Background / History

Hongjun was born from Primordial One Qi during Pangu’s World Creation and evolved alongside the Heavenly Dao rather than reincarnating from an Immortal Dao Chaos Demon God. His origin made him the orthodox inheritor of the Primordial World’s Heavenly Dao and gave him authority over the Mystic Gate and the Three Thousand Innate Gods 68 314.

During the War of Dao and Demon, Hongjun schemed against Qiankun Ancestor and Yin-Yang Ancestor, drove Demon Ancestor Luohu and Old Ancestor Yangmei from the Primordial Wilderness, and established the Heavenly Dao as the world’s orthodox path. These events allowed him to prove his Dao and attain sainthood 31.

After attaining sainthood, Hongjun’s manifestation radiated saintly might across the Primordial World. Purple light and spiritual rain repaired the Western Land, awakened living beings, and allowed countless creatures to gain enlightenment merely by witnessing his phantom 2. He later initiated the Immortal Dao Law and began teaching the Three Thousand Innate Gods at the Purple Cloud Palace 8.

Hongjun’s sermons established the path toward Heavenly Dao sainthood. During the third lecture, he announced that the Primordial World would have nine Saint thrones and revealed the importance of Primordial Violet Qi in merging the Three Corpses and proving the Dao. When Haotian complained that the Heavenly Dao Saints refused to support him, Hongjun agreed to help him one final time. He later summoned the Saints and announced the Investiture of the Gods Tribulation, punishing those who refused to assist Haotian 119 120.

As the conflict between the Mystic and Demonic Sects intensified, Hongjun manipulated events against former disciples Zhunti and Jieyin. He obscured the distinction between Sun Wukong and Vast-Arm Ape Monkey to undermine the Demonic Sect and later stripped Jieyin of his Heavenly Dao Saint position, granting the Primordial Violet Qi to Wutian instead 420 426.

Hongjun later sought to abandon the burdens of the Heavenly Dao and perfect his own Great Dao. He recruited the Transcendent Immortal, Dao Yan, to the Hongmeng Immortal Palace and offered him control of the Primordial World. Hongjun is generally calm, benevolent, and measured, especially toward his disciples and the beings of the Primordial World. He regrets neglecting Haotian and treats him with a fatherly affection. His repeated gifts to East King Duke also create a relationship based on mutual respect and trust 37 68 119.

He is also an experienced schemer. During the War of Dao and Demon, he eliminated rival powers through carefully arranged events, and he continues to manipulate the balance between the Mystic Gate, the Demonic Sect, and the Chaos Demon Gods 31 420 537.

Hongjun favors natural cultivation over forced breakthroughs. Although he can create the Hongjun Great Dao at will, he delays proving it because he believes that allowing the process to unfold naturally will produce a purer and more complete Dao 637.
