Two People's Conditions

Lu Xi'an's first thought upon hearing the woman introduce herself was that there was hope for a ride.

Good thing, it wasn't a waste feeding them those water and Instant Noodles.

He carefully scanned the area below. Quite a few hyenas were already dead, but there were at least ten more inside and out.

These hyenas were incredibly smart. After their previous strategy of charging headfirst failed, they immediately changed tactics, deliberately hiding behind cover to avoid being aimed at by the guns upstairs.

It was precisely because of this that Yao Wei couldn't kill all the remaining hyenas with her gun.

Lu Xi'an searched around but couldn't find a leader among them, so he could only continue waiting with Yao Wei at the stairwell.

"You know a lot about these wild dogs?"

Yao Wei glanced at Lu Xi'an's gaze and asked.

Lu Xi'an replied, "Not much. I just know these things are like proctologists. I can't even find a leader among them. If you could find the leader, you could just shoot it dead."

After all, he had only seen these pack animals, which should have lived in Africa, in videos. Even their "cackling" sounds were something he was hearing for the first time.

Yao Wei murmured, her nerves tightening again.

Lu Xi'an felt that the woman was talking a lot more than before.

The situation remained at a stalemate, and soon it was dark. Lu Xi'an noticed the hyena pack becoming more agitated than before and suddenly guessed what these beasts were planning.

He immediately gave the Mechanical Dog a command: "Doggy, who's going upstairs to shine a light on it."

The Mechanical Dog had been in its box form since Yao Wei arrived, remaining silent.

This thing was too intelligent; Lu Xi'an couldn't figure out if it was avoiding risks or hiding in the shadows to target Yao Wei.

Regardless, it was 100% obedient to Lu Xi'an's commands.

As soon as Lu Xi'an finished speaking, the Mechanical Dog immediately changed back from its box form.

The astonishment on Yao Wei's face flashed and then immediately returned to her usual cold and sharp demeanor, but her peripheral vision kept darting towards the Doggy.

Lu Xi'an suspected she was worried if the Doggy would anal-probe her.

The sky quickly became completely dark.

The first night after the rain, there weren't too many clouds in the sky. But tonight, there were no stars or moon, and the villa was very dark, let alone the stairs built along the inner wall, which were pitch black.

The increasingly restless hyenas suddenly started calling out, as if communicating something.

"Doggy!"

Lu Xi'an warned. He held the Submachine Gun in his hand, and both he and Yao Wei were on high alert.

If Yao Wei couldn't stop the hyenas later, he would have to open fire.

The next moment, two beams of light suddenly lit up, shining towards the stairs.

A hyena was charging up under the cover of darkness and was suddenly exposed to Lu Xi'an and Yao Wei's sight.

"Bang!"

Yao Wei didn't hesitate for a moment and pulled the trigger.

The shot was incredibly accurate, a direct headshot.

The Mechanical Dog's two eyes didn't linger on the corpse; they immediately shone upwards.

Another hyena was charging up behind. The corpse in front didn't block it; it leaped directly over the body. But as soon as it was in mid-air, it was hit by the suddenly lit light and a bullet.

"Plop."

The bodies of two hyenas piled up.

"Cackle--"

The remaining hyenas seemed to be scared, their calls abruptly stopping. Not a single one charged upstairs anymore.

Seeing Yao Wei's pinpoint accuracy, like a sharpshooter, erupting under the guidance of the Doggy's light, Lu Xi'an suddenly thought of something.

He didn't waste any time and said, "Doggy, sweep below!"

The Mechanical Dog was already accustomed to Lu Xi'an's various commands. No matter how short Lu Xi'an's instructions were, it could analyze them. It immediately turned its gaze and swept downwards.

In the dark environment, the Mechanical Dog's dog eyes were invincible. With one sweep, it spotted a hyena.

In its panic, the hyena didn't have time to retreat behind cover.

Yao Wei understood and followed up with another shot.

"Bang!"

The other hyenas immediately scattered and fled outwards.

The Mechanical Dog didn't sweep with its dog eyes again, clearly indicating that the remaining hyenas had all escaped.

Lu Xi'an wondered if the Hyena he had just killed was the leader of the pack.

"Doggy, go down and check," Lu Xi'an gave a new order to the Mechanical Dog.

The Mechanical Dog then wobbled down the stairs and out of the villa.

Its small body was barely visible in the darkness, but the sound of metal colliding with the ground as it walked was audible to both Lu Xi'an and Yao Wei.

The two of them followed the sound of the Mechanical Dog's footsteps all the way outside the villa. The faint starlight made the Mechanical Dog's metallic sheen even more subdued.

Yao Wei's gaze towards the Mechanical Dog shifted slightly at this moment, tinged with envy.

Lu Xi'an kept a close watch on Yao Wei.

If he detected even a hint of desire to snatch it away in her expression, he would not hesitate to pull the trigger.

The submachine gun's magazine was already loaded with bullets. At this close range, and with a surprise attack, he didn't believe he couldn't kill this woman.

Fortunately, Yao Wei merely seemed envious and made no move.

The Mechanical Dog returned alone after a short while, its eyes lighting up and staying lit.

This was its signal to Lu Xi'an; if the Hyena pack returned, its dog eyes would flash twice.

The fact that they were lit and unblinking now meant that it was safe outside.

"Alright, it's nothing," Lu Xi'an said.

Yao Wei also breathed a sigh of relief and said, "Thank you."

This was already the umpteenth time she had expressed her gratitude.

Lu Xi'an finally felt at ease. It seemed this woman was truly different from the scumbags he had encountered from the Wolf Gang and Dog Gang before; she was a good person.

--At least, a good person at heart.

If she were a good person, it would be easier. Otherwise, he wouldn't dare to make demands so casually.

"If you really want to thank me, give me a ride. I can't stay here anymore, and I need to find a new place." He said to Yao Wei.

Yao Wei looked at Lu Xi'an with her usual calm eyes and said, "Trade you for the Cold Cream. You said it yourself."

Under the Mechanical Dog's light, half of Yao Wei's face was illuminated, and the other half was in shadow. The traces of sun and wind on her skin were indistinguishable, making her look even more beautiful.

But her gaze seemed even colder, as if she were absolutely unwilling to compromise.

Lu Xi'an said, "Then you have to make sure you take me to a place suitable for survival before letting me off."

Yao Wei hesitated for a long moment before nodding, "Okay."

So Lu Xi'an began to pack his things, stuffing what he needed into his backpack and grabbing what he had to. He would attach what needed to be attached to the Doggy.

The empty bottle that had contained clean water couldn't be thrown away either. He filled it with water from the outdoor swimming pool and took it with him.

Yao Wei, following his example, took out an empty bottle from her own backpack and filled it with water.

As for the iron bucket, she still carried it, just as Lu Xi'an had guessed, intending to find a gas station to fill it with gasoline.

While waiting for Yao Wei to fill her bottle, Lu Xi'an went to check on the Hyena corpses.

He knew they were scavengers and their flesh might contain toxic substances, making them unsuitable for consumption. Still, he held onto a sliver of hope and had the Doggy scan them.

After the Doggy finished scanning and he had completely given up hope, Lu Xi'an couldn't help but sigh, "What a pity..."

"Pity about what?" Yao Wei asked, coming out after filling her bottle.

The bottles had been put back into her backpack, which sagged considerably under the weight.

It seemed she had filled them with quite a bit of water.

"It's a pity that this dog meat is poisonous and can't be eaten," Lu Xi'an replied.

Yao Wei looked at the Hyena corpses and also said, "What a pity..."

Without further delay, the two of them walked out of the villa together.
