The Third used the Reaper Death Seal to try to take Orochimaru’s soul with him, but Kabuto Yakushi interrupted the sealing by killing the Third. Orochimaru survived, captured Sasuke, and set out with Kabuto to seize Shinji Uchiha’s Mangekyō Sharingan before leaving Konoha.

• The Third activated the Reaper Death Seal with help from a shadow clone and began dragging Orochimaru’s soul from his body.
• Orochimaru realized the Third had chosen a different Reaper mask, leaving Kabuto Yakushi no way to free him if he was sealed.
• As Orochimaru’s soul was nearly pulled out, Kabuto Yakushi arrived and cut the Third’s throat with a kunai, ending the seal.
• The Third died, and Orochimaru recovered while Kabuto apologized for arriving late after capturing Sasuke.

Orochimaru’s forces arrived at the Konoha Military Police Force building after defeating the Third and capturing Sasuke, leaving Shinji and his classmates isolated. As the group approached, Nameless went out alone to face them, and Shikamaru questioned Shinji’s decision.

• Shikamaru worried that Sasuke had lost to Orochimaru while Shinji remained calm about the distant battle.
• Tayuya, Guren, and Jugo appeared outside the building, alarming the classmates who knew they had been imprisoned.
• Orochimaru and Kabuto Yakushi arrived carrying the unconscious Sasuke, and the classmates realized Konoha’s defenses had likely fallen.

• Nameless left the headquarters to face Orochimaru and his allies, while Sasuke warned her to run.
• Tayuya attacked Nameless, who knocked her unconscious with a single hand chop.
• Nameless trapped Orochimaru in a genjutsu and burned him with Amaterasu.

A mysterious Mangekyo Uchiha overwhelmed Kabuto Yakushi’s forces and survived his Senjutsu attack, leaving Sasuke to realize that his Susanoo had not reached its full potential.

• The unknown woman used Amaterasu to burn Kabuto Yakushi’s five Impure World Bodies while Guren rescued Jugo from the flames.
• Kabuto Yakushi sent Guren to wake Orochimaru and trapped the unknown woman inside a rock dome with Inorganic Reincarnation.
• Kabuto Yakushi struck the dome with White Stimulus Technique, but the red Susanoo emerged intact.
• The unknown woman told Sasuke that Susanoo could withstand the attack and that he had merely reached his own limit.

Nameless fought Kabuto Yakushi to a standstill while Shinji watched from the Police Headquarters and planned to uncover who was backing Orochimaru. Elsewhere, an unidentified newcomer entered Konoha, overpowered the Hyuga Clan members, and reached for Hiashi’s forehead.

• Nameless withstood Kabuto Yakushi’s Sage Techniques and exchanged powerful blows with him, impressing Sasuke and the classmates watching from the Police Headquarters.
• Shinji watched the battle and resolved to keep Orochimaru and his group in Konoha so he could uncover who was targeting him.
• Guren tried and failed to dispel the genjutsu affecting Orochimaru.
• An unidentified figure arrived in Konoha, killed a Konoha Ninja who questioned them, and entered the Hyuga Clan Grounds.
• The figure defeated the Hyuga Clan members who confronted them, then reached toward Hiashi’s forehead.

Otsutsuki Toneri invaded the Hyuga Clan Grounds and took Hiashi’s Byakugan after defeating him. As Toneri prepared to kill Hiashi, the masked man and Kabuto Yakushi rushed past while still fighting, leaving the battle’s outcome unresolved.

• Toneri confronted Hiashi and demanded his Byakugan, claiming he would purify the Shinobi World.
• Hyuga Branch Family Members attacked Toneri, but he immobilized and hurled them aside, forcing Hiashi to send Hinata and Hanabi away.
• Hiashi fought Toneri to protect his daughters, but Toneri defeated him and removed his Byakugan.
• Toneri prepared to deliver a final blow to Hiashi, then turned as the masked man and Kabuto Yakushi arrived, battling at tremendous speed.
• The masked man and Kabuto Yakushi raced past Toneri without stopping their fight.

After Otsutsuki Toneri sensed the danger posed by Nameless and Kabuto Yakushi, he left Hiashi behind and vanished. In Konoha, Danzo took charge after learning that the Third Hokage had died, then prepared to exploit the conflict between Orochimaru and Shinji Uchiha to seize control of the village.

