Background / History

The Celestial Master Temple was once the foremost Daoist institution on Wangwu Mountain and had previously stood at the pinnacle of Daoist leadership. By the early revival era, however, it had failed to capitalize on the world’s transformation and had declined relative to other sacred Daoist sites. 24

Despite its reduced scale, the temple occupies an exceptionally favorable spiritual land. Its connected mountain peaks, old halls, and mist-covered courtyards contain abundant vital energy, while Wangwu Mountain itself is identified as the Minor Qingxu Grotto-Heaven. 24

Yuan Tianzong first infiltrates the temple in search of ancient Daoist records concerning the white flame he possesses. He later returns to locate the more restricted Celestial Master Cave, whose hidden location and transformed nature prevent him from finding it by ordinary searching. 24 31

When the Old Celestial Master falls into demonic possession inside the cave, the sect leader and nine elders cannot restrain him despite combining their Daoist true energy and using the Heart-Cleansing Flute. Yuan Tianzong restores the Old Celestial Master’s clarity, after which the sect grants him access to its classical collection. 32

The temple subsequently faces an attempted takeover by the Quanzhen Sect and the Wang Family, who covet its increasingly valuable spiritual land. On his second entry, he searches for the Celestial Master Cave, finds the Sutra Depository emptied of its elder caretakers, and ultimately relies on Xue Ding and the ninth junior sister to reach the hidden cave. 31 32

Demonic-Possession Crisis

The Old Celestial Master’s final attempt to break into the Grandmaster forbidden zone leaves him demonically possessed. Yuan Tianzong effortlessly breaks the condition that the sect leader and nine elders could not suppress, earning access to the cave’s scriptures. 32 33

The Old Celestial Master learns that Yuan Tianzong has entered the Grandmaster realm without Divine Smoke of Entering the Dao, confirming that his master’s teachings—and the temple’s long-held belief in another path—were not mistaken. 33

Defense of the Mountain Gate

The Quanzhen Sect and Wang Family pressure the temple into an unfair contest for its spiritual land, then use Feng Qi’s death as a pretext to launch a direct attack. 37 40 41
