Background / History

Ding Minjun was one of Abbess Miejue's personal disciples, alongside Zhao Jingxuan, Bei Jinyi, and Zhou Zhiruo. She was present when Gu Shaoan was introduced as Miejue's newly accepted male disciple and witnessed his unusually rapid progress in the Willow Catkin Sword Technique. 4 5

Her resentment toward Gu Shaoan grew as Miejue gave him exceptional instruction, planned to give him Emei's last two Bodhi Exquisite Pills, and later bestowed the Chengxin Sword upon him. Miejue recognized Ding Minjun's jealousy and rebuked her when she questioned Gu Shaoan's potential. 13 22

During the Heimu Mountain bandit-suppression mission, Miejue placed Ding Minjun in charge of protecting Gu Shaoan and Zhou Zhiruo while she confronted the bandit leaders. Ding Minjun initially carried out combat duties effectively, including using tung oil to set the stronghold ablaze and lure out the bandits. 26 28

After Miejue left to confront additional experts, Ding Minjun ordered the bandits' complete extermination, deliberately escalating the battle around Gu Shaoan and Zhou Zhiruo. When the bandits failed to kill them, she launched a concealed stone as a hidden weapon and then moved to attack Gu Shaoan herself. 33 34

Miejue, who had observed Ding Minjun's actions, intervened before the attack could succeed. Ding Minjun admitted that jealousy over Gu Shaoan's talent had led her astray and pleaded for mercy. Miejue killed her for betraying her fellow disciples and violating Emei's rules, then ordered that she receive a proper burial. 35

Personality

Ding Minjun was ambitious, competitive, and intolerant of Gu Shaoan's rapid rise within Emei. Rather than openly challenge Miejue's decisions, she allowed her resentment to surface through cold treatment, sharp reprimands, and objections to the resources granted to him. 13 22

She could be disciplined and capable when carrying out sect assignments, but her envy ultimately overrode her duty as a senior disciple. Her willingness to expose Gu Shaoan and Zhou Zhiruo to danger—and later attack Gu Shaoan directly—revealed a readiness to place personal resentment above Emei's rules and her master's orders. 26 33 35
