The False Monkey King tribulation awakened the Chaos Demon Ape, leaving Jieyin stripped of sainthood and Wutian chosen to receive his Primordial Violet Qi.

• Shen Gongbao and Guiguzi forced Saint Zhunti to repay his merit and karmic debts, while Great Immortal Huli won the first contest and the Western Teachings surrendered much of their fortune.
• Dong Wanggong joined the Queen of West Liang and the Scorpion Spirit as Dao Companions, while the pilgrims completed the Western Liang tribulation and punished Bodhisattva Lingji.
• Saint Jieyin joined Demon Ancestor Luohu's Demon Sect, Zhunti became Demon Buddha Zhunti, and the sect prepared for the coming tribulation as Future Buddha Bai Ze went to study the Great Dao of Fate.
• Manjushri Bodhisattva forced the Vast-Arm Ape Monkey to wear an Illusory Crown and impersonate Sun Wukong, but the two monkeys recognized their connection and stood together at Great Thunderclap Monastery.
• Dao Ancestor Hongjun made Sun Wukong and the Vast-Arm Ape Monkey indistinguishable, and Demon Buddha Zhunti's attempt to convert them awakened the Chaos Demon Ape as the Four Mixed Monkeys merged.
• The Chaos Demon Ape destroyed Great Thunderclap Monastery and killed Saint Jieyin during the ensuing battle, while Hongjun sent Jieyin to be reborn and overpowered Demon Ancestor Luohu.
• Hongjun restored Jieyin but stripped him of his Heavenly Dao Saint status, and Dong Wanggong chose Wutian to receive Jieyin's Primordial Violet Qi.

Dong Wanggong oversaw Tang Sanzang’s revival, Haotian’s ceremony, and the limits placed on the Western Demon Court while preparing for threats from Chaos Demon Gods. After strengthening the Six Paths of Reincarnation and hearing Pangu’s warning about Primordial Origin, he helped Sun Wukong advance and found the Bull Demon King a place in the Heavenly Court.

• Dong Wanggong gave Wutian the Primordial Violet Qi, and Wutian attained the Heavenly Dao Saint realm before receiving orders to guard the Six Paths of Reincarnation.
• The Myriad Demon Ancestor swallowed Tang Sanzang, whose death awakened Golden Cicada, and Ancient Buddha Burning Lamp sacrificed the Funeral Dao Profound Coffin to revive him as an Innate Deity.
• At Haotian’s ceremony, the Three Pure Ones reunited, Old Master Taiqing joined the Hongmeng Immortal Palace, and Haotian restricted the Western Demon Court to the Western Continent.
• Haotian exposed the Western Demon Court’s recruitment of Heavenly Court officials, and the court punished the conspirators while Luohu paid compensation for the losses.
• Dong Wanggong and his allies forged the Slaughter Calamity Spear, which Beast Emperor Shen Ni used to kill the Destiny Chaos Demon God and recover the Fate Roulette and Destiny origin.

Tang Sanzang’s party cleared several ordeals while Dong Wanggong advanced his cultivation and gathered Dao Companions. The arc ended with Golden Cicada awakening in Tang Sanzang’s body after Wutian sent him alone to Pansi Cave.

• Tang Sanzang’s party recovered Jinguang Temple’s Sarira and, with Ao Bing’s help, defeated the Nine-Headed Insect and the Eight-headed Serpent, then persuaded Jisae Kingdom to honor the East Sea Dragon King and Third Prince.
• Dong Wanggong took Apricot Fairy as his Dao Companion, perfected the Great Dao of Strength, and invited his companions to cultivate in the Hongmeng Immortal Palace.
• Tang Sanzang’s party exposed Manjushri Bodhisattva’s Jingji Ridge trial, destroyed Lesser Thunderclap Monastery, and continued west after Guanyin Buddha ended the ordeals.
• Tang Sanzang revealed Sai Taishui’s identity to Zhu Zi Kingdom, whose king sacrificed himself and was swallowed by the demon before Guanyin Buddha killed Sai Taishui and the king’s soul entered reincarnation.
• Wutian told Tang Sanzang to go alone to Pansi Cave so Golden Cicada could break free of Buddha’s restriction, and Tang Sanzang agreed to follow the plan.
• The seven Spider Spirits bound Tang Sanzang and drained his primordial spirit and soul while he hid his true vital core, allowing Golden Cicada’s consciousness to awaken in his body.

Tang Sanzang defeated Evil Sword Immortal in a debate that shattered the Demon Sect’s Buddhist Path, then continued west toward the deadly Shituoling. There, the pilgrims faced the demons responsible for slaughtering countless humans, and Zhu Bajie sought help to prepare for the coming battles.

• Golden Cicada went mad under the effects of The Sow is Also Crazy, killed Baihua Xiu’s children, and was taken toward Mount Sumeru by Ancient Buddha Burning Lamp while Tang Sanzang continued west.
• At Yellow Flower Temple, Tang Sanzang and Sun Wukong defeated the Thousand-Eyed Centipede Spirit, whose exploding poisonous sword devastated the surrounding land, and Shennong directed them to seek aid from the Empress at Fengqi Mountain.
• Dong Wanggong and Zixuan arranged for Huanglong to restore the ruined land, while Ao Bing absorbed the seven Spider Spirits’ power, killed them, and advanced to the mid-stage Quasi-Saint.
• The Demon Sect altered the Shituoling tribulation, and Huanglong defeated and killed Arhat Dragon-Subduing after severing his Self Corpse and advancing to the Early-stage Quasi-Saint realm.
• At Jiang Kingdom, Tang Sanzang debated Evil Sword Immortal, returned the emotions he had stolen, and declared that Buddha was originally Dao, destroying Golden Cicada’s Buddhist cultivation and crippling the Demon Sect’s Buddhist forces.
• Tang Sanzang advanced to the Early-stage Quasi-Saint realm, while Dong Wanggong restored Xue Jian and brought Long Kui and Zixuan to meet Xi Yao at Tongtian Jianmu.
• At Shituoling, Tang Sanzang and his disciples found evidence that the demons had eaten hundreds of millions of humans, and the Elephant Spirit, Nine-Headed Lion Spirit, and Void Divine Eagle challenged them to three bloody battles.
• Zhu Bajie went to Shouyang Mountain for help against the Elephant Spirit, and Doumu Yuanjun gave him a Creation Profound Pill formula and treasures to reshape his foundation and help him attain Hunyuan.