• Otsutsuki Toneri sensed that Nameless and Kabuto Yakushi were powerful threats, then put away the Byakugan he had taken from Hiashi and disappeared.
• Danzo returned to the chaotic Hokage Building with his subordinates, took the Hokage's seat, and ordered the Intelligence Squad to locate Orochimaru and Hiruzen.
• An Intelligence Squad ninja reported that Hiruzen's body had been found in the Forest of Death, and Danzo realized the Hokage's death gave him an opportunity to reclaim power.
• Danzo learned that Orochimaru's group was heading to the Konoha Military Police Force Building for Shinji Uchiha and recognized Shinji as a rival claimant to authority in the village.

Danzo arrived at the Military Police Force building and tried to seize control of the confrontation, using the chaos to target Sasuke and Shinji. As he began choking Sasuke, Nameless landed with Kabuto Yakushi in her grasp.

• Guren weighed whether to flee while Orochimaru remained trapped in a genjutsu, Tayuya lay unconscious, and Jugo was gravely wounded.
• Sasuke recovered enough to stand and confronted Guren, who remained wary of Shinji inside the building.
• Danzo arrived with Konoha Ninja, saw a chance to claim authority and credit for capturing Orochimaru, and ordered Sasuke to stand down.
• Sasuke refused to hand Orochimaru over, so Danzo grabbed him and secretly threatened to kill him and blame him for colluding with the Akatsuki Organization.

Nameless defended Sasuke from Danzo and his Root forces, revealing her Mangekyō Sharingan and red Susanoo. Shinji came out of the Military Police Force building, condemned Danzo’s attack, and ordered the remaining Root members killed, leaving Danzo furious and isolated.

• Nameless arrived carrying the unconscious Kabuto Yakushi and demanded to know why Danzo was attacking Sasuke.
• Danzo ordered the Root members to attack Nameless, but she survived their combined ninjutsu and explosives by shielding herself with Susanoo.
• Nameless retaliated and killed most of Danzo’s Root members while Shinji and the students watched from the Military Police Force building.
• Shinji led the students outside, rejected Danzo’s order to arrest Nameless, and accused Danzo’s forces of attacking the Military Police Force.
• Shinji ordered the remaining Root members executed, and Nameless and Karin killed them while Danzo protested.

Shinji used Danzo’s attack on the Uchiha remnants to claim authority over Konoha after the Third Hokage’s death. The village’s shinobi accepted Shinji as their temporary commander, while Sasuke asked to kill Danzo.

• Danzo regretted bringing too few capable Root subordinates as Shinji’s forces overwhelmed his remaining men.
• Shinji accused Danzo of conspiring with Orochimaru and announced his arrest on behalf of the village.

• The Intelligence Squad and other Konoha Ninja demanded that Danzo surrender for the village’s sake, but Danzo tried to flee and was forced back into the fight.

Shinji watched the Konoha Ninja battle Danzo and insisted that they capture him, keeping Sasuke and the Uchiha from joining the fight so the village would be responsible for bringing Danzo to justice. After Danzo was captured, Shinji removed Shisui Uchiha’s Mangekyō Sharingan from his right eye.

• Shinji placed Shisui's Mangekyō Sharingan in a nutrient tank and announced that he would take everything Danzo claimed to own.
• Shinji ordered Konoha Ninja to expose Danzo's right arm, revealing ten transplanted Sharingan, and Karin removed them one by one.
• Shinji stored the ten eyes and ordered the Sealing Team to undo Danzo's restraints despite Sasuke's protests.

Shikamaru realized Shinji was using Danzo’s humiliation to challenge the authority of the Elder advisors and the Hokage’s faction.

• Shinji ordered the Sealing Team to suppress the Wood Release inside Danzo, who remained alive after Nameless used Yachihoko to draw out some of his Yang Release Chakra.
• Shinji refused to let the Sealing Team cut Danzo free from the tree and ordered the Military Police Force to guard him there until the Hokage returned.
• The Sealing Team chained Danzo to the tree with chains inscribed with Sealing Jutsu, then stuffed his mouth with cloth after he threatened the village ninja.

Shinji planned to use Danzo’s crimes to undermine the Hokage faction’s prestige, so he kept Danzo alive. After questioning Kabuto, Shinji ordered the Sealing Team to arrest Orochimaru’s group, and Kabuto, Guren, and Tayuya surrendered.

• Shinji aimed to expose the Hokage faction’s secret crimes through Danzo and decided Danzo could not die yet.
• Shinji found Orochimaru trapped in the Nameless’s Tsukuyomi while Kabuto and Tayuya recovered from their defeats.
• Shinji asked Kabuto who had sent the group to attack the village, and Kabuto said they had come to rescue Jugo and Guren.

After defeating Danzo and containing Orochimaru’s group, Shinji managed Konoha’s crisis and investigated the Third’s death. He learned that Hyuga Hiashi had lost his Byakugan to Otsutsuki Toneri, whom Shinji had knowingly allowed to escape with it.

