Arc 3The Mangekyo Transplant

Shinji raided Danzo’s Root base for Sharingan, survived an assassination attempt, and began training in Medical Ninjutsu while investigating ways to preserve his eyes. He transplanted a Mangekyo Sharingan into Karin after she agreed, and promised to help rescue her mother from Kusagakure.

  • Shinji recruited Deidara into the Akatsuki and secretly assigned him to watch the outer circle.
  • Shinji and Sasuke were captured by Root, but Shinji arranged a raid on Danzo’s Sharingan vault and escaped with Meiqiu and a collection of old eyes.
  • A disguised Root shinobi attacked Shinji, Sasuke, and Neji, but Shinji killed the attacker with Spider Silk while ANBU watched without intervening.
  • Shinji examined the stolen Sharingan and identified his grandmother Chiri Uchiha’s Mangekyo, whose right-eye ability Naobi let him communicate with marked Spirit Bodies.
  • Shinji began studying Medical Ninjutsu at Konoha Hospital, quickly learned the Mystical Palm Technique, and trained in organ transplantation under Kaoru Kusa.
  • Shinji used Naobi to hold weekly meetings with Haku and Karin, then asked Karin to host his damaged Mangekyo, and she agreed after asking him to save her mother.
  • Karin revealed that Kusagakure had used her to help target Naruto and intended to make her the Nine-Tails’ Jinchuriki.
  • Shinji concealed Karin’s changed eyes with dark-tinted goggles, transplanted a Mangekyo Sharingan into her, and promised to arrange help for her mother.
Chapters 51–75 Vol. 1 Read

Ch. 51Pressure Wouldn't Disappear

Shinji claimed Enmu’s Dream Construction ability and gave Haku and Karin the Small Drum and Haste, warning them that demon-related spoils and memories could corrupt the Shinobi World if revealed. He sealed the survivors’ memories of the demons, planted a false memory of a fire, and had Haku and Karin set the town ablaze to support the illusion.

  • Shinji claimed Dream Construction for himself, assigned the Small Drum to Karin and Haste to Haku, and warned them never to reveal anything connected to demons.
  • Shinji told Haku and Karin that leaked demon spoils could link the Shinobi World to the demons’ world and ultimately destroy both worlds.
  • Shinji and his companions gathered the town’s surviving residents, and Shinji used his Mangekyō Sharingan to seal away their demon memories and implant memories of a fire.
  • Shinji ordered Haku and Karin to set fires around town, making the survivors’ false memories more convincing.
  • The Lamp gave Shinji an A rating.

Ch. 52An Unexpected Encounter

After earning an A-rank reward, Shinji gave up a Shinobi World's Gift for Merit Points and followed Karin's detected Chakra signature to a temple. There he encountered Deidara before the young shinobi had joined the Akatsuki Organization, and claimed to be there to recruit him.

  • Shinji gave up the Shinobi World's Gift and received 25 Merit Points, bringing his total to 46.
  • Karin detected a hidden, shifting Chakra signature in a distant forest, so Shinji, Haku, and Karin went to investigate.
  • The trio tracked the signature to a dilapidated temple, where Haku spotted candlelight inside.
  • Shinji entered the temple and recognized the blond boy there as Deidara, who had not yet joined the Akatsuki Organization.
  • Deidara pulled out Explosive Clay, and Shinji told him he had come to invite him to join the Akatsuki.

Ch. 53The Inner-Circle Member

Shinji used his Sharingan to defeat Deidara in an illusion and recruited him as an inner-circle member of the Akatsuki Organization. After Shinji, Haku, and Karin left the temple, a shadowy figure watched them and decided to report what he had learned about the organization.

  • Deidara attacked Shinji and the others with Explosive Clay, but Shinji revealed that Deidara had been trapped in a genjutsu and made the ruined hall appear restored.
  • Shinji dazzled Deidara with his Dojutsu, destroyed his Explosive Clay, and persuaded him to honor their bet and join the Akatsuki Organization.
  • Shinji named Deidara an inner-circle member and ordered him to join the outer circle undercover, watch its members, and keep his status secret.
  • Haku began to ask Shinji about what had happened, but Shinji stopped him; Karin said she could no longer identify the chakra she had sensed earlier.
  • Shinji led Haku and Karin back toward their apartment, while a hidden figure revealed that he had discarded stolen chakra to avoid being tracked and planned to report his suspicions about the Akatsuki Organization.

