History
Rhode finds the plain-looking ring on the modified Magic Apprentice's corpse after killing it. Recognizing that an apprentice Necromancer should not be able to afford such an item, he concludes that Alot likely acquired the money by selling captive Heroes. Rhode initially cannot activate the ring because he lacks the required 10 Mana, so he wears it on his left index finger to keep his sword hand unobstructed 13.
After meditation raises his Mana to 14, Rhode activates the ring by supplying 10 Mana. The activation establishes a mental connection, allowing him to access its contents with a thought 14.
The ring subsequently becomes Rhode's primary means of carrying weapons, provisions, clothing, lumber, documents, and the Soul Crystal recovered from the Crypt 20 26 28 40.
Storage Function
Activation and Ownership
A Space Ring requires 10 Mana to activate. Once activated, only the individual who injected Mana can open or use it; even if the ring is lost, it remains inaccessible to others until that person dies 13.
Capacity and Retrieval
The ring holds roughly two to three cubic meters of goods. Rhode can retrieve objects rapidly enough for combat uses, including shields, weapons, scrolls, and prepared obstacles 14 16 21.
- Rhode arranges scrolls in separate positions so he can retrieve a needed spell scroll immediately 14.
- He transports large quantities of wood into the Crypt in several trips, then releases the blocks to barricade passages 20 21.
- He can draw a weapon from the ring almost instantly when anticipating an attack 35.
- Armor cannot be equipped as quickly as a weapon can be drawn, limiting the ring's usefulness for sudden defensive preparation 35.
Limitations
- The ring must be activated with at least 10 Mana before its contents can be accessed 13 14.
- Its storage space is finite; Rhode empties it before transporting lumber for his Crypt defenses 20.
- During the battle with the Vampire, it contains no weapons because Rhode had previously removed its contents to move wooden blocks 25.
Initial Contents
When Rhode first opens Alot's Space Ring, it contains the following:
| Item | Details |
|---|---|
| Gold coins | Approximately 2,000 coins |
| Books | Basic Pathfinding and Alot's Spellbook |

| Supplies | Rations and a waterskin |
| Clothing | Several sets of clothes, including Alot's robes |

Notable Uses
- Crypt barricades — Rhode uses the ring to transport and deploy large wooden blocks while preparing traps against the awakening Vampire 20 21.
- Emergency defense — While fleeing the Wolf King, Rhode retrieves and throws a shield from the ring to intercept a Magic Arrow, then takes out a Magic Arrow scroll 16.
- Soul Crystal storage — Rhode places the damaged Soul Crystal retrieved by the Vampire inside the ring before leaving the Crypt 26.
- Disguise — Rhode equips clothing and a black robe from the ring to conceal himself and the Vampire before entering a town 28.
- Travel provisions — He stores preserved food in the ring during the journey with the Silver Seal Merchant Group 40.
- Combat readiness — Rhode keeps a blade within the ring while negotiating with Yusuf and checks its contents before their confrontation at the Watchtower 35 41.
Trivia
- Space Rings are described as extremely expensive—well beyond an apprentice Necromancer's normal means 13.
- A separate Space Ring belonging to the Silver Seal Merchant Group is later stolen by the blue-robed Mage after Yusuf's death; the Mage does not activate it, fearing the Mana expenditure and possible danger 44 46.