• Shinji ordered the village’s casualties tallied and its situation reported to the Fifth, then visited the crowded Konoha Hospital.
• An ANBU told Shinji that the Third had died from a throat wound and the Reaper Death Seal, and that Kabuto Yakushi’s footprints suggested he had interfered in the Third’s fight with Orochimaru.
• Shinji instructed the ANBU to report that Danzo had failed to help the Third and had later tried to seize the spoils, evidence of his collusion with Orochimaru.

Shinji released Orochimaru’s group under ANBU escort, intending to use Orochimaru and his reanimated fighters in the coming struggle over the Ten-Tails.

• Shinji used Kotoamatsukami to rewrite Orochimaru’s will, making him utterly loyal, and learned the eye would need four or five years to recover before it could be used again.

In Rain Country, Akatsuki members Kakuzu and Hidan waited for their partners to regroup before pursuing their jinchuriki capture mission, only to learn Moryo and Shinnō had gone missing.

• Tanjiro pursued Narume through the shifting Infinite Castle until her depleted strength forced her to stop resisting.
• Tanjiro absorbed Narume and her biwa, gaining the Infinite Castle Blood Demon Art.
• Tanjiro sensed Muku in Rain Country and planned to absorb him before hunting the Lantern Bearer protecting the Shinobi World.
• Kakuzu and Hidan searched Rain Country for a chance to capture Naruto, who was at the Allied Forces' headquarters with Tsunade.

While Kakuzu’s team planned to use the Box of Paradise to weaken the Allied Forces, Hiruko and Ranmaru attacked Kirigakure to draw out the hidden Fourth Mizukage. Scorpion and Deidara tracked a figure who fled the village and entered a hidden cave, hoping the trail would lead them to the Mizukage.

• Kakuzu told Itachi, Hidan, and Juzo Biwa that the leader had ordered them to hold position, then proposed using the Box of Paradise to trouble the Allied Forces.
• Hiruko and Ranmaru attacked Kirigakure with Hiruko’s flying Chimera while the village’s weakened forces struggled to defend themselves.
• A figure escaped Kirigakure and entered a hidden cave after giving a birdlike signal.
• Scorpion and Deidara followed the figure from the air and confirmed that the attack was meant to draw out the hidden Fourth Mizukage.

Scorpion and Deidara defeated and captured the wounded Fourth Mizukage while Hiruko and Ranmaru ravaged Kirigakure. At the Ninja Village Allied Forces headquarters, Shikaku Nara reported the attack and capture to the Five Kage, leaving Mei Terumi shocked.

• Scorpion and Deidara tracked a Kirigakure messenger to Fourth Mizukage Karatachi Yagura and attacked him outside the cave.
• Scorpion and Deidara overpowered the badly injured Yagura and stopped him from killing himself, then sealed him and signaled Kirigakure.
• Hiruko and Ranmaru learned of the success, regrouped, and left Kirigakure after attacking the village without meeting resistance.
• Shikaku Nara told the Five Kage that Akatsuki had inflicted heavy losses on Kirigakure and apparently captured Fourth Mizukage, prompting Mei Terumi to react in shock.

The Five Kage discussed the Akatsuki Organization’s attacks on Konoha and Kirigakure and how to protect the Allied Forces while searching for Nagato. The chapter ended with the Grass Country camp reporting a devastating attack by the monster from Kusagakure’s Box of Paradise and urgently requesting reinforcements.

• The Kage learned that the Akatsuki Organization had defeated and captured the Fourth Mizukage after attacking Kirigakure.
• Mei Terumi called for retaliation, while Ōnoki, the Fourth Raikage, Pakura, and Tsunade discussed the Allied Forces’ setbacks and the need to find Nagato and contact Itachi Uchiha.
• The Five Kage agreed to seek Itachi’s help, defend their villages, and secretly move important records, supplies, and children under the Seed Plan.

Kakashi recruited Ryūsetsuna and Chiyo for an elite mission to reinforce the Grass Country camp after it was attacked by the monster from Kusagakure’s Box of Paradise. As the allied force set out, Tanjiro tracked his target north toward Grass Country.

• Ryūsetsuna learned from Kakashi that the Grass Country camp had been attacked by the monster inside the Box of Paradise, and she agreed to help investigate.
• Kakashi gathered Ryūsetsuna, Chiyo, and an elite group of ninjas, warning that the mission might draw an Akatsuki attack.
• Ryūsetsuna and Chiyo collected supplies and joined roughly one thousand allied ninjas heading to reinforce the Grass Country camp.
