Background / History

Ye Hengchuan was a friend Yu Yuanzhen made while traveling in his youth and later chose to follow him. As a member of a direct subordinate family of the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan, he was eventually placed at Blue Lightning City’s Thunder Dragon Hall, where he could spend his retirement in a relatively leisurely role. 18 147

Unlike many clan members, Ye Hengchuan did not judge Yu Xiaogang for his poor innate talent. When Xiaogang sought methods to strengthen his physique for higher-age Soul Rings, Ye immediately recognized his intent and praised his refusal to “sit and wait for death.” 18

He became Xiaogang’s principal assistant during the experiments that revealed Whale Rubber’s body-strengthening effects. After the initial trials reveal the danger of improperly using Hundred Year Whale Rubber, Ye accepts Xiaogang’s insistence on continued testing rather than immediately allowing him to consume higher-age Whale Rubber. He later oversees Wang Dachui’s successful use of the substance and accompanies him to Thunderclap Forest to obtain his First Soul Ring. During the hunt, Ye leaves the decision to attempt an unusually old ring to Wang and witnesses his successful absorption. 22 23 24

When the clan elders question whether Xiaogang truly led the discovery, Xiaogang identifies Ye’s contribution as assistance with experiments, manpower, and resources while affirming that he led the research himself. 27

Recognition of the Thousand Year First Soul Ring
