence in her abilities after shaping Brand Power into a massive lightning sword. Sakura uses her Cursed Seal form to knock Deidara from the air.
  • Karin confronts Wu Yu about his apparent tolerance of Akatsuki’s goals. Their exchange shows her loyalty to him, while Wu Yu’s motives remain deliberately unclear.
  • Obito acts decisively to secure Yugito, while Black Zetsu detects Nagato’s attack from afar.

Significant themes

  • Revenge and the perpetuation of suffering: Nagato’s transformation from gentle youth to destroyer is tied to Yahiko’s death, while his attack seeks to make powerful villages experience the pain they have inflicted on others.
  • Loyalty despite disagreement: Konan stays with Nagato out of love, shared history, and devotion to Yahiko; Karin likewise pledges loyalty to Wu Yu despite not understanding his plans.
  • Power and responsibility: The chapter contrasts the immense destructive capacity of the great villages and their leaders with the vulnerable people caught in their conflicts.
  • Uncertainty and hidden motives: The Raikage’s denial, Wu Yu’s ambiguous intentions, and Obito’s pursuit of Nagato keep alliances and the broader plan unclear.

Ch. 334Sealing and summoning (4k)

Key plot points and events

  • Cloud ninja investigate Killer B’s sudden transformation into the Eight-Tails and find him facing two Akatsuki members: Pain and a masked figure.
  • Pain uses Chibaku Tensei to trap the Eight-Tails, but B and the beast resist. One Cloud ninja is killed by the masked man; the other is also caught in the attack’s pull.
  • Obito says Pain cannot seal the fully manifested Eight-Tails with his current strength. Vortex White Zetsu armors Pain, greatly boosting his power, allowing him to compress the beast and the surrounding terrain into a reinforced sphere.
  • Obito’s remarks reveal a rift with Nagato: he claims Nagato is too weak to use the Rinnegan properly and says sealing a Tailed Beast should be nearly instantaneous for a capable user.
  • Black Zetsu takes control of Nagato, while Konan hesitates to intervene for fear of injuring Nagato’s already frail body. Under Black Zetsu’s direction, Pain summons the Demonic Statue of the Outer Path.
  • Obito delivers the genjutsu-bound Yugito Nii to the statue. Its chakra chains extract both the Two-Tails from Yugito and the Eight-Tails from Chibaku Tensei, and the statue swallows them.
  • Meanwhile, Gray Mysterious releases the souls and chakra sealed by the Dead Demon Consuming Seal by destroying its mask. The Yin Nine-Tails’ chakra emerges, but transforms into Minato Namikaze, who uses the Spirit Transformation Technique.

Character developments and interactions

  • Killer B and the Eight-Tails demonstrate their ability to fully transform and resist Pain’s sealing technique, though they are ultimately captured through Obito’s plan and Zetsu’s enhancement.
  • Nagato/Pain is pushed to his limits and becomes increasingly suspicious of Obito. His physical weakness leaves him vulnerable to Black Zetsu’s takeover.
  • Obito openly asserts authority over Nagato, criticizes his ability, and proceeds with the sealing plan without regard for their partnership.
  • Konan is distressed and conflicted: she wants to protect Nagato but cannot attack Black Zetsu without risking his life.
  • Gray Mysterious reveals mastery of a dangerous method for undoing the Dead Demon Consuming Seal, setting up Minato’s return.

Significant themes

  • Power and control: The chapter contrasts the strength of the Tailed Beasts with the techniques and alliances used to dominate them.
  • Betrayal and manipulation: Obito’s criticism, Black Zetsu’s possession of Nagato, and the concealed agenda surrounding the Rinnegan expose the instability of Akatsuki’s alliances.
  • Loyalty versus helplessness: Konan’s devotion to Nagato is tested by her inability to act without endangering him.
  • Sealing and release: The chapter pairs the capture of the Two- and Eight-Tails with the release of the Yin Nine-Tails’ chakra—and Minato’s unexpected reappearance.

Ch. 335Something's Terribly Wrong (4k)

  • Naruto receives Yang Nine-Tails’ warning that its other half—and Minato—are in peril. He abandons his mission to alert the Rabbit Bracelet network.
  • Wu Yu coordinates the response, and Kakashi, Sasuke, and Naruto arrive at his location. Meanwhile, Sakura and Shiho report that an Akatsuki member has already captured the Two-Tails Jinchuriki.
  • Sasuke and Naruto scout from the air, discover Kumogakure has been devastated, and locate Minato’s golden, battling form. Naruto dives toward him, calling out, “Dad!”