Ch. 54Grandmother's Mangekyo!

After his Mangekyō Sharingan left him with severe eye discomfort, Shinji searched the Uchiha genealogy for a way to obtain an Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan. He suspected his grandmother Chiri Uchiha had awakened the Mangekyō and created Izanami, but Meiqiu confirmed her Sharingan was not among those in Danzo’s vault.

  • Shinji returned to his apartment after using his Mangekyō extensively and realized he needed to find an Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan before his Dojutsu ran out.
  • At the Ninja Academy, Shinji noticed Haku and Karin exchanging discreet glances despite not speaking to each other.
  • Shinji visited Konoha’s archives and found his family in the Uchiha Clan genealogy, which showed that his father had a Three-Tomoe Sharingan but his mother had never awakened one.
  • Shinji noticed that his grandmother Chiri Uchiha had served in the Konoha Military Police Force and suspected she was the Mangekyō user who created Izanami.
  • Shinji summoned Meiqiu and asked whether Chiri Uchiha’s Sharingan had been in Danzo’s vault, and Meiqiu said it had not.

Ch. 55Why Are You Only Getting Here Now? (Third Update!)

Shinji realized Danzo’s old, unlabeled jars might contain Mangekyō Sharingan reclaimed by the Uchiha Clan and decided to seize them quickly. At the temple, Deidara met Itachi Uchiha, Juzo Biwa, and Sasori of the Red Sands as they came to recruit him, and he received an Akatsuki cloak but no mask.

  • Shinji asked Meiqiu about unlabeled Sharingan jars in Danzo’s secret storehouse, and Meiqiu confirmed that some jars looked old.
  • Shinji reasoned that the old jars might contain Mangekyō Sharingan kept by Uchiha elites and worried Danzo might discover the secret after the theft of Fugaku Uchiha’s Mangekyō.
  • Shinji decided he had to take every Sharingan in Danzo’s possession as soon as possible.
  • Itachi Uchiha, Juzo Biwa, and Sasori of the Red Sands entered the temple and met Deidara.
  • Deidara recognized the Akatsuki, demanded his cloak and mask, and received the Red Cloud outfit from Itachi Uchiha, but found that it had no mask.

Ch. 56Wilderness Survival

Shinji prepared for the Academy’s outdoor survival exercise while suspecting that the event and its two participating classes were unusual. At the Forest of Death, the students began setting up camp, but an ANBU assigned to protect Sasuke suddenly fell from the trees, leaving the danger unresolved.

  • Shinji prepared ninja tools and reconsidered how to take the Sharingan from Danzo, deciding against a direct attack for now.
  • At noon, Shinji discovered that Sasuke and Naruto’s class was the only other class joining the exercise, and Naruto had returned from the hospital.
  • Iruka and Mizuki led the students into the Forest of Death, where they set up camp despite Shinji’s warnings to Neji to stay alert.
  • Mizuki told Iruka that ANBU were protecting Sasuke, but an ANBU fell from the air and crashed to the ground.

Ch. 57The Mysterious Man

A mysterious man attacked the students during their training, and Shinji recognized him as likely Orochimaru, who appeared to be targeting him and Sasuke. Shinji used a trap and a powerful Great Fireball Technique to start a forest fire and help the group escape, but the mysterious man emerged unharmed and watched them flee.

  • The mysterious man knocked Mizuki and Iruka unconscious and approached the students, while Neji sensed his enormous Chakra reserves.
  • The man confronted Sasuke, unleashed overwhelming killing intent, and focused his attention on Sasuke and Shinji as Haku led the other students away.
  • Shinji told Sasuke and Neji to cover him while he threw wire-linked kunai with Explosive Tags at the mysterious man.
  • Shinji followed the explosions with a powerful Great Fireball Technique aimed at the treetops to alert the village, then dragged Sasuke and Neji away.
  • The mysterious man emerged from the smoke unharmed and called the encounter interesting as he watched the three flee.

Ch. 58Leave the Rest Alone! (Third Update!)

