Power Progression
| Stage / Realm / Level | Chapter | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Skeleton Soldier → Skeleton Warrior | 4 | Skeleton Soldiers may advance by absorbing Death Energy, including Death Energy released through killing living creatures. Powerful Necromancers can directly grant this energy, while powerful individuals may become Skeleton Warriors upon death because of residual energy in their bodies. |
Background
Skeleton Warriors are relatively strong Tier 1 undead. Compared with Skeleton Soldiers, they possess greater Strength and Speed, improved combat capability, and commonly serve as armed guards or front-line units. Their Health is stated to remain unchanged from that of Skeleton Soldiers despite their physical improvements. 4
They can arise naturally when Skeleton Soldiers absorb enough Death Energy. Necromancers can also forcibly promote them by supplying Death Energy, while the corpses of powerful Practitioners may transform directly due to residual power within their bodies. 4
After their controller dies, controlled Skeleton Warriors revert to their undead instinct to destroy living beings unless another Necromancer takes command. 10 15
Appearance
Skeleton Warriors are armed skeletal undead distinguished from Skeleton Soldiers by heavier equipment and the Soul Fire burning in their eye sockets. 4 16
- Wield an Iron Sword and a one-handed Round Shield. 4 6
- Wear Iron Armor, which gives them substantial protection but is too cumbersome for Rhode to use effectively. 4 6
- Their Soul Fire is visible within their eye sockets. 16
- A recovered Skeleton Warrior Iron Sword has Damage +7 and Durability 9/15. 6
Abilities & Skills
Tier 1 Physical Superiority
Skeleton Warriors rank among the stronger Tier 1 creatures. Their Strength and Speed substantially exceed those of Skeleton Soldiers and were far above Rhode's early attributes. 4 16
- Can overwhelm weaker opponents with direct sword strikes and shield blows. 5
- Their superior attributes allow them to threaten opponents even when their combat technique is limited. 4 5
- Against wolves, their bone bodies are difficult to restrain because bites cannot easily penetrate their leg bones. 16
Sword and Shield Combat
A Skeleton Warrior fights with a sword-and-shield combination, relying primarily on residual combat instincts rather than refined skill. 4 5
- The shield protects its chest and cervical area, making direct counterattacks difficult. 5
- Its shield bash can send a weaker opponent flying and inflict serious internal injury. 5
- Once deprived of its shield, it becomes markedly easier to decapitate. 5
- Its instinctive fighting style can leave exploitable openings, especially after committing to a full-force attack. 5
Undead Resilience and Vulnerabilities
Skeleton Warriors do not fear pain or ordinary injury and can continue fighting after damage that would stop a living combatant. 17
- Their skull, which contains the Soul Fire, is their decisive vital point. 17
- Decapitation is an effective method of destroying one. 5
- Damage to the cervical vertebrae or lower spine can disable or destroy the unit by severing its connection to the lower body. 16 17
- Their skeletal structure lets them delay wolf packs in narrow passages, where only a few wolves can attack at once. 17
Mental Mark Control
Unclaimed low-tier Skeleton Warriors can be controlled through the Necromancy skill Mental Mark. 15 16
- Rhode successfully placed a Mental Mark on a Tier 1 Skeleton Warrior. 16
- Maintaining control reduced Rhode's Spirit attribute by 0.3. 16
- Under Rhode's direction, a controlled Skeleton Warrior used its shield defensively and attacked wolves only when they exposed themselves. 17
- Mental Mark gives a controller command over the unit, but does not grant the rapid evasive reactions of direct personal control. 16 17
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Iron Sword — Standard primary weapon; one recovered sword had Damage +7. 6
- One-handed Round Shield — Used to guard the torso and cervical area and to perform shield bashes. 5 6
- Iron Armor — Heavy protective armor worn by encountered Skeleton Warriors. 4 6
Relationships
- Rhode — Initially fought Skeleton Warriors as hostile crypt guards, defeating one through disarmament and decapitation. He later controlled other unclaimed Skeleton Warriors with Mental Mark. 4 5 16
- Alot — The Necromancer Apprentice fielded four fully armed Skeleton Warriors and sent two into the crypt to investigate after suspecting danger. 9
- Wolf King and Wolf Pack — Controlled Skeleton Warriors were used to delay the wolves in the crypt; the Wolf King's Magic Arrow disabled one by striking its spine. 16 17
- Modified Magic Apprentice — Two Skeleton Warriors fought Alot's reanimated, magically modified corpse after Alot's death, but were heavily damaged by its overwhelming physical strength. 10 11
Story Role / Major Arcs
Crypt Guard Encounter
Rhode first encountered a Skeleton Warrior in a grand hall, accompanied by four Skeleton Soldiers. Recognizing that its attributes were too high for a direct fight, he upgraded himself, killed the Soldiers first, then exploited an opening to sever the Warrior's sword arm. After surviving a shield bash, he decapitated it once its shield had been discarded. 4 5
Alot's Undead Force
Four Skeleton Warriors accompanied Alot's force outside the crypt. Following Alot's death, two engaged his reanimated corpse while the remaining undead became uncontrolled and attacked living targets indiscriminately. 9 10
Defense Against the Wolf Pack
After learning Mental Mark, Rhode took control of Skeleton Warriors left in the crypt and used them as a defensive line against the Wolf King and its pack. A controlled Warrior initially stalled the wolves effectively, but one was struck in the cervical vertebrae by a Magic Arrow and another was immobilized when the Wolf King shattered its lower spine. 15 16 17