Character developments and interactions

  • Minato remains courageous and self-sacrificing: rather than seek escape, he risks himself to warn Naruto.
  • Yin Nine-Tails grumbles at Minato’s reckless choice but cooperates, breaking the genjutsu and lending him power.
  • Naruto responds immediately to the threat to his father, putting personal concern ahead of mission orders. His bond with Yang Nine-Tails is strong enough for it to communicate the warning directly.
  • Obito appears composed and determined, attempting to subdue Minato and proceed with his plan.
  • Wu Yu and Karin exchange teasing accusations about Wu Yu’s involvement in events, while Wu Yu helps mobilize the group.
  • Sasuke quickly analyzes the devastation and takes the lead in locating the fight; Naruto joins him without hesitation.

Significant themes

  • Family bonds and sacrifice: Minato risks capture to alert Naruto, who rushes to save him.
  • Cooperation and communication: The Rabbit Bracelet network rapidly brings allies together across great distances.
  • Power and responsibility: Naruto’s choice to leave his mission underscores the tension between duty and personal loyalty, while the immense destructive power on display raises the stakes.

Ch. 336Ten-Tails (4k)

Plot points and events

  • Minato, in soul form and transformed into the Yin Nine-Tails, is caught by the Demonic Statue’s chakra chains. Naruto and Sasuke arrive too late to stop it from swallowing Minato and the Yin Nine-Tails.
  • The statue completes its transformation into the Ten-Tails. Its revival unleashes an immense chakra that alarms sensitive ninja across the world.
  • Naruto, enraged by the loss of his father’s soul, confronts Obito. The Nine-Tails explains that its Yin half has grown to match its former strength, but Naruto’s immediate goal is to save Minato.
  • Wu Yu’s group sets out north after sensing the Ten-Tails. They leave Deidara in Katsuyu’s custody and bring along Left Mysterious Minato, who carries the original Minato’s last memories.
  • On the way, they pass the Fourth Raikage, still locked in a standoff with Neji, Hinata, and Hanabi. Karin clears a path through Cloud reinforcements, while the group ignores the Raikage and teleports onward.
  • At the battlefield, the Ten-Tails overwhelms Naruto’s transformed Nine-Tails. Sasuke attacks Obito and the Paths of Pain, cutting several down, but Obito escapes to the Ten-Tails’ head.

Character developments and interactions

  • Naruto is devastated and furious at being too late to save Minato, but remains determined to retrieve his father’s soul.
  • Minato accepts that he cannot escape the statue and entrusts what remains to Naruto.
  • Sasuke stays tactical amid the crisis, quickly assessing the battlefield and attacking the enemy forces.
  • Kakashi is shaken by the revelation that Obito is involved; Minato’s clone apologizes for being unable to stop him.
  • Wu Yu and Tsunade discuss the Ten-Tails’ threat through their shared mental connection. Wu Yu expresses confidence in their chances, relying on Mysterious Kaguya.
  • Karin takes charge during the journey, using her chakra chains to scatter Cloud Ninja. Neji quietly helps Hinata and Hanabi before following the group.
  • The Fourth Raikage misreads Konoha’s passage as a possible act of war, but the group gives him no attention.

Significant themes

  • Loss and inheritance: Minato’s final trust in Naruto turns his death into a handoff of responsibility.
  • Urgency and power: The Ten-Tails’ revival makes the conflict feel catastrophic, while even powerful fighters struggle to affect it.
  • Trust and resolve: Naruto’s determination and Wu Yu’s confidence contrast with the danger and uncertainty surrounding them.
  • Conflict amid larger threats: The Raikage’s feud with Konoha continues even as a world-threatening enemy takes priority.

Ch. 337Beyond reach (4k)

Obito Uchiha revived the Ten-Tails but found it too powerful to control, while Naruto Uzumaki and Sasuke Uchiha fought against it and Wu Yu’s group watched. Obito concluded that he had to become its jinchuriki and began the Ten-Tails Coffin Seal.