Shinji, Sasuke, and Neji tried to escape a mysterious man, but their attacks failed to stop him. After Root shinobi knocked out Sasuke and Neji, Shinji pretended to be unconscious so he could be taken to Root Base, only to hear the men order that the others be left behind.

  • Shinji led Sasuke and Neji in an attempt to flee the mysterious man, then set a wire-and-Explosive Tag trap that briefly engulfed their pursuer in an explosion.
  • The mysterious man escaped the trap, defeated Sasuke and Neji, and forced Shinji to use wires and kunai to pull them away before continuing their escape.
  • After Neji and Sasuke asked to walk, Root shinobi appeared and knocked both boys unconscious.
  • Shinji realized Danzo was involved and pretended to be unconscious, hoping Root would take him to Root Base.
  • The Root shinobi ordered one another to take Sasuke Uchiha and leave Shinji and Neji alone.

Ch. 59Why Didn't You Take Me Too?

Root operatives abducted Shinji and Sasuke and imprisoned them in the Root Base, where Shinji began a plan to steal Danzo’s Sharingan. He sent Meiqiu and a Shadow Clone to raid the vault and summoned another ninja cat to help create a diversion.

  • Shinji repeatedly resisted the Root operatives until they took him along with Sasuke.
  • ANBU found Neji unconscious, learned that Shinji and Sasuke were missing, and reported the situation to Lord Hokage.
  • The Root operatives brought Shinji and Sasuke to the Root Base, confiscated their tools, and locked them in adjacent cells.
  • Shinji assessed his restraints and the time available, then used the Shadow Clone Technique and summoned Meiqiu.
  • Shinji instructed Meiqiu to take as many Sharingan as possible, and Meiqiu and the Shadow Clone escaped the cell to begin the raid.
  • Shinji summoned a second ninja cat to create chaos and cover the operation.

Ch. 60Moved!

Shinji and Feng Ji escaped Danzo's prison, freed Sasuke, and triggered an alarm before Shinji used a combined fire-and-wind attack to hold off Root shinobi. The Third Hokage and Danzo arrived, and an explosion from the direction of Danzo's vault interrupted a report that Sasuke had fled there.

  • Feng Ji cut Shinji's chains and cell door, then freed Sasuke from the neighboring cell.
  • Shinji and Sasuke escaped, but Shinji deliberately triggered an alarm to create an opening for his Shadow Clone and Meiqiu.
  • Shinji told Sasuke to flee while he held off the Root shinobi, directing Sasuke toward Danzo's vault.
  • Shinji and Feng Ji combined Fire Release and Wind Release, creating a huge fireball that forced the Root shinobi to abandon their pursuit of Sasuke.
  • The Third Hokage and Danzo arrived with ANBU, and a Root shinobi reported that Sasuke had run toward the vault before an explosion erupted there.

Ch. 61Bitterness

After being questioned about the escape from a secret Root facility, Shinji protected Sasuke from suspicion and celebrated with his classmates. Neji left the barbecue gathering after Hinata thanked him, and Shinji thought about the Caged Bird Tenseigan.

  • An ANBU questioned Shinji about the mysterious man, his summoned cat, and whether Sasuke had betrayed him, and Shinji denied that Sasuke had used him.
  • The ANBU revealed that Sharingan had been stolen from the secret facility and said Sasuke was being held in the Hokage Building.
  • Shinji and Neji left the ANBU Building and were met by classmates who thanked them for saving everyone.
  • Shion suggested celebrating with barbecue, and Shinji and Neji were pulled along by their classmates.
  • Hinata thanked Neji, but he rejected her thanks and left after hearing classmates discuss the Hyuga Clan's main and branch families.
  • Shinji watched Neji leave and thought of the Caged Bird Tenseigan.

Ch. 62Thrilling!

Orochimaru praised Sasuke Uchiha’s resolve and Sharingan but dismissed Shinji Uchiha as powerless without awakened eyes, while ordering Kabuto to give Sasuke a little stimulus. Danzo secretly ordered surveillance on Sasuke and arranged for a disguised attacker to kill Shinji, leaving Shinji in danger.

