Background / History

Emei was founded by Guo Xiang and was once regarded as a first-rate martial force. Over roughly a century, it declined into the second tier, allowing sects that had formerly deferred to it to grow increasingly bold. Its leadership views Gu Shaoan's emergence as a chance to restore Emei's former standing. 13

Fourteen years before the current events, Emei lost more than ten of its strongest elders when they answered the challenge of a demonic martial artist and none returned. The shock caused then-Sect Leader Fengling Shitai to suffer a backlash; before dying, she passed the leadership to Miejue. Miejue subsequently had to preserve internal order while defending Emei's territory from opportunistic outside forces. 37

The sect traditionally consisted entirely of women and had not approved male applicants in previous recruitment periods. Gu Shaoan became an exception after Master Juechen brought him to Mount Emei and Miejue accepted him as her personal disciple. 1 3

Disciples

Emei opens its gates once every ten years to recruit outer disciples. Candidates are judged on aptitude, character, and endurance through entry trials; the top ten across the trials enter the inner sect, while the rest become outer disciples. 1 2
