Tang Sanzang freed Sun Wukong, and the pair began their westward pilgrimage while Shen Gongbao and the powers of the Primordial World pursued their own plans. The arc left Tang Sanzang protected from Elder Jinchi’s attack as Sun Wukong and Huanglong spent time with the Black Bear Spirit.

• Tathagata sealed Sun Wukong beneath Five Elements Mountain, while Tang Sanzang set out alone and freed him by breaking the golden seal.
• Tang Sanzang and Sun Wukong returned to Double Fork Ridge, where they defeated the three demons before Shen Gongbao intervened and accepted Sun Wukong as his adopted son.
• Shen Gongbao gave Sun Wukong the Central Wuji Apricot Yellow Banner and made Guanyin Bodhisattva wear the Golden Fillet, while Sun Wukong killed the three demons.
• Demon Ancestor Luohu brought Beast Emperor Shen Ni back into the Primordial World, but Shen Ni rejected his plans and helped purge the evil power from Dao Ancestor Hongjun.
• Dong Wanggong freed Shen Ni from Luohu’s influence and absorbed the Dao Heart Demonic Seed, then helped reunite the final Jade Disk of Creation fragment with Haotian’s disk.
• Tang Sanzang, Sun Wukong, and Huanglong arrived at Guanyin Monastery, where Elder Jinchi’s secret Devil Dao cultivation led him to abduct Tang Sanzang and frame the Black Bear Spirit.
• Shen Gongbao persuaded the Buddhas to let Sun Wukong and Huanglong handle Elder Jinchi, who declared himself the Supreme Golden Pool True Demon Buddha and tried to devour Tang Sanzang.
• The Central Wuji Apricot Yellow Banner protected Tang Sanzang and drove Elder Jinchi back, while Sun Wukong and Huanglong stayed at Black Wind Cave with the Black Bear Spirit.

Sun Wukong’s group defeated Jinchi and continued west, recruiting Zhu Bajie and Sha Heshang while Buddhist figures arranged trials to earn merit. Meanwhile, Haotian brought Primordial Heavenly Venerate and Old Mother Lishan into Dong Wanggong’s circle, and the pilgrims approached a manor for their next encounter.

• Sun Wukong recruited the Black Bear Spirit, Ling Xuzi, and the White Snake Flower Spirit to help rescue Tang Sanzang, and they killed Jinchi and sealed the Desire Heart Demon.
• Ling Xuzi became Mencius’s disciple, the three spirits gained Heavenly Dao Merit and advanced their cultivation, and Shen Gongbao traced the Desire Heart Demon to Sacred Beast White Tiger.
• Sacred Beast White Tiger fought the Western Teachings, but Old Ancestor Cangtian killed him, advanced his cultivation, and received the Sky Abyss Sword from Dong Wanggong.
• Sun Wukong’s group reached Gao Family Village, where Zhu Ganglie reunited with Gao Cuilan, became Tang Sanzang’s disciple Zhu Bajie, and helped defeat Great King Yellow Wind with Huanglong and White Crane Boy.
• Zhu Bajie explored Flowing Sand River and brought the pilgrims to the Curtain Rolling General, who revealed that his skull necklace belonged to Tang Sanzang’s first nine incarnations and joined as Wujing.
• Guanyin, Lingji, and Manjushri enlisted Old Mother Lishan to arrange another trial, while Haotian persuaded Primordial Heavenly Venerate to join Hongmeng Immortal Palace and helped arrange Old Mother Lishan’s union with Dong Wanggong.
• Old Mother Lishan accepted the Pangu Banner and left with Haotian and Primordial Heavenly Venerate, while Guanyin arranged for Barefoot Immortal to take part in the Four Saints’ Trial.
• Dong Wanggong brought Old Mother Lishan to the Heavenly Dao Nirvana Pool, and the pilgrims reached a manor as Sha Heshang suggested asking for a vegetarian meal.

Sun Wukong’s schemes entangled the Western Teachings in disaster, while Guanyin Bodhisattva’s transformation and Daoist Duobao’s departure reshaped the powers around the pilgrimage. Tang Sanzang resisted the Yellow Robe Monster’s plot but broke a precept, and Sun Wukong ended the stretch holding the monster for judgment.

• Sun Wukong used a lust-inducing drug to disrupt Barefoot Immortal’s plan, leading to Zhu Bajie’s reunion with Gao Cuilan and the Western Bodhisattvas’ humiliation.
• Tang Sanzang’s group ate the Ginseng Fruits, and Guanyin Bodhisattva’s attempt to revive the ruined tree left Wuzhuang Temple’s garden devastated.
• Supreme Being Shanggu transformed Guanyin Bodhisattva, while Daoist Duobao withdrew from the Western Teachings and returned to the Great Dao.
• Saint Jieyin and Saint Zhunti sealed Guanyin Bodhisattva’s consciousness and took her back to Spirit Mountain as Dong Wanggong and Old Mother Lishan reached White Tiger Ridge.
• Dong Wanggong rescued White Bone Lady and brought her and Old Mother Lishan to Penglai, while Sun Wukong’s party resumed its journey after destroying White Bone Cave.
• The Yellow Robe Monster captured Tang Sanzang, but Wutian Buddha released him and urged him to resist Golden Cicada and the Western Teachings.
• Baihua Xiu absorbed Tang Sanzang’s Primordial Yang Origin without conceiving, and Sun Wukong defeated the Yellow Robe Monster and sealed his cultivation for the Bodhisattvas to judge.
• Dong Wanggong set out for the Primordial Continent, while Sun Wukong urged Manjushri Bodhisattva and Bodhisattva Lingji to let him kill the kneeling Yellow Robe Monster.

Tang Sanzang’s party passed through a series of conflicts involving the Western Teachings, Daoism, and the Demon Sect, while Guanyin Bodhisattva left the Western Teachings to become Guanyin Buddha. The arc ended as the Mystic Gate and Western Teachings representatives faced each other in Chechi Kingdom over sect fortune.

• Golden Cicada agreed to become Dao Companions with Baihua Xiu, while Guanyin Bodhisattva took her and her children to Western Spirit Mountain.
• Tang Sanzang used Doumu Yuanjun’s Golden Rope to subdue Golden Horn King and Silver Horn King, then reunited with his disciples and learned that Doumu Yuanjun had become Old Master Taiqing’s Dao Companion.
• In Wuji Kingdom, Tang Sanzang’s party uncovered the Quanzhen Daoist’s identity as Green Lion Spirit and confronted the revived King of Wuji, who followed the Bloodthirsty Demonic Path.
• King of Wuji corrupted Manjushri Bodhisattva, who cut off his manhood after Guanyin Bodhisattva refused to save him, while Quanzhen Daoist renounced Buddhism.
• Tang Sanzang’s party confronted Red Boy, and Daoist Duobao intervened when Guanyin Bodhisattva tried to claim the child as her attendant.
• Daoist Duobao defeated Guanyin Bodhisattva with Red Boy’s help, but Demon Lord Chonglou arrived and left with her after the Two Sages of the West declared her his Dao Companion.
• Dong Wanggong changed the Chechi Kingdom tribulation into a contest over sect fortune, and the Mystic Gate representatives arrived to support its three Imperial Advisors.
• Tang Sanzang’s party met the king and the three Imperial Advisors, then watched as Guiguzi, Grand Master Xuandu, and Shen Gongbao faced Saint Zhunti, Guanyin Buddha, and Future Buddha Bai Ze with their respective destinies manifest.
