Background / History
Miejue inherited leadership of the Emei Sect after her master, Fengling Shitai, died. Fourteen years earlier, more than ten of Emei's strongest elders had perished after answering a challenge from a demonic martial artist; Miejue took command while the weakened sect faced pressure from rival forces and unrest across its territory. She subsequently maintained order within Emei while personally suppressing outside threats. 37
Her lifelong aim is restoring Emei's strength and standing. She views the sect's survival and prosperity as more important than her own feelings or reputation, adopting a severe public posture to deter those who would prey on Emei's weakness. 6 38
During Emei's decennial recruitment, Miejue notices Gu Shaoan among the applicants and reacts with unusual intensity. After examining his roots and meridians, she accepts him as her direct disciple despite Emei's longstanding practice of admitting women. 1 3

After Ding Minjun betrays her fellow disciples, Miejue punishes her despite their long master-disciple relationship. 35 37
Her severity is tempered by responsibility and compassion. She forbids indiscriminate killing, teaches her disciples to distinguish good from evil, and arranges aid for women rescued from the Blackwood Mountain bandits. 25 26 36
Although she normally values gradual cultivation and quality over quantity, Miejue makes exceptions for extraordinary talent. She is notably patient and gentle when instructing Gu Shaoan, invests Emei's last Bodhi Exquisite Pills in him, and places great hopes on him as Emei's future. 10 13 16 40
