Background / History
Alot survived the destruction of his childhood village by hiding in a dry well. While wandering alone through the forest, he repeatedly survived through chance: finding food, escaping beasts intimidated by an ominous tunnel, and being taken in by a villager whom he later robbed before leaving. Years afterward, he returned to the tunnel as a necromancer and found that it led to an ancient sealed tomb containing a slumbering mid-to-high-tier undead creature. 8
He reached Dya while the Necromancer Academy was recruiting and joined as an apprentice. Unable to afford instruction or complete academy-assigned tasks, he was used as a subject in undead-modification experiments. Only Alot and one other apprentice survived; Alot received gold for surviving, which he spent on meditation, foundational necromancy, and spells. 8
Using the tomb’s dense Death Energy to complete much of the corpse-conversion process, Alot amassed undead by murdering travelers and villagers. He escalated to night raids on small villages, using undead forces to overwhelm frightened residents and Magic Arrows to eliminate any low-ranked resistance. 8 17
During one raid, Alot discovered Rowan, a natural-born Hero. Judging her more valuable alive than as an undead creature he was incapable of properly creating, he sold her to a branch of the Free Professional Merchants Guild for 4,000 gold. He planned to use the money to complete his studies and become a full necromancer. 8 30
On his return to the tomb, Alot discovered its sealed entrance open and his stationed undead destroyed. His precautions could not prevent Rhode from ambushing him from a tree and killing him with a sword strike. 9 Alot’s corpse subsequently rose through the effects of Magic Energy Modification, retaining enough physical power to fight Skeleton Warriors, but was ultimately destroyed by Rhode. 10 12 13
In Rhode’s previous life, Alot was known as a Hero whose earliest records traced back to the Black Crow Necromancy Magic Academy. He later became a powerful Undead Lord during the early expansions, particularly Shadow of Death, before disappearing as the war turned against the necromancers. 13
Appearance
Alot wears the standard black robes of a necromancer, with a wide hood and a hem nearly reaching the ground. He rode on horseback when returning to his tomb with his undead forces. 9 28 33
- Black necromancer robe with a broad hood 9 33
- Uses attire associated with Dya’s necromancers 28 33
- Traveled mounted while commanding an undead escort 9
Personality
Alot considers himself exceptionally lucky, interpreting his repeated survival and discoveries as proof of good fortune. His decisions are consistently opportunistic: he exploits benefactors, converts victims into resources, and sells Rowan rather than attempting a transformation beyond his ability. 8
He is ruthless and ambitious, viewing corpses, undead, and living Heroes primarily in terms of their value to his advancement. Yet he is not careless. Upon seeing the tomb opened, he redistributed his forces around the perimeter and sent Skeleton Warriors inside before investigating personally. 8 9
Abilities & Skills
Necromancy and Undead Command
Alot maintained a force far larger than Rhode expected from an apprentice, including Skeleton Soldiers, Skeleton Warriors, and Walking Corpses. His Hero status likely enabled this unusually extensive control. 9 10
- Used the tomb’s Death Energy to reduce the effort required to create undead. 17
- Converted raid victims into undead after attacking villages. 8
- Deployed his forces by role: Skeleton Soldiers as guards, Skeleton Warriors as investigators and combat units, and slower Walking Corpses as an outer observation line. 9
- His controlled undead lost their Mental Marks and reverted to indiscriminate hostility after his death. 10
Spellcasting
Alot’s Spellbook records his practice notes on meditation and undead control, as well as several Tier 1 spells that Rhode later learned from it. 15
- Magic Arrow — used repeatedly during village raids to severely wound resisting practitioners. 8
- Great Slowing Spell — recorded in his Spellbook. 15
- Body Protection Shield — recorded in his Spellbook. 15
Magic Energy Modification
Alot survived an undead-modification experiment during his apprenticeship. After Rhode killed him, his corpse reanimated through Magic Energy Modification: mana retained in the body fueled extreme physical attacks even after death. 8 10
- Could strike with enough force to deform a Skeleton Warrior’s shield. 10
- Retained mobility and combat ability despite severe bodily damage. 10 11
- The modification did not prevent eventual destruction; Rhode exploited the corpse’s unstable Mana-burst state with a shield attack. 12