  • Orochimaru told Kabuto that Sasuke’s resolve and Sharingan had impressed him, while Shinji’s alertness had also caught his attention despite lacking the Sharingan.
  • Orochimaru ordered Kabuto to arrange a stimulus for Sasuke so he would not waste his talent at the Ninja Academy.
  • Danzo argued against provoking Sasuke at the Hokage Office, then privately ordered Root to monitor Sasuke and killed a subordinate over the missing Sharingan.
  • Danzo decided to target Shinji, learned Root had reconstructed the Forest of Death attacker’s appearance, and ordered a disguised operative to bring him Shinji’s head.

Ch. 63Here We Go Again?

Shinji worried that Konoha might investigate him over the Root Base incident, while Sasuke and Neji reflected on their defeat by the mysterious figure. As Shinji considered how to gain the Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan and Tenseigan, the mysterious figure appeared again behind them.

  • Shinji left the barbecue restaurant and worried that Konoha might use a mind probe on Sasuke and then investigate him.
  • Shinji met Sasuke, who said the village had released him because it still needed him to deal with the Nine-Tails.
  • Shinji and Sasuke encountered Neji by the river, and the three discussed the mysterious figure's strength.
  • Shinji privately considered using Meiqiu's discoveries, Sasuke's future Mangekyō Sharingan, and Neji's Byakugan to pursue stronger dojutsu.
  • Shinji sensed killing intent and spotted the mysterious figure in a nearby tree, startling Sasuke and Neji.

Ch. 64The Unspoken Permission (Third Update!)

Shinji, Sasuke, and Neji fought a Root shinobi disguised as the mysterious figure, and Shinji realized the village was allowing Danzo’s attack to go unchecked. As the Root shinobi pursued Shinji through a grove, an unseen thread severed his head.

  • Shinji recognized that the attacker was a Root shinobi rather than Orochimaru, and Sasuke and Neji joined the fight.
  • The three held their ground together, but the Root shinobi wounded Shinji and knocked Sasuke and Neji aside before chasing Shinji into a grove.
  • Shinji saw two ANBU watch without intervening and concluded the village leadership was tacitly permitting Danzo’s attack.
  • Shinji threw his last Kunai at the Root shinobi, who deflected it and continued after him.
  • An unseen thread severed the Root shinobi’s head as he passed through the grove.

Ch. 65Growth (Fourth Update!)

Shinji defeated a Root ninja who had impersonated the mysterious man and attacked him, Neji, and Sasuke. After getting their wounds treated, Shinji returned home and summoned Meiqiu in secret.

  • Shinji explained that he had killed the fake mysterious man by trapping him with Spider Silk, while Neji and Sasuke reacted with disbelief.
  • Two ANBU arrived and claimed their duty was only to protect Sasuke; Shinji and Neji knew they had been nearby during the fight but had not intervened.
  • Sasuke questioned the ANBU about the attacker, then Shinji, Neji, and Sasuke went to the hospital for treatment.
  • Neji warned Shinji that the attack seemed to have targeted him, and Shinji reassured him before they parted ways.
  • Shinji checked his apartment for surveillance, went into the bathroom, and summoned Meiqiu.

Ch. 66Danzo Has No Eye for Quality!

Meiqiu brought Shinji nineteen pairs of Sharingan stolen from Danzo’s secret vault, though more than a dozen jars were missing. Shinji used Reverse Summoning to reach the Forest of Death and activated Susanoo in a cave to examine the old jars.

  • Meiqiu told Shinji how Danzo’s traps destroyed his Shadow Clone and how he escaped Root with the Sharingan jars.
  • Shinji counted nineteen pairs of Sharingan and learned that more than a dozen newer jars were missing from the vault.
  • Shinji decided the old jars might contain valuable Mangekyō Sharingan, but could not identify them by sight.
  • Shinji gave Meiqiu his blood and ordered him to reverse-summon him to the Forest of Death.
  • Shinji created a Shadow Clone to guard his apartment, then let Meiqiu summon his real body to the forest.
  • Shinji dismissed Meiqiu, checked a cave for surveillance, and activated Susanoo to begin examining the old jars.

Ch. 67Opening the Cans!

Shinji opened ten old cans of Sharingan, enduring pain as he used the Susanoo Lamp to inspect each pair. The final can held Mangekyō Sharingan with a blood relation to him, likely Chiri Uchiha’s, and in better condition than the others, though its left eye was blind.

