Background

Lu Xi'an discovered Doggy as a black metal box in an unnamed abandoned basement north of Wanhu Village. After his iris was scanned, he became its owner and had Doggy mark the basement's coordinates for a possible return. From then on, it accompanied him throughout his southward journey. 1

During Lu Xi'an's early survival alone, Doggy located supplies, caught rats, scanned meat for safety, helped reload magazines during attacks, opened secured storage, and powered the villa Lu Xi'an found on Day 99. Lu Xi'an considers it indispensable to his survival. 1

After meeting Yao Wei, Doggy became a central part of the pair's travel routine: it scouted gas stations and buildings, illuminated threats for Yao Wei to shoot, powered fuel pumps and an air conditioner, and searched for concealed entrances and valuables. 4 7 10 16 45

Lu Xi'an later modified Doggy with toy-motorcycle wheels and installed the control chip from a traded drone's remote into a recess in its head. The upgrade enabled Doggy to pilot and recharge the drone, greatly expanding its reconnaissance range. 11 13 32 33

Appearance

Doggy is a small, completely black mechanical dog with a metallic sheen. Its original short, gear-jointed legs give it a comically swaying gait, though its body is durable and fast-moving. 1
