Xuanpin is the second personality of the Nine Heavens Martial Venerable. She possesses most of the primary personality's memories, though some were deliberately concealed from her. According to Xuanpin, she came into existence after the Nine Heavens Martial Venerable glimpsed the Demon Book. Her existence is treated as an obstacle to the primary personality's Martial Way, and her death may be necessary for the Nine Heavens Martial Venerable to advance further 309 439.

Before meeting Jiang Li, Xuanpin believed that survival might require defecting to one of the Exotic Beast world's emperors or Great Sages. Jiang Li's actions against Exotic Beasts instead gave her hope that Daxia could endure and changed her desire to live 415.

By the time Xuanpin moves about independently, she inhabits a body without the Nine Heavens Martial Venerable's cultivation. Jiang Li comes to regard her as a person living in a borrowed physical shell, though the precise means by which she was separated from the primary personality remain unexplained 367 397 439 480.