  • Shinji released his control of Fugaku Uchiha’s Mangekyō and placed the eyes in a new nutrient canister before testing the first can’s decayed Three-Tomoe Sharingan.
  • The second can contained Mangekyō whose right eye had lost its Dojutsu after its owner used Izanagi, while its left eye had also suffered severe damage.
  • Shinji found more decayed Three-Tomoe Sharingan and another pair of Mangekyō with no remaining Dojutsu, then realized the damaged Mangekyō owners had used Izanagi.
  • After opening the remaining cans, Shinji found that the tenth pair of Mangekyō had a blood relation to him and was in better condition than the other pairs, despite its blind left eye.

Ch. 68Naobi and Magatsu

Shinji discovered that one usable pair of Mangekyo belonged to his grandmother, Chiri Uchiha, and considered how to restore the permanently blinded eyes without wasting the rare pairs he had collected. He identified her surviving Dojutsu, Naobi, while the purpose of her lost Magatsu remained unknown.

  • Shinji recognized Chiri Uchiha's Mangekyo and found that it had been preserved better than the other pairs.
  • Shinji considered using the Power of All Things or White Zetsu Cells to restore the blinded Mangekyo, but feared the risks of First Hokage cells.
  • Shinji rejected fusing eyes from different pairs because the process could destroy a scarce pair of Mangekyo and chose to wait while he could still control Fugaku Uchiha's pair.
  • Shinji learned that Chiri Uchiha's lost left-eye Dojutsu was called Magatsu and that her right-eye Dojutsu, Naobi, enabled spiritual communication with marked Spirit Bodies within a hundred kilometers.
  • Shinji wondered whether Naobi could support remote meetings and what effect Magatsu had possessed.

Ch. 69Medical Ninjutsu

Shinji considered how to preserve his damaged Mangekyo Sharingan and wondered whether Karin’s Uzumaki vitality could help nourish transplanted eyes or even enable their evolution. He then asked Iruka for permission to learn Medical Ninjutsu.

  • Shinji told Haku he had slept poorly and discussed the unresolved attack on him.
  • Shinji realized Karin might be a suitable host to nourish Mangekyo Sharingan because of her Uzumaki constitution and healing Chakra.
  • Shinji theorized that combining a powerful Sage Body with Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan might produce the Power of All Things and evolve the eyes into the Rinnegan.
  • Haku interrupted Shinji’s thoughts, and Shinji decided that any experiments involving Karin would require her consent and benefit her too.
  • After class, Shinji asked Iruka if he could learn Medical Ninjutsu.

Ch. 70Destiny

Shinji asked Iruka to help him learn Medical Ninjutsu, hoping to prepare for future Sharingan transplants, while considering Sasuke and Neji as possible future attendants. The Third approved Shinji’s internship at Konoha Hospital and ordered Kakashi to get close to him and watch for resentment toward the village.

  • Shinji asked Iruka to submit an application for him to learn Medical Ninjutsu, and Iruka agreed.
  • At the training ground, Shinji watched Neji train and Sasuke practice throwing kunai with his Sharingan, and considered recruiting them as attendants.
  • Shinji recalled the suspicious detour Karin had led him through during the recent invasion and wondered whether her sensing had failed or something else had happened.
  • Iruka reported Shinji’s application to the Third, who discussed Danzo’s actions with Utatane Koharu and Mitokado Homura.
  • The Third approved Shinji’s internship at Konoha Hospital and decided Kakashi should approach Shinji and monitor him for hostility toward the village.

Ch. 71A New Classmate (Third Update!)

Shinji studied Medical Ninjutsu under Kaoru Kusa and rapidly learned the Mystical Palm Technique, experimenting with healing a fish’s severed head. Meanwhile, Kimimaro joined Naruto and Sasuke’s class and challenged Sasuke.

  • Shinji reported to Konoha Hospital and met Kaoru Kusa, who gave him Human Anatomy Atlas to study.
  • Shinji spent a week reading anatomy and Medical Ninjutsu books, then answered Kaoru’s questions about them.
  • Kaoru demonstrated the Mystical Palm Technique, and Shinji quickly learned to use it.
  • Shinji severed a fish’s head and experimented with directing its healing, but the fish remained dead.
  • Mizuki introduced Kimimaro to Naruto and Sasuke’s class, and Kimimaro challenged Sasuke.