  • Obito Uchiha connected himself to the revived Ten-Tails with Six Paths Techniques and called Tobi to help control it.
  • Tobi escaped Sasuke Uchiha and climbed the Ten-Tails as Naruto Uzumaki attacked it with a giant Rasenshuriken, which Wu Yu absorbed with the Golden Steel Ring.
  • Black Zetsu and Gray Mysterious realized Naruto Uzumaki and Sasuke Uchiha had arrived, then coordinated attempts to keep them apart and away from Hagoromo.
  • Naruto Uzumaki stopped attacking after the Yang Nine-Tails urged him to wait, and he joined Wu Yu’s group as they watched Obito Uchiha.
  • Obito Uchiha decided the Ten-Tails was too powerful to control for the Infinite Tsukuyomi and began the Six Paths: Ten-Tails Coffin Seal.

Ch. 338The sage appeared (4k)

Obito Uchiha absorbed the Ten-Tails and became its Jinchuriki, but found he could not begin the Infinite Tsukuyomi ritual without the Rinnegan. Wu Yu and the others attacked him with Senjutsu, injuring him and setting up a chance to strike.

  • Obito Uchiha became the Ten-Tails Jinchuriki, repelled Kakashi Hatake's Kamui and Sasuke Uchiha's attacks, and failed to create an external God Tree without the Rinnegan.
  • Wu Yu warned the others that Obito could nullify ordinary ninjutsu, so they activated Senjutsu, Cursed Seals, and other enhanced forms.
  • Obito broke free of Sage Art Wood Release, but Naruto Uzumaki, Sasuke Uchiha, and Karin attacked him with Senjutsu; Karin's Water Cannon injured his face.
  • Wu Yu used Sage Art: Dust Release while Neji Hyuga and his siblings restrained Obito, destroying half his body before it regenerated.
  • Left Mysterious Minato brought Kakashi Hatake beside Obito, and Kakashi's Kamui Style Chidori severed Obito's right arm.

Ch. 339The Sage Appears, Continued

Nakamori Wu Yu confronted Six Paths Obito and freed several of his allies while Jiraiya rescued Konan and examined the Great Toad Sage’s lingering visions. Jiraiya’s visions showed Wu Yu beneath enormous Tomoe Rinnegan, leaving him convinced that he had to stop Wu Yu.

  • Six Paths Obito immobilized Naruto, Sasuke, Karin, Wu Yu, and others with Truth-Seeking Orbs, then regenerated his severed arm and tried to contact Black Zetsu for Nagato’s Rinnegan.
  • Wu Yu intercepted Obito, struck him out of the sky, and revealed that Black Zetsu and Nagato were trapped in Jiraiya’s genjutsu.
  • Jiraiya dispelled Konan’s genjutsu and found her beside the still-trapped Nagato and Black Zetsu.
  • Jiraiya recalled training to improve his Sage Mode senses and exploring fragments of the Great Toad Sage’s lingering chakra, which repeatedly showed Wu Yu and different Rinnegan.
  • Jiraiya saw a vision of Wu Yu beneath colossal Tomoe Rinnegan, then woke bleeding and vowed to stop him.

Ch. 340The Rinnegan (4k)

Jiraiya investigated the immense nature energy in the Land of Lightning and found Konan, Nagato, and Black Zetsu near the vanished Ten-Tails. Black Zetsu revealed that Nagato’s Rinnegan belonged to him and claimed to be Madara Uchiha’s will, but Jiraiya sealed him in place and attacked.

  • Jiraiya received a messenger toad’s report of a terrifying mass of nature energy in the Land of Lightning and traveled there with Sage Shima and Sage Fukasaku.
  • Shima and Fukasaku identified the energy as the Ten-Tails, but its chakra vanished before Jiraiya reached it.
  • Jiraiya found Konan and Nagato concealed behind a paper disguise and trapped them with Sage Art: Toad Confrontation Chant.
  • Jiraiya freed Konan and questioned Nagato and Black Zetsu in the genjutsu, where Black Zetsu claimed Nagato’s Rinnegan were his and said he was Madara Uchiha’s will.
  • Black Zetsu escaped the genjutsu, removed Nagato’s Rinnegan, and tried to flee, but Jiraiya immobilized him with a sealing array and sent his hair surging toward him.