Ch. 72Genius!

Kimimaro challenged Sasuke at the Ninja Academy and easily knocked him down, provoking Sasuke into using the Great Fireball Technique before Kimimaro struck him again. Meanwhile, Shinji advanced quickly in medical training, and Kaoru Kusa arranged for him to assist with surgery starting the next day.

  • Sasuke charged Kimimaro, but Kimimaro kicked him to the ground and taunted him about Itachi sparing his life.
  • Sasuke lost his temper and launched the Great Fireball Technique at Kimimaro during their spar.
  • Kimimaro used the Body Flicker Technique to get behind Sasuke and punch him across the field, shocking the students and teachers.
  • Shinji impressed Kaoru Kusa with his rapid progress in Medical Ninjutsu and precise Chakra control.
  • Kaoru Kusa told Shinji he would assist with surgery and learn organ transplantation and repair starting the next day.
  • Kakashi visited the lab and asked Kaoru Kusa how Shinji was doing, and she called him a genius.

Ch. 73Projected Space

Shinji learned that Kimimaro had defeated Sasuke and suspected Orochimaru had sent him to provoke Sasuke into growing stronger. He secretly marked Haku and Karin with Naobi, then summoned their Spirit Body projections and asked Karin to consider nourishing his damaged Mangekyō Sharingan.

  • Haku warned Shinji that Kimimaro might target him or Neji after defeating Sasuke, and Shinji suspected Orochimaru was using Kimimaro to spur Sasuke on.
  • Shinji remained wary of Danzo despite the recent disappearance of assassination attempts and Root shinobi, and he secretly marked Haku and Karin with Naobi at the academy.
  • Shinji activated Naobi that night and brought Haku and Karin’s Spirit Body projections to a virtual meeting space, where he explained how it worked and announced weekly information exchanges.
  • Haku reported practicing the Nintaijutsu Rapid Speed, while Karin reported training her Mind’s Eye of the Kagura.
  • Shinji dismissed Haku and asked Karin to consider letting his partially damaged Mangekyō Sharingan be transplanted into her so they could be nourished; he promised to protect her eyes and grant her one request if she agreed.
  • Karin asked for time to decide, and Shinji gave her a week before ending the meeting.

Ch. 74Rolling Up! (Third Update)

Shinji spent a week practicing organ transplant surgery while the Ninja Academy’s students intensified their training after Kimimaro defeated Sasuke repeatedly. Karin agreed to receive a half-damaged Mangekyo transplant in exchange for Shinji’s help saving her mother, whom Kusagakure was holding over her.

  • Shinji considered how White Zetsu Cells and Deidara might help restore damaged Mangekyo, then studied medical textbooks and worried about the limits of his eyes.
  • Shinji trained in organ transplant surgery with Kaoru Kusa, performing more than a hundred operations on animals.
  • Kimimaro repeatedly defeated Sasuke, prompting Sasuke, Neji, and other students to train harder while Kimimaro stopped challenging his rivals.
  • Shinji summoned Haku and Karin with Naobi and learned that no ghosts had been detected since their previous fight.
  • Karin agreed to undergo the Mangekyo transplant after Shinji explained the surgery and how she could conceal her changed pupils.
  • Karin asked Shinji to save her mother and revealed that Kusagakure was using her mother to force her to work for them.

Ch. 75Replacing Eyes!

Karin revealed that Kusagakure had planted her in Konoha to make her a future Nine-Tails Jinchuriki, with Orochimaru likely involved. Shinji arranged for her to hide her eyes, then transplanted a Mangekyo Sharingan into her and promised to help rescue her mother.

  • Karin told Shinji that Kusagakure had arranged her meeting with Jiraiya and forced her to distract the ANBU guarding Naruto.
  • Karin recalled that Kusagakure wanted her to become a Jinchuriki, and Shinji deduced that they planned to kill Naruto and have Konoha choose her to host the Nine-Tails.
  • At Shinji's instruction, Karin wore dark-tinted goggles, and Mizuki questioned her about them after class.
  • Shinji secretly entered Karin's apartment and transplanted a Mangekyo Sharingan into her, warning her not to activate it casually.
  • Shinji kept Karin's removed eyes and promised to arrange help for her mother.
